I'm into analog recording right now, but I've been reading up on digital lately. I only have one question, and it's a stupid one. What is a soundcard?
If you include an example and or link, I will give you a hug...

A piece of hardware for a computer that is used for audio going in and out of the computer. They can be internal or external.

So how are you supposed to plug musical stuff into that?

there's a number of ways, but the short anser is "with adapters." Additionally, they make external soundcards and audio interfaces that cost a little more, but are designed for recording. If all you want is two channels, you might not even be facing a price increase at all, to be honest.

If you are just looking for stereo, you could go with the M-Audio MobilePre (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/701368/) or the PreSonus FireBox (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/184133/).

I figured I might as well bump this.
So I'm looking around for a PCI soundcard for recording... all I know is that anything is better than the $15 one I currently have. I'm pretty good with computer hardware but I suck at recording, so therefore I don't know what's good or bad in a soundcard. Any of the ones on musiciansfriend good?

How much are you looking at spending?

I'd probably prefer under $150, $200 at most. The cheaper the better though. I want the quality to be as good as possible, so if I get one that's higher than 92khz, that's what's most important, right? Or not?
Plus I see internal and external ones... I'm not sure which of those is better. I have a USB port in my computer, but I'm not sure if there's a sound difference between the internal and external cards. Plus I have a fairly old PC (P3 with 320mb of RAM), don't know if there's any requirements for these cards..
