Ok, so we had Grimple with a poppier skate-thrash sound, then From Ashes Rise with their melodic hardcore sound, then Wolfbrigade with their crust/D-beat style. Now, it's Guyana Punch Line, with, uh, god knows what to call them.
Bio:
Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Guyana Punch Line plays hardcore/thrash similar to IN/Humanity. They even have the twenty-seconds songs of complete, confusing randomness, with water dropping in the background under vocals playing in reverse. However, the real songs that they play are amazing. It can go from pure, hate-filled thrash, to insane, incredibly creative hardcore breakdowns. When I say hardcore breakdowns, these are no hardcore breakdowns you've ever heard. I use the term "hardcore breakdown" simply because I have no other word for it.
Another noteable about GPL is their support and popular-ization of the "Smashism", an almost non-sensical political thought process. Underneath the designed-confusion of any Smashism writing is the throught that any out-of-control technilogical advance can be brought down by the force of numbers. Here a snippit from the GNL website:
Guyana Punch Line is a 4 piece antimusical terrorunit from Columbia, South Carolina. Practitioners of the philosophy of "smashism", the group seeks to unload its IRRITAINMENT cargo on the unwilling and unsuspecting. Smashism characterizes itself as an antidogmatic dogma, an anti-systemic system, an anti-religious religion, an idea devoid of any idea. Smashism turns art into garbage and vice-vera. Smashism recognizes the power-weilders and it lies to them. Smashism will liberate you from work. Smashism seeks to ignore food as sustinance, but embraces it as a weapon.
