Thats because everyones leeching of it....
I just completed the level, it was cool. I couldn't get any of the commentary though. I was running it at medium graphics with no trouble atall. Heres a cool little shot i took towards the end :

The old fisherman guy is cool to talk to.
My advice, if you don't have the hardware to fully experiance HDR, its probably not worth it.

Oh man, I just played it and it ran great. 1024 x 768 with everything on Maximum. The level itself was a bit meh though, gameplay wise.

Yeah, I just finished it. I wish it was longer, but the graphics were amazing. A very nice demo. My computer ran it fine...not great, but fine.
Everything on medium, HDR on full
Pentium 4 2.40 GHz
512 Ram
Ati Radeon 9550
Not too shabby for my setup...

All settings up, 1024x768 res. I managed to fix it. Played through twice, second time doing the commentary.
The HL2: Lost Coast Screenshots album I made. Took 35, these are the 15 that made the cut. I'll post the actual screens in the Image thread.

That was awesome. Just played through it, amazing graphics. I liked the chapel and the stainglass windows the best, that was incredible.
I ran it with everything on high, with AA on 4X. Specs:
2.4 GHz Pentium 4
1.5 GB RAM
Nvidia 6800 GT 256MB
Ran pretty smoothly, looked great.

Played it through...It's pretty cool what they can do with this HDR thing, like simulate your iris adjusting to different levels of light, refraction through windows and light diffusion and all that...

I was underimpressed. I thought the lighting was going to be more dramtic than that. It looked nicer, but I dont think it was quite a big of a jump as they claimed it to be. The actual level wasnt all that fun, but i guess thats whyt hey cut it from the origional.

Just got done playing it, 'twas good fun if short. My computer is short of the recommended specs but it ran smoothly albeit with some bizzare graphical errors.

Do you get to kill ****?
Cause if you don't, I'm not going to bother.
I don't give a crap about shiney graphics.

Hahaha you kill some Combine and a helicopter, and a few headcrabs. Don't play it if you're looking for gameplay/killing.

The lighting effects in Lost Coast looks impressive. I dont want it though. I prefer sitting in a dark corner crying.

this was never meant as a proper level or mini expansion, hence why it adds nothing at all to the story. it's just a tech demo to show off the HDR lighting. i played up to the church anyway, and then once i killed the headcrabs, my pc froze and i haven't tried it again since. but i've played dod source with HDR a few times, so the lighting wasn't anything new for me. it does make you wonder though how far they can take simple 3d games, now that they even replicate your own eyes. accurate physics, reflection/refraction effects, normal/specular mapping, and all done in real time. it doesn't seem like there's much more for them to do in games anymore (besides more detailed graphics, obviously).

Yeah, but the HL2 demo was essentially meant to show off the gravity gun. That doesn't mean that level wasn't really fun to play.
Wooo double negative.
Anyway, the helicopters are fun as hell to fight, so I might grab this when I finish F.E.A.R.
