View Full Version : PPOTM (October) Nominations Thread

Ok, this is how I run things. Follow the rules, and have fun. Go.
Rules:
1. Number of nominations does not matter (everyone advances), but, each nomination requires a short paragraph to be valid. If you can't back up your choice with 3-4 short sentences, you should reconsider how much you think they deserve this award. Don't nominate yourself.
2. I'm closing this Sunday/Monday because I'll be gone most of the weekend. Don't whine, just nominate :p I'll be editing the first post with accepted nominations, but if you want to write a blurb for someone already nominated, go for it. This is all about user appreciation.
3. This thread is for nominations or questions only please.
4. I can't win. :(
5. This month we're gonna try out a noob PPOTM too as per request, so if you can think of a noob who has done something good, nominate em and I'll put that up under a separate category.
Accepted PPOTM nominees:
Adam (Excursions)
Spence (Allofmeoliveme) isn't accepted because he's uber fag ;)
Albert_bass
Cobert
Brian (Mute Print)
Brandon (Fire Whispers)
Jamie (J-Cool)
Kif
Rancid Dan
Butler
Chumpradio
Tjebby
Rissa (because I totally am her bitch :-\)
Accepted NPPOTM nominees:
REAL_FOB/TBS/BN_FAN
Mr. Clean
Glitter&Trauma
For the Noob category I'll nominate: Real FOB [insert rest of name]. He may have an annoying name but he's all in all a fairly good new user. He's dedicated to his music and he tries to get other people into bands they may not know. I feel he contributed to the forum well and I wouldn't mind at all if he posted more as he hasn't posted much lately.
For the normal category I'll nominate: Spence. He has always contributed well to the forum but now with his modding abilities he helps keep pop-punk clear of spam and he's making people be better users overall.
He also lets me download lots of music from him :p.

I nominate Adam, becuase although he doesn't post much, when he does, he makes excellent contributions. His confessions thread added a spark to the forum, and his knowledge of music is very broad. He has also helped me get in to a few cool bands, including the Bleeders.
I refuse to nominate a noob because, honestly, I can't say there is a noob in pop-punk that I feel is a respectable poster, let alne one who has made a significant contribution. Most seem to be very uneducated about styles of music/bands, and a lot of them are poor posters in general. There also aren't very many noobs in pop-punk it seems.

OK, if there's a n00b who is a decent poster at the moment, they haven't done enough to catch my attention in any way. Although, I have been absent for a week, so my views should really count for a quarter less than everyone else.
As for a general PPOTM... I really don't know. Nobody has really stood out for me this month. Let me go back and poke through some recent posts and try and come up with someone.
Edit: I nominate Albert_Bass. His posts are generally interesting and well-informed, and let us not forget, he introduced me to the joys of Bigwig. Yeah.

I'd like to nominate Cobert. Since he's been back he's been sparking up some good conversation, especially in the Co&Ca thread. He's a generally helpful poster and he has a lot of knowledge of pop punk.
As for a n00b, I can't really think of any.

I nominate Mute Print(Brian) and Fire Whispers(Brandon). Both are really cool guys. They are both good posters. They don't just post in the DT either.
Brian's given me some A3 through AIM even though I use 56k also.

Pazz_10 as noob of the month, for me. She's been nice and active this month, if I recall.
Real_Fan, as far as I can remember has only posted in like two threads this month (Scene and something else).
Brian is the best, but I'm sure he's won it already.
If he has, I nominate Jom, just for ****s and giggles.

If I can't nominate Pazz, than I'll skip out on that section. Real_Fan seems like a cool guy, but he needs to post more.

(Define noob.)
A newbie is a newcomer to a particular field, the term being commonly used on the Internet, where it might refer to new, inexperienced, or ignorant users of a game, a newsgroup, the Internet itself, or an operating system.
Variant spellings, such as newb, noob or n00b (spelled with zeros replacing the "o"s), are common in Internet use.
Matt has posted quite a bit in the past. Especially in the blink thread and what not.

I avoid the blink thread, so I wouldn't know.
I meant "Define how long it takes for someone not to be a noob."
But oh well, Vince told me whats up.

I nominateJamie (J-Cool)
A good, friendly user who has just as much a right to be nominated as the rest of the users on the list. Take spart in forum activities and doesn't spam at all.
Matt should still be able to be nominated for noob. Almost the whole time he was here before the past month or two he only posted in a Blink thread and very rarely anywhere else. He just recently started posting a bit more outside of it and I see no harm in putting him in anyways. Plus it makes for a bit of competition.
Angry Balled Fists!

No, n00b is for people who joined this month traditionally.
TBS fan guy didn't even join this month.
I know he didn't, that's why I figured it'd be better if it was just noob in general. Pop-punk rarely gets any real noobs. And when we do they're usually avid Blink fans who can't type. If not though than whatever. I guess my idea isn't really going to work.
Angry Balled Fists!
10-28-2005, 07:00 AM
I don't think we should really have a noob of the moneth, but whatever.
Meh.. I thought it would encourage newer people to stick around. Which would help the forum out a bit seeing as it's slightly lacking in users. It won't really work if there are no noobs though.
Angry Balled Fists!
10-28-2005, 07:07 AM
Yeah, but PPNOTM is for people who have joined in the month of which the competition is being held for (October).
All I'm saying is that it can be adjusted to fit the forum. It doesn't have to be any way. If people agree that it should be changed then it can be. I guess I should have discussed it a bit more with Vince before he made it. Oh well.
Angry Balled Fists!

Could Tjebby and Depthsofdreams etc be classed as a noob or what?

Noob PPOTM? Well.....I really don't know most noobs kinda get on my nerves. I guess I could try to find someone later or something.
As far as PPOTM goes I really don't know right now i'm kind of torn between three people Rancid Dan, Puma, or Kif. This is really hard all good posters but I think I'm going to go with Kif.
Kif is a really friendly guy. His posts are always infomative and most of the time on subject. He's not a frequent spammer. Actually I don't remember seeing any spam by him. And I can't forget if it wasn't for kif I wouldn't have this kick arse avatar!

Ok, but how do you calss a noob, what join date ?

Not necissarily join date. Like, people that haven't been around long in pop-punk. Or people that just recently started posting actively. Like I didn't really start posting until June of this year, yet my Join Date is August 04. That's kind of misleading because I only had about 65 posts for almost a year.
Angry Balled Fists!
10-28-2005, 10:38 AM
Well, i think it should be august 05 then, becuse you need to draw a line tbh.
Pazz_10 as noob of the month, for me. She's been nice and active this month, if I recall.
Well, I thank you for compliment about being nice and active. I have been here for a little while and like Justin said, I'm a guy and my name is Matt.
Yeah, but that basically makes the noob category pointless. We may as well take it out then. I didn't realize it would cause so many issues when I started it.

I've always had a 2 month period in the competitions since I introduced that category. Other than that *shrug* you guys decide what you want to do about it. I'll read through all that talk and dig out the noms in a bit.
Angry Balled Fists!
10-28-2005, 12:28 PM
Yeah, 2 months is ok.
i'm gonna go with Rancid Dan
reason: he makes some new threads (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405600) and is a good helpful user that never spams/trolls from what i have seen.

I nominate Butler (Untitled) for being a strong member throughout the month, being a consistently nice person and a good poster in the Alkaline Trio and Green Day threads.
I nominate chumpradio for being a good poster. He also gave many people Alkaline Trio rarities in the Alkaline Trio thread. He also said he would get a Blink 182 rarities YSI out sometime, he hasn't yet, but he will eventually.

Pazz_10 as noob of the month, for me. She's been nice and active this month, if I recall.
 Thats the funniest post I've seen in a while in pop-punk.
Anyways..I really want to nominate someone, but to be honest I rarely ever spend time in this forum. I post in the Blink thread mainly then occasionaly elsewhere. I think I'm going to try and post a bit more around here, just so all these new people get to know who I am and so I know who they are.
I can nominate however a n00b...as lately there has been tons of new Blink n00bs.
I'll Nominate Mr.Clean..he's been a good poster since he's joined up (from what I've seen). He knows what he's talking about usually and doesn't just go around saying all this false information giving people the wrong information.

I was just messing around when I said that. :p
But I've had a couple encounters with him, and he's been a complete prick towards me, all because I tried to educate him on the topic of emo. :(
From now on I'm letting people keep their misconceptions of genres and laugh when they use genres entirely wrong.

Oh..well I just felt I needed to nominate someone..and from what I've seen from him in the Blink thread he's been a decent noob. You've got to remember, he still actually is a noob.
I've spent so much time away from this forum..the past 2-3 months all I post in is the Blink thread and occasionally the Greenday thread.

Alrhough I said I wasn't going to nominate a noob, I decided there is one who hasn't been a complete idiot. Glitter&Trauma. Although she hasn't posted much, she seems to be a quality poster, and is one of the better noobs I've seen since joining. Usually noobs post like idiots for the first few weeks, until they get a feel for the forum, but she has been a high-quality poster from her first post.

I'm not taking Seth because I don't even think he has been on mx this month, certainly not in Pop-Punk.
