Ok, I know people tend to think Tragedy is better. But I don't care, From Ashes Rise still rules.

Bio:

From Ashes Rise is made up of members of Tragedy and World Burns To Death. Recent rumor has it that FAR has broken up. Please don't let it be so.

Formed in Nashville in the mid-'90s, From Ashes Rise helped define the gloom-heavy thrash sound attributed to groups like His Hero is Gone, Systral and Tragedy. Along with Tragedy, the group then packed up the noise and relocated it in Portland where the sound was allowed to fester under the grey, Pacific Northwestern clime. Representative of a staunchly underground breed of aggressive, basement punk, many heads devoted strictly to aesthetic were shocked at the band's hitching with Jade Tree. Drawing on obscure thrash bands from Scandinavia and Japan, as well as Discharge's venerated "D-beat," From Ashes Rise helps carry the aggro torch for Jade Tree.

My Opinion:

One of the best melodic hardcore bands in existence. Not only do they have an excellent vocalist (both of the two they've had), but they use their dual-guitars expertly, and have an amazingly creative drummer.

P.S: Expect to see more of these in-depth band threads from me. I enjoy making them, simply because I enjoy introducing people to new music and being an actually contributive member.

I only saw em once and it was before I got into em, so that sucks.

I love them. But yeah, I heard they broke up during that last tour.

Reaction is a great song. I tried getting the split with the Victims but it was sold out.

Incredible band, i just can't get enough of FAR and other Tragedy style bands (Schifosi, Daymare, Wolfbrigade etc..). They better not have split up, they need to tour England!

God damn it, it's true. From the FAR myspace:

"Its true we broke up. Its best to directly write each band member for questions or keeping in touch. It was a great ride for many years but as all things pass so do punk bands. So to all of you ...know that the money you spent , the time ,and effort on this band was the drive and will for us to continue for many years and for that we give thanks. From Ashes Rise played all over and met some of the worlds best people and did some crazy *** **** along the way. You never realize that when your doing it that it will ever end. But, we all wanted a change and are still doing bands and playing punk rock. So we all really don't check the myspace thing all that much so I apollogize...I will try to be more on top of that and keep up with friend requests cause as long as people listen to our records keep memories and want or were part of our long walk on a short pier then so be it. So now go start your own band!

With Love for Everyone that Thought our Little Band Made a Difference In Some Way,
JOhn Wilkerson."

Out of all the bands they made (From Ashes Rise, Tragedy, Deathreat, His Hero is Gone, etc), I liked FAR far more than the rest. Too bad I never got to see them live. Sucks that they're gone.

Oh, and who from WB2D played for FAR?

I'm not too sure; WB2D mentioned it themselves when I saw them live. But, it was a vague remark, something alone the lines of, "I'm glad we could tour now that From Ashes Rise isn't touring and we can have all of our members."

And, yes, FAR was the best, but Tragedy is a close second. Both of them blow away His Hero Is Gone, but HHIG is still pretty damn good.

That's odd, as I'm good friends with most of them, except for the bassist. From what I recall the bands don't share members. Unless one of the WB2D guys was filling in for someone from FAR for the tour. hmmm.

Tragedy was dissapointing when I saw them live back in June. Great band on record, but their live show is meh. I would say HHIG surpass them.

So, for me, it goes

From Ashes Rise>His Hero is Gone>Tragedy>Deathreat

But that's just me.
