I have a question about drum covering. I've heard from a couple of sources that if you leave a set of drums out in your car or in your garage where they would be subject to extreme temperatures, the covering on your drums will crack or even peel off. Is this true for all drums or just some? Does this apply to leaving them in your car more as opposed to storing them in a garage? I would have my drums in drum bags, so they wouldn't be just open to the elements such as sunlight and that type of thing. I would probably not store them in my car outside, they would most likely be kept stored in my garage, but my garage is not heated in cold weather or cooled in hot. Thanks for any advise.

yes its true sadly, any temp that you'd consider hot or cold for yourself is bad for your drums. store them in a ventilated, cool room and they'll last forever, in a garage, a year or two before you'll notice stuff going on. unft. im speaking from experience.

Definitely be careful. A few years back, a friend of mine left his new Premier kit in the car overnight after a gig, the next day, there were cracks all over the wrap on his bass drum and a few chunks here and there fell off.

I remember a story that my drum teacher told me. He plays DW kits (he has 3, and his new one is really nice, it is the sliver broken glass one). And well, one nite he left his all day in his car, when it was really hot, and when he went to move it, the wrap had all bubbled. Not nite at all.

Well as long as it isnt kept somewhere where there is extrame heat/cold, then ther is no problem.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I have three sets. One is kept in a trailor inside a garage in drum bags, and the other two are in the basement of my house. (Our basement is a finished basement so I'm down here all the time.) One of my sets is being used in my recording studio, so it'll always be down here, but I'm concerned about the one that is kept in the trailor in the garage. Also, my other set that I mentioned that is in my basement kind of takes up some room down here so that is why I wondered if it would be wise to store it in the garage as well when I'm not using it. As I also said, they are always kept in drum bags. I would like to point out that I know a lot of drummers, and I don't know of one to whom this has happened. Thanks.
