I need to mic my band with *reasonable* sound quality...but I don't want to spend a lot of money. Right now my band records with one cheap mic. We were planning to record with my PC's sound card (all drum tracks routed to either one or two tracks) & getting a mixer & some drum mics...but that's expensive for our purposes. I was thinking about buying a set of drum mics, but after everything (cables, stands, etc.) the total came out pretty high. I was thinking about using one mic for my whole band, what kind of mic should I buy to get "good" quality with a small amount of money? I'm thinking about getting one good mic, then routing it to my PC with an transedental (sp?) adapter.

thanks

You don't mention your budget, but I will tell you I searched for a inexpensive one last year, and thought I would buy a shure when I left the house.
I settled on an Audio Technica ATM41HE, cuz its the most dynamic for the price ($180 canadian), and kicked the SM58's *** for $10 difference.

well...

theres no point micing with one mic, becuase you dont have much control over the levels etc..

I would suggest this...

buy a mixer with 4 xlr inputs... (4 piece band, 5 xlrs if you got 5 people)

Everyone buys one mic each (dynamics) they dont have to be great.. 40 buckz of sumtin....

you just mic each instrument...

you might need a few mic stands....
