Sorry to ask a question that seems really irrelevant to anyone on this site,
But i have no idea how to read the music the site gives for a bass guitar, im a complete beginner and wish to learn, for example can anyone elaberate on how im supposed to play the note below, or could somone take another note from a song and show me how to play it. This is so i can read the music i have printed off and play it with some practise, so im not just randomly strumming around.

A------0--------------0------|
E---0---------------------0--|
X---1--a--2--a--3--a--4--a--|
X---D--U--D--U--D--U--D--U-|
the easiest way is to break it down
X---D--U--D--U--D--U--D--U-|
in this line the D stands for a down stroke with a pick
and the U stands for an up stroke with a pick
so you shouldbe picking with alternating pickin i.e. down-up-down-up
X---1--a--2--a--3--a--4--a--|
in this line they are telling you how to count the rythm
it is telling you to play in eigth notes if you were playing in 4/4 time
G------------0--0------------|
D---------0--------0---------|
A------0--------------0------|
E---0---------------------0--|
this section is telling you what note to play and on which string to play it
E- top bass string on a 4 string bass
A- next string down on a four string
D- string under the A string
G- bottom and thinnest string on the bass
the numbers are telling you which frett to play at in this case they are all open so you play the
open E string then
open A string then
open D string then
open G string then
open G string then
open D string then
open A string then
open E string then

Can't be that, in 4/4 time beats one and three are the down beats. Although I suppose you could see it as 8th notes are d/u beats. I'm guessing that it's refering to either picking motion or something. However.... the more I think about it... those motions wouldn't work with that...

I believe he meant down and up strokes.
