Depends. If you have the money and want to use double bass to get different sounds and you have the room go with 2 bass drums. If you just want to be able to get the most out of your current kick without spending a lot of money/using a lot of space, go with a double kick. I've been thinking about getting another bass drum and converting my double pedal into 2 pedals, but I don't know if it would be worth it. Nothing wrong with double pedals. They're probably the most useful and worthwhile pieces of hardware ever created.

two bass drums sound different though. when playing double bass, the note it cut short by the following note, however with two bass drums the notes have a longer value as your alternating [generally speaking].

Yea thats the one thing I like about 2 drums, you can tune them different (they'll sound different anyway) and you get lots of great character and tone with patterns. Honestly though in todays playing I would always suggest a DBpedal unless your really after that tone. The Dbpedal is so easy and simple to set-up.

yeah I'm buying my own set and it's a Tama Swingstar, from musiciansfriend.com, they had either a 7 or 8 piece double bass set or a 5 piece single bass, the cost would end up being pretty close to get a decent pedal or another drum, wanted to know if there was any real difference, thanks aaron i never really thought about that
EDIT- well I'm trying to go for the sound Kevin Talley has(from Chimaira, check them out here http://roadrunnerrecords.com/artists/Chimaira/music.aspx, listen to 'Pure Hatred', it has lots of double bass and so does 'Dead Inside') here is a good picture of his setup[URL="http://roadrunnerrecords.com/artists/Chimaira/showphoto.aspx?photoID=11216"] I know he has 2 drums but I'm 13 so money is a factor.
Thanks
id go with the pedal. dw7000

well Azn do you have a suggestion as to what kit i should go with? I've looked at Pearl, Pulse, Mapex, Tama, and Sonar(is it Sonor? I forgot). I'm sort of biased towards Tama because I checked out a Swingstar and a Pearl Forum at Guitar center and I like the Tama better. Oh yea /change subject I play pretty much all kinds of rock type music (alternative, grunge, punk, metal etc..)

At 13 you're better off with a DB pedal. And you're also too young to know what punk is

I've been thinking about getting another bass drum and converting my double pedal into 2 pedals, but I don't know if it would be worth it.
Actually, that's exactly what I did. And I've not regret it one bit. "Real" double bass (two kickdrums) feels so much better than a double pedal on one drum, that's my opinion. The slave pedal just doesn't feel right on a double pedal, it has this lag thing and isn't quite as responsive. The feel of two single pedal is IMO much better. But of course it's all about user preference...
There are of course many positive sides of a double pedal setup; easier to set up with the hi-hat close, easier transportation of the kit, perhaps a tad cheaper, and of course not having to go trough the trouble with tuning two drums to sound the same.
But in terms of pure playing, control and feel I'd say two kickdrums will allways be superior to a double pedal. So if you can live with these minor impracticalities (is that a word?) of two kickdrums I'd say GO FOR IT! :thumb:

I like dbl pedal better more room and looks cleaner and keeps things tighter together.

I like the smaller and tighter feel that the double pedal gives me. Plus, I used to fiddle around with my friend's double bass set-up, and it felt so good that I was hesitating getting a double pedal. But, I have adapted to it really well, and I now prefer the double pedal.

Just go for the Pearl Power Shifter Eliminator 2002.... it owns DW in every single way possible....

Bull**** it does. It's all about the way it feels to each individual. Personally I don't like Eliminators, and don't trust their plastic cams. I prefer a 5000 over anything.

and don't trust their plastic cams.
Neither do I, plastic + lots of moving = crap.

I like the feel of two bass drums, and of course the appearence.
Just, for gigging or moving your kit at all two bass drums just isn't really practical compared to a double pedal.

sounds like most of u guys think i should go with 2 bass drums, but a double pedal is alot more convenient(spelling?) i'll have to go to guitar center and mess around with both for my final thought on it, thanks for the advice though.

DW + bearings that eat themselves out = CRAP....
Oh and by the way the plastic cams don't really break, 2nd they don't really move and 3rd... the cams cost a meir 5 dollars.... so don't complain

hey money is money. unless u wanna pay the gas to drive us to the store to get more cams :D
gotta love the drumming innovations that plastic has brought us. just look at the dualist pedals, first act kits, and hydraulic drum heads.

The person who told you that = fullashit
I used to have the 1st generation DW 7000 pedals, I had em for over 9 years and played them every single day... They never gave me one problem.
