Gotta try em out after all the buzz. I ordered the "Turkish hammered package" which is a 18" China and a 10" splash. I additionally ordered a 20" China, a 8" Splash, and a 12" splash. Should be in a few days, I'll post up some pics when they arrive....

One thing you're going to have to comt to terms with about wuhans, they're not perfect aesthetically. I;ve heard accounts of one half a of a china being significantly heavier than the other side, and quite a bit thicker.

yeah my 'han 12" splash has some really hammered spots, so much so you can feel it on the otherside when you run your finger over it, thats what makes them great, they're all individual

I do like my wuhans, but I'll have to agree here.
My 20" wuhan ride is significantly heavier on one side than another, and it will rotate around so the heavy side is lower. Still sounds the same on each side, but it always has the logo facing away from me.

Ok, playing them right now. My first impression is WOW. They kinda kick the crap out of the Zildjian chinas I have. They are similiar to the Sabian Chinas and the Paiste Chinas kick the living crap out of the Wuhans.
DO NOT underrate these Wuhans. My only concern now is their durablility. If they last a year its worth it. All of these splash's and Chinas for a little over 100 bucks is a deal.
And for the record, I have probably 20 splashes and 20 chinas so I feel I can give an accurate comparison.
The top of the line Chinas are the Paiste 20" Signature thin, the 20" Paiste Sound Formula special run from the early 1990's, and the Novo Chinas.

When I bought my last kit, and had the ability to order as many cymbals as I wanted from Zildjian to buy I ordered a BUNCH of Zildjian rides. At least 2 of the rides had problems with weighting.
I did a thread on the inconsistency of Zildjians and the Sabians I was trying out. Its our there somewhere. Sabian seemed to have their a little more together, Zildjian was all over the place and Paiste was the best.
It all comes down to the actual way the cymbals are created. Zildjian and Sabian make a cymbal and then check the weight and sound charecteristics and say, thats gonna be a medium crash, or that could be a heavy ride. Now Im sure they create some individual lines like Paiste does, I don't know what ones.
Paiste sets out to make a cymbal when they create it. If they want to make a 18" Signature Power crash, thats what they make from the start. Hence Paistes quality and reliability of sound.

I wonder what making hats out of 2 wuhan crashes would sound like I made a recording using two 17 inch crashes as hats. Not that great for main hats, But for a wierd effect it is pretty neat.

These Wuhans are so Impressive that I am actually considering ordering a 22 and another 20 and replacing them on one of my show kits. They would replace a 22" Zildjian Oriental China and a 20" Sabian HHX China.
The splashes are incredible. The 10" Turkish hammered sounds like your breaking a piece of crystal every time you play it. It reminds me of a 8" Paiste Sound Formula I have.
Anyone try out any of the BIG Wuhan Gongs? I may skip the Paiste Symphonic and look at a Wuhan

We have a Wuhan gong at my school. In all honesty, I'm not at all impressed by it. The thing is so damn thick, you just cant get a real full, solid chinese gong sound out of it. I think its 20 or 30".
I'll admit though, the 27" Chinese wuhan sells looks mighty appealing. Now thats a cymbal that can tear a song in half.

10-27-2005, 07:23 AM
durability: i've had the 12" splash for 20 months now and no problems
gongs: the wind gong's pretty good, better than zildjian IMO, on par with paiste
SonorKen
10-27-2005, 10:32 PM
Ok, I have found a problem with the Wuhans. They are too thin when playing live when compared to the Paistes. The guitarists and bassist in my band both said they could "tell" it was a China cymbal but it wasnt a monster China PAAHHHHHHH like the Paiste's.
I am going to do a comparison of the Wuhan vs the Sabian HHX at the next practice. Im setting them up really close to each other and will do double china hits when comparing them to the other cymbals. Tonight I compared the 20" Wuhan China with the 20" Paiste Signature thin and there was no comparison, the same went for the 16" Paiste vs the 18" Wuhan.
Now, playing live and micced this will be no big deal, but, this is the first negative thing I have found on them. I actually took some Groove Juice and tried to clean the labels off. So many people here locally expect to see me playing Sonor drums and Paiste cymbals that I wanna try to slip a few Wuhans in on them. Id love to be able to paint Paiste on them to see if it changed people's opinion of them in the live setting.

Man I've had a 10" splash for like.. 2 or so years now, used at home heaps, used out at church heaps (yeah, whatever, you might think that you don't play hard at church but you'd be very surprised.) and used at school gigs and such.

Well thats generally true, but I've been told that sometimes, they make defective cymbals that break very fast. Thats why you check em out at the store, usually the ones that are defective also sound terrible.

Ya wuhans kick, and the people who say they are ****y are full of it themselves, ive had mine for almost 8 months, i play pretty hard, and have never had a single problem with them, they are great cymbals for the price, now i just have to decide if i want to get some more wuhans or go to AAX or HHX, if i get more wuhans im gonna get some S series to mix in with my trads, also get some big crashes.!!! Ya for the Wuhan Club, i think we have a pretty big one here!!
Does wuhan also do endorsements? :p
