hahaha, I remeber about a eyar ago or so, metal Sludge did an interview with this singer who'd been like a gun for hire for various rock and metal acts in the past twenty years or so. Well ,anyway, they asked him what the worst thing he's ever had to sing was, and his pick was Yngwie's "I Am A Viking"

Now, to fully grasp what this truly means, here's the lyrics:

I am a Viking in going out to war
And I've got death upon my mind
As I was leavin' oh yesterday
I've got no fear in my heart

[Chorus]
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
Just want to sail away into the sea yeah yeah

I am a warrior my mind is set to kill
Life or death is on the line
I am a slayer and you will taste my steel
I've got your life right in my hand

[Chorus]
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
Just want to sail away into the sea yeah yeah

You are a loser and it's such a shame
That you're a fool and you don't know
That in a viking I'll walk all over you
And by my sword you will die

[Chorus]
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
Just want to sail away into the sea yeah yeah

Always will be is also a pretty good balad or whatever it is compared to that one.

We can agree to disagree then. I remember them and they were total cheese.

Kix weren't bad, but they did gay it up quite a bit. I mean, we could always default to Britney Fox, or maybe even Ratt, but Ratt had one or two decent albums.

What about Stryper? I loved them, but I listen to them now and I wonder what the hell I was thinking.

I saw the Guns two weeks ago. Not saying that all the glam bands haven't de-cheesed, but. Just. Trust me on this subject, k ;)

Kix were great. Poison completely ripped them off, Brett Michaels stole the Steve Whiteman's stagemoves and ruined the whole Kix thing. Britny Fox...ugh. I like their music, but the way they dress on some of the album covers really pisses me off. Ratt were pretty cool. I have all of their albums, I prefer Dancing Undercover (for Lay It Down and You're In Love) and Out Of The Cellar (Closet?) though.

Stryper...hmm. I think musically they're not bad, I just refuse to listen to them on the principle of them being primarily missionaries as opposed to musicians. They're coming here next February though. I'm going dressed as an Orthodox Jew :)

I like my Hair too big, don't I :(

Bal-Sagoth raise their ale-horns and give eternal hail to all those who revel in the gleam of winter moon-frosts, the mystic arts of ancient pagan spellcraft and the red rage & black fury of battle. Baleful woe unto all our sworn enemies and mortal foes, and unto all those who are false and who follow the deluded path of monotheistic thralldom... may their blood gleam crimson upon our ensorcelled blades!

hahaha some of these bands are soo chessy..
i have to go with whitesnake and poision as the chessiest bands from the 80's. there is an open mike night near my place and lo and behold there is some middle aged dude always singing every rose has its thorn by freaking poision every week.
I am thinking about covering some chessy 80's metal songs any suggestions?
u should cover nothing else matters its the ultimate in 80s cheese metal

I'd Loudness, what can be funnier than japanese 80's hair metal band?

A lot of their lyrics just makes me laugh

Rock and roll crazy night
You are the heroes tonight
Rock and roll crazy night
You are the hero

manowar

you need proof? listen to "brothers of metal"

I didn't realize that they weren't a joke band until I got on this board, me and my friends at college thought it was a joke when we heard the song

That's not as funny as a metal band covering a pop song to get the attention of the media just so mall kids will purchase their next lame album in return spike the p2p sharing scale to extreme measures for a few months because some homeless Nebraskan didn't pay his bill at a country restaraunt accidentally slipping into the 16th dimension of The Twilight Zone

My favorite band is Crowbar, but I think they can be very cheesy. Their videos don't have alot of life to them, they're just Kirk Windstein making "angry" faces and singing. Their music I love though.

Download Heart of a Dragon by Dragonforce, and I think we will all clearly see who the winner of this thread is.

That's not true, I don't think Iced Earth is anywhere close to as cheesy as the other powermetal bands.

Nice work, Aerosmith are one of my favourite bands, I'm listening to a KISS CD at the moment, Motley Crue *are* my favourite band, and I'm playing a Van Halen riff (Unchained  )

No offence. You like what you like. Rock and Metal is big enough for all tastes. I even like some of (early) Kiss - but I get cheesed-off (no pun intended) when people just say "power metal is cheesy" like it's an accepted fact of nature.

Iron Man

Rhapsody
Manowar
And uh...those two win.

Dragonforce for honorable mention

Hey Lord Abortion, just curious but why do you find AC/DC cheesy?

I'll give you the school boy outfit thing, but besides that I found their stuff to be awesome.

Just to let you know, cheesy =/= bad. Rhapsody, Dragonforce, and Immortal are all conisdered cheesy, but I love them all, as well as consider them cheesy (especially the first two).

Iced Earth sounds more thrash than power metal these days. Especially songs like when the eagle cries, and declaration day.
