i think having good buddies around you in your band in the end the most dull gigs ive had is ones where i barely know the rest of the people and we just play whats needed but if your band is tight as friends gigs are always so much more fun and you all inspire each other to up the game

that's a valid point, and I'd have to say I agree.

I don't really get inspired to drum from listening to music a lot of times, because I tend to listen to voice/guitar oriented music.
Books about musicians seem to really inspire me, though.

Steve gadd and my teacher immediatly comes to mind
Basicly any drummer with a great groove does something for me.
Anything with soul and feel really that's based on hitting something with a stick :)

Um........for me? Josh Eppard, Keith Moon, Jimmy Chamberlin and Chad Smith. Although I think one of the most inspiring things for me is being in a musically strong environment, being around musicians who know what they are doing and are good at what they do.

My greatest inspiration has to be Moon. (I've seen all the movies and own his biography) My older brother's band inspired me to start a band.

i'm always feeling inspired by all sorts of things.. my drums teacher, a new record i've got which turns out to be a real gem, seeing great live acts, talking to other drummers and musicians, quotes from the jazz greats, there are so many things! every day i feel like i'm finding another reason to love playing music.

Right now my major inspiration is Josh Freese, I've always liked his playing but its just been recently that I've really gotten into him.
Some other drummers that I've been inspired by in the past include:
Tucker Rule from Thursday
Brandon (wont even bother with his last name) from The Used
Taylor Hawkins from Foo Figthers
Adam Carson from AFI
Back in the early days Rob Bourden and Travis Barker were big influences, but I ended up outgrowing them after about a year or so.
After seeing a show i'm always excited to get behind the kit or practice with the band

Depending on the type of song my friend has going, a different drummer. For example, for slower songs I listen to Dashboard Confessional. Great drummer.

If I had to pick one person who's influenced and impacted the way I play most it would deffinetly be Peart.

That's awesome. I can honestly say I've never heard all that much of Peart's work, or all that much Rush actually. But I guess since I started this I should say who inspires me. Well first and foremost it would be my fellow musicians, my bandmates, with whom I write music that I personally think is amazing, I wouldn't be with them if I didn't think that. I also draw inspiration from just about any drummer who is more experienced...I love listening to and watching, even discussing drumming with other drummers, it just gives me ideas and tips to improve my own playing.

my inspiration comes alot from pretty much every piece of music i hear. i'm always taking mental notes on what i like and what i don't like about a certain song/band/genre. but for me, nothing inspires me as much as being in my basement with a couple of guys, just hanging out, writing a song together.

If I'm stuck for song ideas, my biggest inspirations come from walking around B&Q and listening to songs I'd never normally listen to. Seriously!
Drummers that never fail to amaze are Stewart Copeland, John Otto and Aaron Spears.

lyrically, ex girlfriends and mates that have pissed me off for my more serious band songs, huge amounts of coffee and the normal retarded content of my brain for my solo stuff
drumming wise, if i hear and i like, i attempt to emulate

I've always drawn inspiration from all genre's and all styles. I have never limited myself,
Inspirations Include- Dave Lombardo, Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham, Jon Theodore, Josh Freese, Buddy Rich, my friend tim for laying the groundwork and showing me the basics, Alex Vanhalen, always been a fan of the At the Gates drummer for playing metal unconventionally.
Most of the reasons these people have influenced me so much, is just the heart and soul they put into their music, it's not just a hobby, it's a lifestyle.

Wanting to get better is my inspiration, I try to base myself on players like John Bonham Steve Gadd and Neil Peart. I play drums for fun and hopefully to get famous in a band(hey you never know... I have a good feeling about the new band I might join!)

Just listen to DBJ's solo he recently posted and tell me the roll at the end doesn't inspire you to bust out the practice pad and a metronome.

I get inspiration from videos, books & what I feel like on that particular day. Also I might nick a drum beat from a song & moddify it a little bit :D
Life, the musical interaction of the sounds around us all the time. Great musicians.

im obviously inspired by vets like Portnoy, Gadd, Peart, etc. But im really inspried by Ulrich. Maybe its his rediculously simplistic grooves, or maybe its the fact that i love 'Tallica. Eah, both.

I think most of my inspiration lately has come from listening to myself play with a couple friends... We get together every Saturday and jam off-and-on all day. Then we go through the recordings we made looking for anything that stands out and make MP3s of them. Then I take them to work with me on my iPod and listen to them all day. They may lack structure and there are probably a lot of messed up parts but they're still great to listen to and it's something I can take pride in.

I absorb all the music I can, and let my hands figure out what they want to do. I'd say radiohead is my biggest inspiration right now, anything that I can really connect with.
