There aren't a lot of us; however: please read everything before posting.
Preamble: by posting in this community thread, you adhere to the following community standards:
1. You contribute to Sputnikmusic (posting reviews, commenting, etc.),
2. You will not spam and/or double post in this thread,
3. You will be respectful and polite in correspondence, regardless of status on MX,
4. You will keep Damrod's thread clean of spam and off-topic discussion so he doesn't blow a gasket.
///
For the purposes of this thread and our community, spam is defined as:
(1) Double posting. Take the time to quote everyone you wish to quote and put it in a single post, (2) single-smiley posts, and (3) "conversation"-esque posting; that is, we don't want pages of a user saying "hay guyz" and having fifteen people saying, "Hi, what's up?" in return. Take that to AIM, MSN, mySpace, Facebook, and whatever medium.
None of that stuff is beneficial, so please try not to spam this mofo :)
///
There are not a lot of us, so this thread had better not spiral out of control.
Everything else not outlined in the rules is fair game, so just be smart about the use of this thread.
If you have a legitimate suggestion, take it to here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405738).
If you would like to report a problem, please go here (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386334).
If you feel the need to post something that is neither a suggestion nor a problem, then post it here.
Otherwise, have fun discussing Sputnikmusic and/or things not involving Sputnikmusic.
Always breaking the rules, Jom :)
Haha.
Yeah, well, this will take off one way or another. I know that there were a lot of extended jokes that went on in the Report Problems thread that made Damrod go nutso and close trying to make his statement, so maybe people will get the hint and post those kind of things here. That way, Damrod doesn't turn into a Sputnikmusic version of Himmler or Goering, and people can share a laugh or two and let things be fun.
That way, everybody wins

I think I'm going to write a review soon, but the problem is I don't really know what. Heh, if I actually had money right now, I would probably go out and buy something and review, but for now I have one or two things that I could possibly review, and those have already been reviewed with similar ratings.

Review whoring is encouraged, considering it's done in the different genre forums to begin with :p

On another note, I'm both extremely disappointed and very surprised that my Cryptopsy review got so few posts.
something vague
10-22-2005, 05:07 PM
It has gotten to two pages. That is over 20 posts, so how could you be dissapointed? Most of my reviews usually get no more than 15 comments, besides my pop-punk reviews that automatically received a good deal of comments and views. But then again, a lot of people don't read reviews, or maybe just comment, if they don't know of the band or artist, which can be very annoying at times.
Shadows

True, I guess it's unreasonable for me to hope all of my reviews get as long as my Opeth review. Metal is very popular around here, but nobody seems to post in metal reviews.
something vague
10-22-2005, 05:15 PM
One Metallica review has more comments than probably the whole Jazz section as a whole. So I don't really get what you're trying to say at all. Then again, that Alter Bridge review has over 500 comments, and mostly involves a bunch of idiots arguing over pretty much nothing, and that is in the Rock section I believe.

Aside from the wildly popular metal bands like Metallica and nu metal. Most of the stuff I review isn't as popular, and doesn't generate many posts. Even my Trivium review only had two pages, compared to the other biased reviews that got 4.
Metallica reviews are all 5+ pages of flaming anyway.
Nobody reads my reviews unless a) they're new, or b) I bump them.
I tend not to worry about it, though.

Right, so I have a little issue:
Someone sent me a mySpace invite as a "present," so, to be nice, I accepted it and have been filling out my little profile thing.
Now, I want to put a background image on my little profile thing, but I haven't taken a Web Creation class since tenth grade (looooooooong time ago).
Where do I insert the HTML in the edit profile part? I know I use <img src=> tags (at least, I think I do), but where do I put it in? :-\

Master of Reality is the only album from Black Sabbath that I would consider to be perfect. Musically, vocally, and lyrically this album is thought provoking and controversial with songs such as After Forever, Sweet Leaf, and Children of the Grave. Released in 1971, it was their third album release and second one in less than a year. While many believe that Vol. 4 was the bands best release and while I believe it to be very good, it didn’t have as many songs on it that I consider to be classic.
This is all I have for my Master of Reality review intro. Could someone add to it please with some album and band history? I'll credit whoever helps me out in the review, I don't have time to finish that part of the review since I'm in the middle of writing an angry e-mail to apple about my iPod.

That thing is for people with stars to click on to rep you. If you click it, it just shows you if you've been repped on that post.

The way you said "you brought it on yourself" didn't seem like a joke.
But now that it's cleared up, we can all go back to normal. :)
I shall explain rep to you: Users that have stars can rep. Whenever they feel like it, they can click the little checkmark/x box to give you positive or negative rep. Positive adds to your rep count, and negative subtracts from it. Once you get up to 1000 rep, you yourself gets stars and also the ability to rep others.
The number of stars depends on your postcount. I think if you have under 2000-3000 posts or something like that you get three stars, but over that and you'll have four. Mods are the only ones with five.
Hope that helped. :)

Basically. In retrospect rep is completely meaningless, but people still like to get it. I get it's just an honorable thing to have stars.
Why do people find it necessary to put something similar to:
Artist - Album Title

Me too. I had to do it with my Akercocke review, only because the title was too long to enter (which I think mx should change). I think tracklists, album titles, band lineups, and bios should be left out of reviews altogether. Tracks and titles are clearly labled in the review automatically, and we have band description pages for a reason. I really think people should utilize the description page. It gives good info on the band (provided you enter the right stuff) and it looks very half-assed to have some bands with descriptions and others without one.
Can someone give me a link to one of their old avatars so I can get a picture that will fit on here? (preferablly Jom or Shadows Fallen) If they can get a link of course.

Didn't the latest Arsis EP have three? I've heard that referred to interchangably as an EP and as an album, so I'm not entirely sure which it was. I don't really know much about EPs to be honest (in fact, I don't think I have any apart from that one), but I was just making a hypothetical, anyway. Incidentally, the latest Arsis EP/album really is brilliant for anyone who likes melodic death metal, or metal at all, I'd say. The opening song is absolutely epic, but brilliant all the way through.

A radio station played "Heard it Through the Grapevine" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" one after the other today. It made me happy.
My name changes are confusing. =\
I'm going to start a review tonight I think.

Yeah, and I'm still Ripper22. I think with pre-2005 users (or maybe users who joined before Sputnik started) the cookies for login and name are retained under the old name.
It's been reading my new name for quite some time. Quite perplexing.
My computer blows.

It's funny how I always post the next review that I'm going to do, but I always end up doing another one. It just happened again. I'm not going to do Master of Realit, but a pop-punk album that is a follow up to a bands first album. I'm not saying what it is though.

I have to yet to post any of the reviews I've been planning on doing. I've been on a Cradle of Filth binge lately, so I feel like doing Dusk & Her Embrace.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about your requests.
Unfortunately, you may have to wait for Roadrunner. :( My computer's crashing wiped my hard drive clean so I have to retrieve all the music I had before, which will take an extremely long time. :(
Slipknot I have on CD, so I can do that very soon.

I've been on for the past several hours. :)
So my review schedule will go like this:
NEXT: Roadrunner United - All-Star Sessions
THEN: Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine
We'll see where it goes from there.

Well, it probably was my fault. I suppose that's what you get for eating a hamburger, and not some fancy sandwich.
Past 7 or 8pm we "break down cabinet," meaning the fancy cabinet thingy where you put the meat in trays so it'll stay warm. So, when we do that, we have just one or two trays instead of 5 or 6. This means we cram all the meat from those many trays into one or two, thus making them sit and gestate in their own grease for quite a while. Pretty appetizing, eh?
cram all the meat

People piss me off. Just look at all the good, un-biased reviews that are negged.
This is coming from a sputnik n00b, I guess, but what does the "site ranking" and "weighted ranking" mean?
pulseczar
10-30-2005, 12:59 PM
site ranking is where you rank amongst every reviewer (I'm #19  ) on sputnik. Weighted ranking is basically all the votes you've received in reviews that determine your site ranking.

Weighted ranking is somehow determined by combining the number of votes you've received, the amount of positive votes you have and the number of reviews submitted.
No, no, silly. Weighted ranking is the percentage of positive votes you've attained through all your reviews.
