I remember when you posted that Steve. Pretty good list, but some of it sucks.
Then I heard There is A Light That Never Goes Out, which I will defend to my dying day as one of the best songs of all time. For me personally, it is the best bar none. I have never had a lyric which I relate to so much. I have never had a lyric which I admire so much.

There's already a rule about racist comments though moz.
1) No blatant, obnoxious, and/or disruptive/blaintant spam threads are allowed. This includes threads offensively attacking race (of users), sexual orientation (of users), and other users/Mods.

I think we've all succumb to politically incorrect slurs or good-natured racial comments now and again.
It's still wrong. Anyway some goodnatured ribbing can be handled but when people are being offensive for the sake of being offensive it's intolerable, I think. The rules around these parts have been pretty flexible and they will continue to be, but there are limits.

...I realize that, after my mistake last night I think it would be a nice thing for people to forget about it a little and they will with the many reviews being turned in today.
You need an attitude adjustment, kiddo.
First of all, you are not the supreme reviewer on Sputnikmusic, yet you think you are. Furthermore, you're the only person who seems to share this belief. This is one thing that needs to go. However, it's not the most irritating thing.
The thing that you need to stop immediately is your overly critical comments on Sputnikmusic. I could pick out at least five reviews where your comment was "[Reviewer], I think this is one of your weaker reviews..." and then go on a blahblahblah rampage regarding spelling, grammar, and what have you.
Telling someone that he/she has some incorrectly-spelt words is more than likely NOT news to them. Your reviews aren't the mark of perfection, either, but you don't see regulars going through all your reviews with a fine-tooth comb and blasting you that you messed up a homonym.
In addition, it doesn't speak well for you to submit a trash review. By writing something like the following...
Hey Vague, remember when you turned in a reveiw of Hawthorne Height's that got deleted? Prepare to feel nostalgic because (in a minute or two hold on) here's a review of Atreyu-The Curse."
... it shows that you don't take your own writing very seriously, and you are exemplifying what it is to be a poor citizen in the Sputnikmusic community. You're disrespecting yourself and the site. I trust that you won't even think of doing this again. You're lucky that Med didn't ban you... and, oh my God, you spelled "reveiw" the first time instead of "review!" Kripes, that is one of your weaker comments.
There were a couple more paragraphs, but I edited them out.

I never thought of myself as a top reviewer at all. I can easily name at the very least 25 people who are much better reviewers than me. I understand why you think I'm like that, but it is as far from the truth as you can get.
I take my writing very seriously, but granted sometimes I am quite immature.
I'll do my best to represent this site as a mature member since I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon. I apologize to all those I have ever offended and I will work hard to earn all of your respect back (if I ever had it).
I understand why you think I'm like that, but it is as far from the truth as you can get.
Right, and how are people supposed to know that? Take a new visitor, for example.
"WOW, this guy has almost 1,000 posts on Sputnikmusic!
Wait... how many of these 1,000 posts are genuine comments?"
My (read: Our) point is this: until you prove otherwise, I (read: we) will hold the same universal opinion. This is not asking too much, I don't think.

That's sweet. You guys sound like you're connected as a band.
We had a band practice today too. I wish my band was that way. I pretty much hate my drummer's guts, and my bassist/singer is a full-blown control freak (who may or may not be gay). The singer constantly wants to contribute to songs, but he honestly has no talent at songwriting. To be perfectly frank, the worst riffs I've ever heard come from him. He suggested to me that instead of being an "original band" (my idea), we be exactly the same as Lamb of God. Yet these people are the only musicians I know who can play decently in time. I practically have to force them to practice, and they have awful taste in music.
It's the most frustrating thing in my life at the moment.

b) John Martyn - On The Cobbles
c) John Martyn - Solid Air
d) Shigeru Umebayashi - 2046 OST
e) m83 - m83

Our drummer tends to overplay, but it seems that if he doesn't, he doesn't really sound that good. So I gues that's fine with me. The bass played basically does whatever you tell him, but I tend to have a problem with him never really having an opinion on what he wants to do. The other guitarist is a good metal player, but I hate his tone (scooped and hard on the ears), and some of his stuff can come out sort of generic. We work well fine enough, but I really only like one song of the three we have, which is the one with the fun breakdown.
I'm the only one who freaks out and dances around attacking his instrument. I'm cool.
edit: I'm not much of a metal player, either. =\

I just gasmed myself. I saw the last 30 minutes of a Radiohead concert on tv.
the track listing for the songs I saw were.
1. Idioteque
2. Everything In Its Right Place
3. Exit Music
4. Kid A
5. Karma Police
Thom went nuts on the songs. On Idioteque he kept lifting up his shirt and dancing all weird and spastic. Lots of energy. His voice sounded great live too.
Johnny Greenwood did this awesome solo with a voice sample. After the part on everything in its right place when Thom says "what is it you try to say" he took it and did all sorts of awesome stuff with it. He soloed and messed around with it for a minute or two, but it twas great.
Exit Music was faboulous and Kid A was great. But Thom didn't use a weird voice effect live for Kid A, I think he was trying too because he was messin around on some tool but he looked pissed when his voice was just normal.
Karma Police was so much better live. It was amazing is all I can say. At the end of the song he did another round of "I lost myself" with the crowd and then left.
Great show, I wish I saw it all :upset:

See, I did brilliant in high school. Taking Honors classes has given me [not nearly enough] scholarship money, getting exemptions from required classes, and so on and so forth. However, the work didn't prepare me AT ALL for university in the years I've been here, really. It's a brand new game here.
But there are success stories of the stoner/dumbass/insert other different term here who've completely turned around in college or university. I'm not an example because I dominated high school, but hey.
And then, there are people who all of a sudden get the novel idea that, in order to get a half-decent job, they need an education beyond high school.

You could go into sound engineering. They make lots and lots of money. You could do that after being a musician, if that's what you aspire to be. Of course, sound engineering is a difficult line of work. But just think: you'd be on the road, just like a musician, but you'd be setting up their set, micing/mikeing them up, and making sure they're in tune, among other things.
Also: some people just can't afford university costs. There's nothing wrong with unions, since they make a hell of a lot of money + have support.

I'm not that great of a player, and although I could be by the time I graduated, the idea doesn't seem to appeal to me. I'm mostly looking for something would require me taking many music theory classes, which I think would be just about anything. I was considering composition or arrangement, but I'm still not sure at this point. It's a good thing I still have a year and a half before I go. :(

I'm at University of Toronto, double major in American Studies and History. I'm debating switching to a specialist in American Studies, but we'll see.

Go into music education if you can handle little kids/high schoolers :)
Next year or the following year, I start my student teaching. I forget when, exactly. My advisor is kind of a douchebag, so I'll have to speak with someone else.
Jom, and anybody else post-high school, where are you at in school?
What are we talking about, location or class standing?

I'm a music major but I also am going to have concentrations in math and english. Keep in mind that having a music degree doesn't necessarily mean being a starving artist. In terms of composition you could work on soundtracks for movies, video games or TV shows, write jingles for commercials, or write crappy pop songs for tAtU. Also with a music degree and some economics background you could easily go into working at a recording industry. Some schools (USC and UCLA even offer a music industry major). Another interesting possibility is to work as a designer for music products, like working for a company like Line 6.

Those are some interesting options. My strength second to music would be English, so any form of writing is open to me. The possibilities in composition look promising at this point. I'll just have to keep looking stuff up to see what possibilities there are, as I still know little about what I could do. The starving artist situation is the very thing I want to avoid.
tAtU

That right there is my problem. I hate teaching. :( I wouldn't mind teaching uni, but the idea of going for an extra two years or so for a masters doesn't look too pleasing, judging by what my brother has to go through. Unfortunately, it looks like that's what I'll be reduced to unless I manage to uncover some really sweet career that I'm not aware of yet (which is entirely possible).

I just found out that to take music in university, you need at least a gr. 9 Conservatory piano certificate. I stopped at gr. 8.
I'm not sure anymore, I know I'd be happiest pursuing music as a profession, but the chances of me being able to support a family (or myself, for that matter) by being a musician are slim/none. It's an impossible decision because I'm a good student, so income is pretty much guaranteed if I go into sciences or social sciences. Yet I know I'd be happier having music in my life, as cheesy as that sounds.

I can relate to this. I am a bass player, but i know that pursuing a career as a a straight musician wouldn't be the most rewarding. So I plan to major in music production and engineering, that way, I can study music AND learn the technical aspects of it.

Tennessean is a real word. It's even the name of a newspaper.
I'm going to college. No question. The question is, what can I do in music that won't leave me broke later in life?
This is the dilema I'm currently faced with as a junior in high skool.

Scruples is a word too. For some reason it makes me think of apple peels.

I need help. I'm writing a review, but somehow when I press the enter key it's somehow double spacing, but I don't want that. How do I get off of it?

I am too. Pressing it once will produce one space.
But anyhoo, I don't know why it would do two. The button may be sticky, or you may have the page set to double-spaced.

It's also an 80's board game based on Scruples (hence the name. This is also where I got it from, while watching I Love the 80's [which is also the best of the I Love series]).

My current jazz teacher taught Steve Vai in and advanced jazz composition class at Berklee. He also found a post I made on mx about mixing jazz and hardcore and brought it up in class today. I was so confused at first but then I understood after he said "posted online."
