The blood donation people over here say that every donation can save 3 lives. Whilst you are allowed to give blood once every 3 months.

So if you did it once every 3 months, for your entire lifetime. You could be saving in excess of 800 lives. Thats superman like stats.

Oh man these past few days have been craaaaaaaazy. Not crazy exciting or enjoyable, just busy busy busy. I was helping my aunt with an exhibition/convention thing she runs, and I was literally working everyday from 5am to midnight from friday-sunday. I had a whole bunch of different crap to do but the absolute worst was manning the cash on Saturday (by and large the busiest day for conventions) and there were two different expos in the convention centre. One was ours, the other one (across the hall) was an art expo. Anyway, there is very clear signage with our company name, logo etc displayed everywhere, and same for them. We had signs everywhere saying "this is for ____ Expo ONLY, no refunds". Every customer that came up we would ask them if they wanted tickets for our expo or the art expo. I kid you not we had well over 100 people, probably 200, who agreed that they were looking for tickets for our Expo, they paid our admission, and came back 3 minutes later saying they bought the wrong tickets. By the second refund I was ready to slap those people. I am not cut out for customer service. :upset:

Anyway I am back to real life now, enough of that "dealing with people" garbage. I'll take the school books for as long as I need to, heh.

And I noticed we have a new subforum tailored just for me. :D

Dear Russian Satellite Diary,

I had mean as farts tonight, the sort that constantly come out and smell quite foul. The sort that lingers in the air.

Lately I've been getting into writing again, after a dry patch. I finally finished off one of my old reviews, Cyclone by Tangerine Dream. Whilst at school I've been doing tons too, mostly in English and Media.

I never consider myself a soppy romantic, but lately I've been falling for this girl. She is a fairly strict sort, but the more I talk to her, the more I want to talk to her. If you get what I mean. She is quite a looka too, and I'm fairly certain she digs me. The only problem is I'm a wimp at making the first move. :-\

What else? Musically I'm finding lots to enjoy. School is enjoyable. Family are cool atm.

I'm going to try one of these cute little music logs. Mind my lack of creativity.

Twas a busy week, but despite it I still managed to listen to far more music than most people. I have tried no less than ten times to listen to my complete Ryan Adams discography in one sitting, this time was a noble effort with only one record going unplayed. As such, Ryan Adams tops my list for the week. Supergrass was up next, and while I listened to 57 songs, many for only the second or third time, they left no notable impression on me. Talking Heads clocked in at a respectable number of rotations - I've been getting back into them recently and I'm saddened at my previous lack of Talking Heads love. Elvis Costello garnered a worthy number of rotations, thanks to preparations for a review of This Year's Model. T and S artists filled out the remainder of my top 10, and it must have happened while I was out because I remember nary a Taking Back Sunday song being heard by me.

And that was the week that was, and that's the way it is.

Haha, exactly!

How the hell can you pass off "accidentally sleeping with someone" multiple times? AT FIFTEEN FREAKIN' YEARS OLD.

Good Lord. I'm not saying this girl could be my daughter (oh, you know me, a major player in kindergarten/first grade), but if that was my daughter, I'd flip a ****.

Speaking of muses, I quite liked writing that first one. Unfortunately, the next one I wanted to do is one that Moz is currently writing, and the last thing I'd want is to steal her thunder or something.

Then again, she may not turn it in until 2014, so I have a legit shot or something :p

Uhoh what is this I am supposedly "writing"? Because I am not doing any muses right now nor am I planning too.

Unless you're talking about that band movies thing, but that was a distant, distant plan, so go for it.

edit: I like the Pogues though I've only heard a couple songs. "A Pair of Brown Eyes" is one of my favourite songs.

I think that pretty much describes me....my family is kinda the definition of suburban middle class. It's a pretty good life....can't complain.

I've decided sometime in the next week I'm gonna take my parent's advice and go apply for a job at the local movie theater. It's pretty simple stuff...taking people's ticket stubs, sweeping up garbage, etc....plus, free movies.

I sold about 10 CD's today at a vintage store (actually named Vintage Stock), and I got $50 store credit. Pretty good, I was also able to sell the CD's without a parent/guardian because I got my learners permit today too. :) I got some Andrew W.K., Cold, Alkaline Trio, Evergreen Terrace, Alien Ant Farm, and From Autumn to Ashes. I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart.

For example: one evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed.

Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me."

I said "What?! What did you say?"

So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear: "You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?"

Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.

The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, unnamed store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said lets get a pair for each outfit. We went onto the jewelry department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you... she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey." She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation she finally said, "I think this is all, dear, let's go to the cashier."

I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it."

Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled "WHAT?!"

I then said "Honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?"

Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either...

... but at least that bitch knows I'm smarter than her.

I was just screwing around on wikipedia, and I ran across this little white girl duo group called Prussian Blue. It's actually pretty scary, because at first look, it just looks like two 13 year old blonde girls who sing folk songs, but they're actually a white supremist Neo Nazi group. It's pretty freaky, to tell you the truth. Their name is derived from a chemical residue found in Birkenau's gas chambers that was the evidence used to support the use of Zyklon B to kill the Jews during the Holocaust.

Anyone else a little weirded out?

I watched the ring again and finished reading all the books, and I have to say, the books are much more intelligent and more interesting than the movie, though maybe not as scary.

EightMilesHigh

When I move all my hair (which is quite a bit) to the front of my face, I can still see it.

Today was my last day of spring break. I woke up early due to bad sleeping issues, and decided to go downtown. I went downtown and had breakfast (muffin and iced tea) and proceeded to wander around downtown for two hours or so. I found a cool little cd store, which I had fun wandering around for an hour or so. I ended up purchasing Los Angeles by X and Rufus Wainwright by Rufus Wainwright.

I then wandered further to a comic book store, in which I had a delightful discussion about Spiderman with proprietor of said shop. I found there the Sin City graphic novels for which I had been searching; unfortunately, it was more than I was looking to spend at the time.

I then visited my mother for her lunch break, where we had a nice chat. I then went to a thrift store where I found a t-shirt that had a picture of a character throwing a video game controller at a tv screen, which I purchased.

I then returned home, stopping on the way to get my glasses fixed at Lenscrafters. All in all, a very fun day. And now I'm sitting here relaxing to the sounds of the Manic Street Preachers 1994 classic The Holy Bible.

They're such a solid, fun band. So many people look past them because of "Smooth Criminal," but their first two albums were excellent. "Death Day," "Courage," "Movies," "Glow," "Goodbye," "Hope," and "Dark In Here" are all fantastic tracks from those albums (the last one is from the video game for The Punisher).

This is a link to one of my favorite live performances by them - it's "Glow" from their second album... you can still see the scars in Dryden's head from where he had his halo screwed in. But the best part is that they're absolutely spot-on throughout the entire show, and Tye's bass is awesome (both in looks and in playing). It's from the Sharon Osbourne show, but whatever. The performance is solid.

No, I haven't.

I'm more of a Jack Bauer as a character fan moreso than a Kiefer fan.

However, I did like Kiefer in Phone Booth.

Isn't it funny... you hear a phone ringing and it could be anybody. But a ringing phone has to be answered, doesn't it?

Hi guys.

So these blurbs. I'm tempted to crank out 20. But I have just 10 album reviews with another coming by mid week. Is their a certain ratio Jeremy would like us to keep it to. I've thought of adding blurbs to accompany some of my album reviews. Such as the one I wrote for a Townshend album to accompany a full one I did for him, as well.

I've thought of "blurbing" the entire Los Lobos catalogue, as no albums have been reviewed from them yet. And perhaps never will be on sputnik. But that may give someone second thoughts to do a full one if anyone ever has a mind too.

So, what's the word on this? Anything we should or should not do so far as blurbs are concerned?

Jom
03-26-2006, 08:54 PM
The only rule I personally have is that you participate. Go nuts writing blurbs instead of reviews - it doesn't matter to me at all - so long as you participate and make your experience with the site worthwhile.

The whole point of introducing blurbs was to get people who are pressed for time / lazy / not particularly skilled writers to still be involved and active with the site by giving them something to work with that's more comfortable for them.

EDIT: that's not to say that I discourage active reviewers to not write blurbs... sometimes, users who are unwilling to review an album may feel more comfortable with just a blurb, which is absolutely cool with me and likely the rest of the staff.

pulseczar

Hmm. Getting lazy is what concerns me. I'm usually pressed for time, and after working all day and all the other crap I do I just want to post sometimes. I don't want to fall into a pit, here. I enjoy writing reviews, but I get some "too long" comments sometimes. Even though I think maybe just two or three have been, while the others have been pretty good reads.

I figured blurbs would be good practice for me to shorten my other stuff a little, though. Although none of my regular reviews contain gratuitous information and are tight, I would like them to be a bit more succinct.

I'll give it some thought. Perhaps 1.5 blurbs for every review would be good policy for me. So 2 reviews, three blurbs. So perhaps I'll do some blurbs to catch up and then get my little system going.

Thanks....

Haha you are really overthinking this John. No one, and I mean no one cares how many blurbs, reviews, news items etc you submit. As long as you participate that is all that matters! Some people do a review a day, some people do a review a year. Everyone has different paces they write at, different amounts of free time etc. Just do whatever works for you and we all appreciate it whether you do 1 blurb every 10 minutes or write 1 review in your entire time on this site.

Haha I love the little humourous messages randomly placed through the site. This is what I get after searching an album that wasn't in the database:

The whole Arthur Case plot was pretty lame (I don't want to give anything away for people who haven't seen it yet), but the twist was great.

Spoilers Warning

That was such a poorly told story. Spike Lee is so sloppy. I can't stand how he think he's hot **** so he writes all of this New York City racism into his plotlines. He gets off on his own style and does whatever he wants with complete disregard to creating a cogent story. How about this: he shows one female in the group in the car at the end, however the girl is switched into the group of hostages, but in a later scene she is at work at digging the hole. So sloppy. The whole point of Denzel's drive is to create closure but he manages to take a deal and leave the war crime information with White, the character least likely to follow the lead (notice her take Case's blood money and also the mayor's almost bemused attention when he says "war crimes"). Totally anticlimactic and against the flow. However I guess it coincides with the rest of the movie being full of unnecessarily convoluted loose ends.

This reminds me of the time I saw Phone Booth and right at the end the ratty guy shows up and I'm like, I know that guy. So I cycle through who it could be in my mind and I'm like, no, it's not Kiefer. So I wait through the credits with my arms crossed and a pensive look on my face right through all the crap and the hookers and stuff and yeah, it was Kiefer.

I'm on the fence. I love reading other people's blurbs, but as for writing them (even though I've only done 2 so far) I feel like it if I was just a little less lazy I could turn them into full reviews. Maybe I will someday though. They can serve as rough guidelines which organise my thoughts for a future review. That mid-way interpretation works for me.
