The top 12 overall listens on my iPod:
The Beatles-713
Coheed & Cambria-597
Emery-269
Hopesfall-211
Youth Group-181
Panic! At The Disco-126
Modest Mouse-118
Pink Floyd-114
Disturbed-113
Fall Out Boy-102
Shadows Fall-100
Thrice-85
I was surprised to see Panic! At The Disco up so high. Heh, this comes from letting girls listen to my iPod at school all the time. Everything else seems in place though. :)

I have speakers connected to my iPod that I listen to when I go to bed, and it runs for at least 3 hours before my mom comes in and shuts it off, plus I've probably listened to The Beatles at least 300 times in the past five days because I've been sick. Heh, I've owned this iPod for a little over two months.

Those who "take a year off" after high school are the same ones that end up cleaning that high school's bathrooms for a living.
I just don't see the point in taking a year off of school unless it's for illness or mental exhaustion. I've been plowing through school for over sixteen years and I'm not going to be letting up anytime soon. I just can't. If I sit around and not do anything, it's like everything I've learned has gone out the window. It's much too hard to get back into the swing of things, especially if you're making the jump from high school to college or university.
Go on vacations or travel the world after you actually have money from your REAL job. Working two jobs that give you $7/hour isn't going to do ****. You still have to pay taxes and everything once you become eighteen, anyway.
But again, that's just me.

But again, that's just me. Taking a year off can be a good way to grow as a person. As I've said earlier, I've been well off all my life, so taking a year off to explore another part of this world should help me immensly in the long term. Whilst also helping me learn more about myself and what I want to do in this world.
And unless you sit on your *** doing nothing for a year, then I don't think it will be hard at all to get back into the swing of things.
Taking a trip before or after university doesn't really make a difference, either way you're going to have accumulated up a huge debt by the very end.

I'm considering taking next year off. I've been feeling really down lately and really doubtful of my major. I'm majoring in American Studies and History but it just seems pretty useless. After this year I'll be halfway done University and I'm just so scared of having to go into the real world. I don't want to end up 40 and unhappy. But I don't like any of the jobs available to me with a history degree. Teacher? Researcher? Historian? What else is there? None of those things are really for me. I'm also doing terrible in school right now but I'm not motivated to fix it. I had a Canadian Politics essay due yesterday and I'm only 1/3 done even though I've been working on it for 2 weeks. I'm just feeling really bored and unmotivated. But the problem is... what will taking next year off solve? It won't make me any happier with my major. And I'm afraid of getting back into the swing of things. But yeah I'm probably going to fail at least one class this semester, which is insane. I've been a straight A student all my life and this just isn't working. And the worst thing is I don't even feel motivated to fix anything.

Yeah that's my problem too, I tend to write a sentence and then take a 15 minute break. Each sentence is far too laborious... I spend a good hour each essay just trying to come up with variations on additionally, furthermore, moreover, etc etc without steeping to stuff like also and what's more.
I'm at 60% now
I'm still doing that damn mosaic v. melting pot I've been working on for a month. I have all the ideas in my head and I know exactly what I need to say, it is just a matter of actually writing it. But I need to submit it before 6pm today (I still have like 10 hours) or else it is 2% off and it isn't worth it
I just wrote this essay -
Can popular music still be confrontational and subversive or is the ability to shock simply another commodity? Give appropriate examples.
I spent a good 600 words attacking Rock Against Bush for no real reason other than wanting to. I also slipped in a reference to Milli Vanilli, and included this biting sentence -
....although millions of people have seen Psycho, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and films with similar soundtracks, very few could name the composers or works they’ve heard. Despite the amount of people who have unknowingly been exposed to this music, the audience for it is very limited. This is also true of the more extreme end of popular music: Metal Machine Music was only shocking to all 4 of the people who bought it. .

So I found out today, that because my political orientation is clearly left, most Americans would call me a "commie".
I find that hilarous. :)
Why do you have to be sarcastic all the time now?
I've always been sarcastic, but that's also called being laid-back, especially when people 'get' that I'm being sarcastic.
You sound like Vague.
Not really. I don't know whether to laugh at the joke or at you for trying to pass that off as a joke.
Lighten up dude, you used to be so nice and laid-back.
I don't need to take orders from you, nor do I have to answer to you at all.
And I'm still nice and laid-back - ask anyone anywhere, from L&R to R&M to pop-punk to anywhere else. People actually accept things being put point-blank to them there (L&R, for instance), or they "get" my humor (in the case of R&M).
And I haven't done anything that dictates that I've been a slacker for a mod. Nobody here except for the rest of the staff and a few elite users have any idea of how much work I do for this site and Sputnikmusic outside of Sputnikmusic itself.
Until you guys do, you can take your opinions of me and the way I handle things or my modding style and shove 'em where the sun doesn't shine, because I don't have to change for three or four people who don't like me. I've never been liked by everybody, and I certainly couldn't care less if three or four users don't like me, but I do the jobs that are asked of me and I do them well.
And is it me, but is it the same three or four of you that has a problem with how I put things? That's, you know, just a thought to bear in mind.
You guys just get all pissy and moany when you don't like the answers I'm giving you. That's not my problem. I don't bullshit and tell people that everything's going to be okay or that the Golden Rule always applies in life or any of that crap. I would rather tell you guys the truth from a rational point-of-view and wake you guys up to things NOW rather than you guys going "DERRRRR" later on.
You can ignore me if you like and trash me in your MSN chats, but it doesn't change the fact that you will lose any argument you have with me about life.
Case in point:
What factors, again?
There would still be loans I would have to payoff. I don't know if I would have a kid then, or be in a serious relationship. Because of all the factors, it would be better to do this before college because the change might be gone. Plus, who knows, I might discover what I want to do in life when I'm on the trip.
You guys completely missed my explanation. Did I not break down these "factors" in your post? You talk about paying off loans - do you not realize it's expensive to go to Europe? You wouldn't have to worry about money as much if you did well in school and got a scholarship, or applied for scholarships, even. Your parents will only support to financially to a certain degree. The rest is all on you - and working two jobs with barely-over minimum wage isn't going to cut it. ANYONE that's over the age of fifteen here will vouch for this - so don't think that I'm spilling fallacies to discourage you just because I'm Big Bad Jom boohoo-hoo.
A lot of you have this pre-conceived notion that life is going to work out as you've planned, but I'm telling you that it does not. You have to adjust and be prepared for change. A lot of this has to do with how young you guys are.
And when I said, "Oh sure, that's possible," it wasn't sarcastic.
Do you guys have a problem with how I don't sugarcoat things?
Tough ****. That's not changing, and I'm not going anywhere, so you can either ignore it and piss and moan in your MSN chats, or you can accept what I have to say. Do what you like, because I really couldn't care less of what your opinion is of me.
End of discussion.
So I found out today, that because my political orientation is clearly left, most Americans would call me a "commie".

Is it particularly strange that a jew is interested in reading Mein Kampf? It's not because i'm anti semitic, self hater, but i'm rather curious to see what Hitler actually thought. It seems that the book really ignited the holocaust, and i think the holocaust is perhaps the most interesting topic in world history.

I don't know, I do not really want to know what is stated there. The guy is, was and will always be a moron. Period.
On a side note, Mein Kampf was one of the best selling books in Turkey last year
If you can get through reading all of Mein Kampf, give yourself a cake, because it's the same derivative drivel for over 800 pages. Hitler was not an excellent writer, but he was a terrific orator. In his memoirs, he repeats himself (and his propaganda) unmercilessly. It's a chore to plow through, so I suggest you don't read it unless you want the challenge of reading the same shlock over and over again.
The book itself did not play a very significant role in starting the Holocaust, though. A lot of people just chose to follow it when it was underway, but that boils down to Nazi propaganda itself - not Hitler's own personal propaganda.
It's hard to pick up sarcasm over the internet you know sheez, learn to use a :p smilie if you were sarcastic as it really didn't seem like sarcasm.

I wouldn't necessarily call Hitler a moron. The man was intellectual- Even a Jew cannot deny the man's intelligence. 'Crazy' would be much more appropriate. He was a good leader, with a scathing, evil plot. And if it weren't for his decision to invade the Soviets (coincidentally the same mistake Napoleon Bonaparte made that got him exiled), I'd probably be dead. And Albert Einstein really saved our lives by beating the nazi's into developing the bomb.
The man wasn't an intellectual in terms of book-smarts, though, or else he would have finished going to school to be an artist. He was fairly stupid, and it wound up costing him later on.
What he was intelligent about was knowing how to play on people's emotions, especially their fears. He rose through the ranks of government by doing this - not by being a well-endowed political scientist.

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, I'm not good at debating or anything.
I wouldn't necessarily call Hitler a moron. The man was intellectual- Even a Jew cannot deny the man's intelligence. 'Crazy' would be much more appropriate. He was a good leader, with a scathing, evil plot.
I'll agree with all of you on this. Hitler was extremely gifted as an orator and leader, he understood how to manipulate the German people and was a master of propaganda. He took advantage of all the crises and problems in Germany that had been building since the war (Versailles, "stab in the back" myth, hyperinflation, the depression etc etc) and gave people a solution. In Mein Kampf he explicitly states that the key to winning over the people is repetition, repetition, repetition. So it is no surprise to me that Mein Kampf is a redundant read. But he was not a pragmatist, and he so believed his own ideology and was so determined on the way he "expected" it to turn out that it blinded him and brought about his downfall, I think.
And if it weren't for his decision to invade the Soviets (coincidentally the same mistake Napoleon Bonaparte made that got him exiled), I'd probably be dead.
I don't know the reason for the personal reference, and of course it is good for the western allies who can brush off the devastating Russian losses, but Hitler's decision to invade the Soviet Union is what lost him the war. You might be agreeing with me here, I'm not sure. Hitler became overambitious and should have quit while he was ahead. He tried to compensate for the failure to easily defeat Britain by turning to the East. While the Pact with the Soviet Union was definitely not rock-solid, it could have bought him more time instead of gaining him another huge, capable enemy. He was also too stuck in his ways. If he had listened to his advisors and pulled out of Stalingrad, there is a significant chance the war would not have turned, certainly not by 1943.
And Albert Einstein really saved our lives by beating the nazi's into developing the bomb.
Not really, the Americans were working furiously hard but by the time an atomic bomb was successfully tested it was already mid-July. The European War was over by the first days of May. I don't doubt that the Germans were also working hard to create the bomb but ultimately it didn't matter - the war was over months before it could have come into use. It was obviously the principal factor in winning the Pacific War, but I'm confident they would have won any way, perhaps a few months later, but the deployment of the nuclear bomb wasn't necessary in my opinion.
morrissey

Maybe that's why he is often compared to Stalin, in terms of manipulating people through propaganda.
"...Since the autumn of 1938 and since I have realised that Japan will not go with us unconditionally and that Mussolini is endangered by that nitwit of a King and the treacherous scondrel of a Crown Prince, I decided to go with Stalin. After all, there are only three great statesmen in the world, Stalin, I and Mussolini. Mussolini is the weakest, for he has been able to break the power neither of the crown nor of the Church. Stalin and I are the only ones who visualise the future. So in a few weeks I shall stretch out my hand to Stalin at the common German-Russian frontier and with him undertake to re-distribute the world."
That is from an August 22 1939 private speech. Hitler recognised Stalin's talents and skills in convincing and manipulating his people. They both wanted opposite things, and believed in completely adverse political idelogies. But, in the beginning at least, they were wise enough statesmen to recognise the importance of a Russo-German alliance. Hitler was a dumbard to break it.
Yeah, what Moz just wrote is all correct, especially the "Invading the Soviet Union is what cost him" part and the Hitler/Stalin connection (or, rather, disconnection).
And the Nazis would not have used an atomic bomb on their motherland - they wanted to eradicate more than just the Jews: Catholics, gypsies, and so on. They wouldn't have blown their entire country to nothingness.
The Nazis wanted either expulsion or mass destruction - but not of their country, just on the inferiors.
The development of anti-Semitism in Europe was a disturbing event in world history, although it was not a completely new belief; rather, a precedent of anti-Jew policies had been set as far back as the fourth century by the Catholic Church. Nazi ideology was based on a similar hatred of the Jewish race, which dehumanized Jews by comparing them to parasites and diseases. However, instead of attempting to convert Jews to Nazism or expelling them from Germany, the Nazis called for the complete annihilation of all Jews in Europe. By having an extreme desire for power in Germany and as the leader of the Nazi party, Hitler needed to gain support of the German people in order to implement his plans, which he first outlined in Mein Kampf. In his book, Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany’s social and economic ills and for his country’s defeat in World War I. Hitler used his propaganda to play on the emotions of his crowds, gaining popularity through his aggressive, shouted speeches to the German masses. This popularity led to Hitler being appointed chancellor in the government. As chancellor, he was able to give his Nazi party the sole legislative power in the government, and would eventually declare himself Führer after the death of President von Hindenberg. Hitler’s rise to power in Germany was certainly rapid and without violence, far removed from his failed attempt to overthrow the Munich government a decade earlier. It was through his anti-Semitic beliefs, use of propaganda, and not balking at the opportunity to use his power when he was appointed in the German government, that Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party rose to power.
morrissey
03-02-2006, 04:25 PM
I both agree and disagree with you, heh. I do believe that the German people were willing to just blame the Jews for all their ills rather than trying to find other outlets, but I don't believe that the German masses were fundamentally anti-Semitic. I think Hitler's ardent anti-Semitism was recognised as a flaw in an ideology they desperately wanted to believe in, but accepted as the one cost versus all the benefits Nazism offered them. I'm not trying to excuse their behaviour, and they certainly weren't too fond of the Jews if they were willing to offer them up in exchange for their own benefit, and I don't doubt that through these stirring rallies and massive propaganda initiatives they truly did begin to agree with his Anti-Semitic policies, but I don't believe the German masses truly hated the Jewish race or wished for their extermination or even expulsion. It was just Hitler taking advantage of a weakness and giving them a scapegoat.
Of course there were absolutely people who did fully support and condone Hitler's plan for the Jews. Just as today there are people who ferverently believe that the Blacks or Gays or Jews lay to blame for all America's problems.

Kind of. They are both David E. Kelley productions so the style/wackiness is very similar on both shows. But it is really a spin-off of "the Practice", only wackier. Hitler was not an excellent writer, but he was a terrific orator.
Well he wasn't excellent but he wasn't too bad either. I could only stomach about 100 pages of Mein Kampf (it was hella boring) but there's some quite intricate biblical references in there, which shows he was at least above average.
And if it weren't for his decision to invade the Soviets (coincidentally the same mistake Napoleon Bonaparte made that got him exiled), I'd probably be dead.
Are your family from Europe or do you mean he'd have gazumped the US too?
Hitler recognised Stalin's talents and skills in convincing and manipulating his people.
Saddam Hussein was a big fan of Stalin too, so much so that he based much of his state-control philosophy around Stalin's and even ripped off his square head and moustache.
They both wanted opposite things, and believed in completely adverse political idelogies.
I wouldn't say that, at least not completely. Both were fiercely nationalist, believed thoroughly in total state control. The biggest difference is that while Stalin's was a very progressive ideology, Hitler's was inherently regressive. Funnily enough, it can be argued that Hitler was more of a "real" socialist than Stalin.
The development of anti-Semitism in Europe was a disturbing event in world history, although it was not a completely new belief; rather, a precedent of anti-Jew policies had been set as far back as the fourth century by the Catholic Church.
Oh, far longer than that. Going back to well before Christian times. But the particular strand of anti-semitism that led to the Holocaust and anti-semitism in Germany was a relatively new phenomenon. Historically, anti-semitism was a purely religious matter- Christians and Muslims have always believed that Jews can be saved by submitting the whatever the true religion is. The racial aspect of anti-semitism only really arose during the Enlightenment (of course it had existed before). Sure, it was heavily influenced by the Catholic Church but also by Enlightenment concepts of race and racial superiority. It's funny that the Enlightenment is almost unanimously viewed as this time of great humanitarian and liberal thinking (and it was) but not many people are aware of some of the quite horrific beliefs which also came out of it.
Hitler’s rise to power in Germany was certainly rapid and without violence, far removed from his failed attempt to overthrow the Munich government a decade earlier.
Oh there was plenty of violence, don't you worry. You're right to note that Hitler blamed the Jews for Germany's economic ills and this created a certain hysteria, but there's also the law & order element which, arguably, was the most determining factor in the Nazis' rise to power. Through 1929-1933, the SA, mainly young, disenfranchised men, mostly ex-soldiers like Hitler, would literally incite riots, cause massive crime waves, attack and provoke into fighting communist groupings and Jews and generally create havoc. Hitler then came to the stand and proclaimed his party the party of Law & Order: SVU. Naturally, he was able to turn the violence on and off, so it looked like he was true to his word. Little did people know he was behind it all.
I both agree and disagree with you, heh. I do believe that the German people were willing to just blame the Jews for all their ills rather than trying to find other outlets, but I don't believe that the German masses were fundamentally anti-Semitic.
Oh, but they had no choice. It's either they conformed or get sent to the concentration and/or extermination camps. They didn't have a third option or a fallback plan.
So, people conformed, as they didn't want to die.
There was plenty of violence in Hitler's rise to power.
No, there wasn't. He didn't use force to gain power - he was handed the position of chancellorship on a silver platter. What he did in power was violent, which is what you're pointing out - but before even having a position of power, he wasn't violent.
Hitler’s influence on the German people and his reputation did not go unnoticed by his colleagues in the German government. When von Hindenberg died a year later, Hitler was the unanimous choice for Germany’s next leader. Hitler united his chancellorship position with the presidential position, giving himself the title of Führer. Hitler’s rise to the top of the German government was diplomatic and without violence. He was appointed chancellor by von Pappen, influenced President von Hindenberg to pass the Enabling Act to give the Nazis control of the government, and was unanimously appointed the new leader of Germany upon the president’s death in 1934.
EDIT: I'm talking about before he was thrown in jail for trying to overthrow the Munich government and before he even wrote Mein Kampf.

Right, but if you're fiercely nationalist and believe in the superiority of your own nation, alliances will only take you so far. With his whole lebensraum policy it was clear Hitler had no respect for honouring Russia's territorial rights. Also, I'm not very familiar with Stalin's goals, but his desire to spread to Eastern Europe conflicted with German expansion desires - Poland, Ukraine etc. A partnership or at least non-aggression pact could only go so far, because with it neither could get what they really wanted/needed.
Edit2: Am I missing something? Hitler was a fascist, not socialist...

Oh, but they had no choice. It's either they conformed or get sent to the concentration and/or extermination camps. They didn't have a third option or a fallback plan.
They couldn't have maintained that kind of control without popular assent.
No, there wasn't. He didn't use force to gain power - he was handed the position of chancellorship on a silver platter. What he did in power was violent, which is what you're pointing out - but before even having a position of power, he wasn't violent.
Before and after; there was plenty of violence. Until the Nazis came into power, German cities could become warzones on the toss of a coin; law and order didn't exist in any real sense. Hence the attraction to the party of law and order. You're right that it continued after 1933, but it intensified all through the 20s and early 30s.
Apparently, according to the History channel, Hitler had a plan to invade North America as well.
There was no set plan as far as I know. The furthest he got was theorising in his 'Zweites Buch' which was discovered in the archives during the 60s, in which he envisioned a war between Germany and the US in the 1980s or thereabouts.
Edit2: Am I missing something? Hitler was a fascist, not socialist...
Indeed he was, but National Socialism was a strange philosophy. Basically, despite not being Marxist, the end goal of National Socialism had a lot in common in the communist utopia.
Right, but if you're fiercely nationalist and believe in the superiority of your own nation, alliances will only take you so far. Oh, I'm not saying they were compatible, just that it was often their similarities as much as their differences which put them in opposition :)
Yeah yeah yeah, we're saying the exact same thing. My whole point for the past ten minutes is that Hitler used absolutely no force on his way of becoming chancellor.
Before, when he tried to overthrow the Munich government and was jailed? Yes, violent.
After he became chancellor? Yes, violent.
On his way to becoming chancellor? Not at all.

Not at all.
I'm not sure what you mean  I'm saying that violence was always a strategy of the Nazi Party, just not to achieve direct aims (i.e. they didn't storm parliament or anything.)

Ooh, VH1 has the 100 greatest rock bands. I love this stuff.
I don't want to sound like I'm copying moz by saying this but...
House is the best show on television. Period.
I was also extremely upset that American Idol filled in it's glory/timeslot this week.

House is great. One of the few shows worth watching, along with C.S.I. and old re-runs of Taxi ( Andy Kaufman <3 ).
So, it's 8:38 Thursday night here. I might have something to eat before I go to bed before I go to sleep, but after that, no more food for me until 6:00 Saturday morning. Fasting to support Ethiopian orphans ftw.
If I can find a computer that isn't from the stone age, I might post the occasional updates, since when I do the 30-Hour-Famine I'm up until like four.

Anyways, by looking at my latest journal entry you can find out why Sgt. Peppers has become my most favoritist album right now. :D
Also, I put my iPood in the 360 yesterday, and tried to play it, but it said it could only play the first 100 songs. Well, it only is able to play 7 songs, 6 are In Flames songs, and 1 is an Opeth cover by a user here on musician forums. Any machine intellegent persons know why?
Could be the format extension of the songs on the iPod. Maybe the 360 only recognizes .mp3, but not .m4a.

If you use an iPod, I guess you use iTunes. iTunes has a command called "Convert selection to MP3" or something like that. Should be located somewhere in the Menus (not near an iTunes-Application right now). Should do the trick
Yep, here's how you roll:
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing > [select MP3 encoder] > [select bitrate]

Simply Red snuck in to the top spot on their debut with 49 listens. Tangerine Dream made another solid effort at number 2 on the charts and have moved well clear of M83 in 5th spot on the overall charts.
DJ Shadow declined to comment on his slip in plays. Analysts are blaming an increased usage of the ipod for the decline in his plays. This has prompted a strong cry from the public for songs played on ipods to be counted. A leading figure behind the movement, Bono, had this to say about the debacle "All men are created equal, so why should we discriminate against portable audio devices?" Unfortunately sources surrounding last.fm say the chances of a compromise between the portable audio devices activists and last.fm staff is increasingly unlikely.

Can someone name me bands that seem to have a very dreamlike quality about them? The best embodiment of this I can think of is Opeth. That band writes very creative stuff and seems to be miles ahead of other bands in creativity. Their music ranges from brutal to beautiful and seems very rich in imagery and a somewhat thought-provoking sound that is hard to explain.

OK, this is just annoying me today so here's a free grammar lesson.
When you're putting a word into the plural, you don't even use an apostraphe.
Example: Labels (not Label's); Bags (not Bag's)
The same is true for acronyms and decades.
Example: CDs (not CD's); 1990s (not 1990's)
The time you do use an apostraphe is when the word is denoting possession.
Example: Spat's latest shitty glam review; Kripes' whinefest
Use it people.
pulseczar
03-06-2006, 08:48 PM
Also, it's definite or definitely, there is no 'a'. Around 50% of the users here make fools of themselves with that mistake.
Now let's combine what we learned today:
Spat's latest shitty glam review will be a definite target of Kripes' whinefest.

It's all good, they'll be made up in the end because teachers are supposed to adjust their gradebooks accordingly. Plus, it's just progress reports: teachers are habitually lazy in fixing their gradebooks just for progress reports, haha.

Jom, this is the final grade, if i don't pick this thing up with my final exam. I am studying my *** off. So far, the only real trouble i have is Quadratic Functions and Equations. Everything else is simple.
Quadratic funcions are a bitch. I had to do those my entire sophomore year. It's easy to just use it like a formula, but deriving it is really hard.

Math is just unbelievably hared for me, it's just a total mental block.
I had quite a funny conversation while waiting for the bus today after school. My friend asked me if that was my real hair color, and I said "Yeah, it's naturally a very dark brown", to which he replied "Brown? Your hair is blacker than Wesley Snipes!"
We both then collapsed into fits of laughter.

Wesley Snipes has the best quotes.
Dracula: "Are you ready to die Blade?"
Blade: "I was born ready mutha ****a'"

I'm a retard at Math, it took me so long to get good grades in it.

How would you recommend beginning a 4 page biography? Jumping right into it (birth, childhood, etc.), a small blurb on the person's life/career, or what? I'm Kurt Vonnegut, it's due at the end of the month though, so don't worry.

No no no, your teacher is getting it wrong then. Excused absences DO NOT IMPACT YOUR GRADE. AT ALL.
She will adjust it at the end - if not, then you have to go to the head of the department and explain your situation.
You should not get a 58% in a math course due to excused absences, and even if you aced your final, you'd get, what, a low C? That's not right.
EDIT: Er, you'll have to take it to your assistant principal or primary principal if your teacher doesn't fix it.
Oh, and if you still need help, just yell at me. I'm usually hiding out around here anyway. Plus, Gav and others won't deny my mad math skillz.

Crap I was hoping no one would ask me. :p
It is pretty flexible, but personally I would start off with precisely what every paper should begin with - an introduction. Basically you summarise what you will be talking about in your paper. So for Vonnegut, you could just say something like:
"He was a satirist and author, devoted humanist, and graphic artist. Vonnegut has gained prominence for his sardonic and fiercely political analysis of American post-war society, ably reflected in his unique brand of science fiction." From there on you can launch into his childhood/early years/schooling, first works, probably devote a whole paragraph to Slaughterhouse-Five and another to whatever other book he's famous for, then go through to his later years, death, and legacy and all the crap I touched on in the "introduction". (Of course I don't know anything about Vonnegut, but this should give you a general idea of how to approach it).
edit: reading this over it seems I suck at essay tips too :upset:

Hahaha, that intro made it seem like you did know about him. Thanks a lot, I'll probably do what you suggested. Now I must finish reading his autobiography.

Wikipedia for the win, haha.
Let me know how it turns out, if you want I can try to proofread it before you submit it, if that will help you.

It's all good, they'll be made up in the end because teachers are supposed to adjust their gradebooks accordingly. Plus, it's just progress reports: teachers are habitually lazy in fixing their gradebooks just for progress reports, haha.
And if you guys need any help with math, just yell at me here and I'd be glad to sign on and help you guys out. This whole week I've been helping my brother in geometry (rectangles, rhombi, etc.) because it wasn't clicking for him, and now he's got it (as far as I know).
So yeah, I have no problem with helping you guys out or explaining anything if you need it :)
But, uh, if you need German or someone to write a politics essay for you, see the other three mods. In terms of photography, holla at yo boy mx. Haha.
Meh, I can get it in my head, and know what to do, but when it comes to writing it out, I phailurez. :(
What is it in geometry that you're working on right now? Maybe if I can offer a strategy for whatever it is you're doing that you haven't seen before, maybe that will help make things click for you and you won't freeze up.
Do you freeze up on all exams, or just in math?

Hopefully not proofs. Those things blow.
Yeah, proofs suck. Whenever I got stuck on a proof, I would just write the reflexive property in the blanks.
Never got marked wrong because I filled in the blanks and ID'd it correctly, but it wasn't the correct answer, either.
Then again, this was, what, seven years ago? I can't remember my exact tests word-for-word anymore from back then.

Were you addressing me?
If not, too bad, because I'm going to answer anyway.
You want to go into Music Production, but your two options are as follows:
Digital Design | Media Production
Okay, let's think about this for a bit.
Music Production and Media Production have something in common, yes? Okay. And it can be safely assumed that Music is a type of Media, yes?
What is digital design going to do for you? Nothing for music.
In the Media class, you can at least work with all sorts of different media: video, sound, both, etc.
And plus, you will work on the Production aspect. In the very least, it will give you some Production background for when you go to higher learning.
Seems like a no-brainer. To me, anyway. Unless you want to make digital graphics or something.

I will do anything for someone to give me all the bonus songs on release.
Jom: Heh, I wish I went to this thread this sooner. I finished my work for the week now, but the chapter is over, and I don't know what we'll be learning next. If I have trouble with it I'll hit you up here for help, thanks.
Edit: About exams: I always am the last to finish in the class on exams when I take them, but I usually do good.

Actually, I usually make 100% on all English tests. For the Final Semester 1 Test last year I got a 100%.

That's interesting, because every so often you'll write something with absolutely horrible grammar.
My English class is hard. :( </3 AP literature.

I know I have pretty bad grammar, but that really has nothing to do with my English class. All we do are projects, and read books. :)
Yet I managed to make a D in there last year...
