Well we passed the month point for the new Harry Potter movie. So, to celebrate the countdown I started up an Appreciation thread. Here we will discuss all things related to the movie. New announcements, screenshots, opinions, etc... As well we will partake in Trivia and all things Harry Potter related; including book, games, actors, etc... One rule and that is NO SPAM-neg rep. results. Let's keep it civilized this time.

So, I have seen a couple of trailers for the movie as well as some posters. I am a little scared right now. I am forming double opinions. The movie looks like it will be exciting, but, honestly... have you seen Mad Eye? His eye is a damn patch! Sirius dosen't come out a fire, he comes out of embers. Also, the movie is way too dark, which I think is the biggest flaw. They went too much with the PoA theme and didn't realize that this was a lighter book (up untill the end).

The History Behind HBP

For all you n00bs to GoF out there, I, the great and admirable Scoot, have come to the rescue.

You probably have no idea what the hell one of us is talking about when we mention HBP. You could infer it means “Half Blood Prince”, which in fact it does. But what you don’t know is the amount of history that goes with it.

The thread, titled The Half Blood Prince, was originally created by Emin, or Cybergasm. He made the thread so he and a few others could discuss the upcoming 6th Harry Potter book, titled The Half Blood Prince. He did not expect that a large number of people would, in fact, create one of the largest threads around the Pit, with over 6,000 posts.

After a while, things started to get rough for Emin and his new gang of followers. Many people made fun of them and told them that Harry Potter wasn’t for people over 13. He stood it out, and eventually the spammers kept getting fewer and fewer until rarely anyone spammed the thread. And when they did, they just ripped them to shreds.

I arrived at the thread before Tomlinson did, and after poisontheflag did. It was about 250 posts in total, growing rapidly. I wasn’t treated any different than any other user, and eventually others such as BID (Tillus) and stinkydink (Airgasm) joined. At this point the book’s release was still coming, and there were lots to talk about. Tomlinson and I created a fictional Harry Potter nerd, named Will. He made all of us laugh with his nerdy quotes.

Ex. He would pay someone to swim in a tub of books.

However, one evil bastard stands out among them all. Rothmans, Rothmans, ROTHMANS! He ruined the ending of HBP for numerous users after posting one of the final paragraphs of the story. Most of us didn’t believe it, but after we had read the book we found it to be true.

After HBP was old news, the thread started to slump. The regular users started leaving, and tension became high. We’ll never forget how Zack (poisontheflag) tried to e-kill Kendall (Airgasm) the day he nearly lost his mind.

In a last ditch attempt to spice up the thread, Emin (or at least I think it was him, sorry to whoever it may have been) came up with the idea for a trivia contest. I was the official scorekeeper and question asker for the contest. It turned out very well, and Zack (even though we never officially finished) was crowned Champion. Of course, I could still kick his *** if I wanted to

Unfortunately, the thread became a spam fest. People came in out of nowhere to make our lives miserable, and nearly everyone left. It became a deserted failure as a thread. SubtleDagger thought there had to be something done and not only closed it, but he deleted it, meaning everyone lost every post they had in that thread. Thanks, Burt! :-D

This ended HBP’s glorious reign at the top of the Pit. The vets were forced to go our separate ways, and we rarely saw each other outside the thread. Emin and I were talking and I proposed the idea of making a new thread. He agreed, and the GoF thread was created.

So, now you know the history behind HBP.

To help all you Harry Potter fans that are just now joining this magnificent thread, I have decided to make a list that teaches you a bit about all the regular posters in this thread.

The thread starter is Emin, whose usertitle is Cybergasm. He's basically the "father" of the thread, and keeps spammers out, and us on topic. He has started a grand total of 4 Harry Potter threads to date (including this one) and the other three have been deleted. He's the one who has read the Harry Potter series the most, 15-16 on average for each book, besides HBP of course. He lives in Chicago Illinois and is currently x years of age.

The most common person you will find in this thread and has the most posts Zack. His username is poisontheflag, and was recently dubbed "The Harry Potter Tank" by Matt (Pazz_10) for his knowledge of trivia. He's been here since the start of HBP, and the first page of this great thread. He is currently 14 years of age, and lives in the beautiful city of Toronto Canada.

Scoot's real name is Scott. He posted extreme amounts in HBP and is currently in second for postcount in GoF. He is currently one of our most loyal, and valued member of our Harry Potter family. He is one of the best at trivia, and was the "Quiz Master" (Question asker) in HBP's legendary tournament. He is 15 years old, and lives in Vancouver Canada.

Ian is a name you will hear mentioned a lot in this thread. He had by far the most posts in the legendary HBP totaling over 1,200. He's 14 years old, and lives in White Bear, Minnesota. He doesn't post often in this thread. We all seem to think he disappears for short periods of time. Rumours have spread that he has been in New York, and others that he's bored of MX and needs time to be with his girlfriend.

Mitch is a man who has used two different usernames in this thread and in HBP. He started off in HBP under the alias born_in_darkness. He is now known as Tillius. He often refers to himself as the worst at trivia, yet he is a major Harry Potter fan. Right now, he is 16 years old and no one is quite sure of his where-abouts.

Kendal was a major poster in HBP under the name stinkydink. He has now changed his name to Airgasm, and doesn't post nearly as much as he did before. He is a big fan of Harry Potter but has an awful memory for facts and dates from the books, which leaves him as an easy target for Zack to poke fun at. He is 19 also, and lives in Texas.

Matt is someone who delved into the deeps of HBP near the end of its existence. He didn't post often but made his opinions heard. He has now moved himself into the top 5 posters in GoF and knows more than the average person about the books. He is 15 years of age and lives in Bowmanville Ontario.

PinkFloydFan082692 is a mystery wrapped in an enigma; we don't even know his name. All we really know about him is that he is 14, "Really mature for his age", is Zepplinfan2k3's (permanent_solution, Vince) brother, and double posts a lot. He just joined HBP for the trivia contest and got slaughtered by Zack first round. He tries his hardest to post a lot, but has a very short temper and always assumes people are having a go at him, which makes him liked by only a few.

Pastorius is 18 years old and lives in England. His name is Sam, and some of us like to call him Samuel. He dropped by once in awhile in HBP but never really committed himself. He's really shown us that he likes HP in this thread, and doesn't like it when we spam. He's another one like Emin in a sense that he always wants to stay on topic.

Simon_Thats_All, MAthiAS, i_am_zombie_jesus, and thedeadwalk! are all former posters from HBP who haven't really continued their old ways in GoF. Simon has a good reason, he lives in Australia therefore is always out of whack time zone wise. MAthiAS only really stops in when we're talking about Emma Watson. We couldn't tell you anything about the other two though.

Some other honourable mentions of people in this thread, but were almost or were non-existent in HBP are: animepunk333, tumples, Magical_Mystery_Tour, mutant!, HazMatBlue, and SaxyFROgirl. We all expect these posters to have a bright future in the thread!

You know what's ****ing gay? The fact that John Williams isn't doing the score. I was really hoping he would do all seven, so that I could examine his development of the music.

And the trailers look OK, but it seems sort of dark. The book has it's light moments, and the movie will need them as well in order to be good.

They also need to be careful not to skip straight to the action, and leave out the every day life aspect that's present in the books. It's a shame that it is pretty much guarunteed that they will though, so I'm not expecting to really enjoy it too much.

Honestly, Mad Eye's eye has ruined the film for me already, and I haven't even seen it (the film, not his eye) In this day and age, why can't we just CGI his eye in. It's meant to be slightly larger than the other and electric blue, just a normal eye but big and blue! Not some gay patch!

EDIT: I just went onto the site, and it's worse than I thought. I always imagined him with the white of his eye replaced by a bright blue, not a normal big eye. That is SO rubbish, who the hell cast him? He's not half as grizzled as he should be.

I don't see why everyone loves POA, there's almost no action in the whole book... IMO COS is wayyyyy better because of the big mystery and how everything eventually intertwines. Nothing in that book happens without reason. In POA they still have the mystery, but you don't know that there is a mystery until the giant plot twist at the end.

Nothing in that book happens without reason. In POA they still have the mystery, but you don't know that there is a mystery until the giant plot twist at the end.

'Sup thread? Sorry I was a little slow on the uptake. I haven't read the whole thread, but I'll chip in my 2 cents about the upcoming movie:

I honestly can't wait! I don't think it hits Australian cinemas 'til early December though :( I think it will be a really good movie, but an unsatisfactory book-to-movie transition... If you understand me. As I found with PoA, I loved the movie, but there were obvious and often fairly important plot points missed out. I think this film will end up the same way; a great film in it's own right, but it will miss a lot of plot lines from the book. In my opinion GoF had the most activity out of all the books to date, so it was always going to be a struggle to make it in to a reasonable length film.

Harry Potter is made by the everyday chapters in my opinion. That's why I liked HBP so much, so much of it was Hogwarts life.

i'm sooo excited about the film. it is going to be awesome although i reckon that they will miss out loads of information cos the book is sooo long and its all got to fit into aroud 2 hrs. i cant wait though cos GOF is one of my faves and it has got loads of action in it like the beginning in the quidditch world cup, then the triwizard events and then the battle scene at the end. :)

i'm so glad they didnt decide to do it in 2 parts released a few months apart. that was a rumour going round and that so would have spoilt it.

the hard part now is going to convince my bf to come to the cinema with me to see it cos he's not much of a fan.:upset: i'm trying to force him to read all the books. he read the first one and was like 'meh' but he doesnt get that although the 1st one was important as it explains everything, the rest are soo much better.

I don't see why they absolutely HAVE to tie it up in around 2 hours. Look at LOTR.
