Me and some friends were playin the other day and we were playing the dave matthews version of dylans watchtower, the solo for it is of Am-G-F progression what scales would I use to improvise a solo to go along with the song?

A minor would probably work better, although they have the same notes in.

What about the Am penatonic scale, im very familiar with that?

there is no one scale u can use throught that if u use C major it wont work. cuz in the Am7 chord the C major would be playing a f nat. instead of f#, and same in the G chord, for the F there is a Bb and in C major its a B nat. so use C major, but in those chords replace those notes in

I think you are thinking in terms of tonic centers, and not in terms of chords. Am7-G-F is completely diatonic in C/Am.
