I've decided that later tonight, I'm going to go rent some zombie movies. I'm aiming for not getting the Romero movies, as I've already seen them. I looked through Pete's thread about nasties and shockers, but most of them are just violent films and not zombie films. I know a lot of you are zombie movie fans, so does anyone have recommendations of good ones? Extremely cheezy ones are acceptable too.

Thanks. :thumb:

You can't go wrong with The Evil Dead, classic horror zombie flick. Another great horror from that era is The Thing, not a zombie film but still a great movie.

I've got The Evil Dead on my computer, also...a random prequel apparently called "Within the Woods", pretty scary, actually :-/

Good zombie movies:

Deadalive (Braindead) - Peter Jackson
Dead and Breakfast
Return of the living dead Either one or 2
28 Days later (English Film)
Undead (Australian Zombie Film)

Just a few movies, most of them are pretty well heard of. If you want any more just ask

Army of Darkness (it has zombies in it!).
Dawn of the Dead - original or remake (suprised nobody mentioned that).
Evil Dead
Braindead (Dead Alive)

Evil Dead sounds like the best choice if you're not going for Romero. It's awesome. Army of Darkness was also mentioned. It isn't really a zombie movie, but it's still really badass.

Shaun of the Dead is also a good one. Kinda a spoof of zombie movies, but still very zombie movie-ish. It's very funny too.

technically not a zombie movie. more of an apocolyptic end of days movie.

If you come across Zombie High, be warned, they're not the undead zombies; though, it's still cheesy, and pretty funny. Also, avoid Zombies vs. Vampires. There's hardly any versus, and the movie sucks balls.

There really is a scarcity in good zombie movies outside of Romero's and the Return of... (excluding everything after the second one) series. I guess the best would be Zombi 2 (with a great zombie v. shark scene), after that, the list gets bad fast. One I haven't seen, but look forward to, is I, Zombie, it's about a guy who's bitten by a zombie then isolates himself, chronicling his transformation into undeath.

I really need to see more zombie movies. Maybe closer to Halloween we can have a proper zombie thread. Or, do a zombie list like the gore and shocker one.

What about zombies isn't an apocalyptic end of days? Unless you're just referring to them not being undead, in which case, that's not the only kind of zombie, and indeed, not even the original kind.

Is it like a Zombie High School? And if they're not undead, what are they? Voodoo zombies?

I haven't watched ED yet, but I think I'm going to with some friends tomorrow.

At Best Buy, they had all of the Zombie movies. The first one, a special edition second one, and then a pack with 3, 4, and 5 for like $15. I need to get them. But I don't want to watch the first one because it has that eye gouging scene. Eyes are the main things that make me queasy.

I've seen the first ROTLD. Not the second though. I've heard the others in the series suck.

House of the Dead is horrendous. All you need to know is: Uwe Boll. That man can't make a good movie to save his life. It actually splices in clips of the game during the movie, and when some of the characters die, the camera does a nice panarama around them as blood pours down the screen.

Though, House of the Dead does hold honor to being the only movie to showcase zombie fencing. That's got to be worth something (but, can in no way outshine Kung Fu from Beyond the Grave (this wins just by title alone)).

Army of Darkness is in a different vein than the first two Evil Dead, which is probably why it warrants a different title. You may not have seen enough to gather this, but Ash ends up being an ***-kicking, one-liner spewing, boomstick-toting killer. This develops in the second one, and blossoms in Army... If a man going back in time, with his car, and using nothing but a shotgun and some college-fed intellect, emboldened by his chemistry book, taking on an army of the dead, led by his evil twin with plenty of zany antics to go around sounds like a good time, check it out. Oh, yeah, he's got a chainsaw for a right hand (that's explained in the second).

If you end up seeing, and liking, Army of Darkness, give the second one a try.

PS: Oh, did you watch far enough into it to see the woman get raped by the woods?

What's that Zombie movie, where the VHS cover shows some decayed face of a zombie, that's missing an eye, worms and maggots are crawlilng out of the socket? I thought it was called "Zombie" or "Zombi". I can't find it on IMDB. But yeah I remember wanting to rent that movie when I was younger but my mom wouldn't let us rent it.

The reason for the confusion, is that Dawn of the Dead was released in Italy as Zombi, and the makers wanted to cash in on the success.

I didn't like Slither much. When the slugs went into the mouths of their victims, they turned into zombie-ish things that spit acid at people. They only shot one zombie in the head, and that was really the only thing that happened with them. They could talk too, which was lame.
