Radiobass81
10-20-2005, 06:06 PM
This is the only Ibanez I would personally buy. Although it does have cheap body woods (basswood), the electronics (Seymour Duncan) give the bass an amazing tone (IMO). One of the nicest sounding basses I've played. Feel-wise, it was good, and it looked gorgeous, although the body was a bit bizarre.

The only reason I haven't bought it yet is because of the body. It's cheap, and I always think they feel fragile...

Hmm.

I'm really not sure why everyone dislikes basswood anymore. I used to be that way, too, but I've now reached the conclusion that, when used properly, it's just as good as any other body wood.

Alder was also seen in the same light as basswood years ago, if I have my facts straight, but it's not a bad wood by any means. Know what I mean?

Unless the electronics make up for it, it gives a very thin tone, which is not appealing to most.

In all seriousness, I have been considering selling it.

Why, you may ask? It hurts to play. My hands aren't REALLY small or anything, but definitely not big by any means. The 35" scale and playing in perfect position really hurts my wrist. I've waited a couple months and I really haven't gotten over it.

It's really sad, I love this bass. Aside from the pain, it feels and sounds perfect. I can go from a piano like tone, to a growl that would make Warwick cry. And it's pretty... :upset:

I don't use the Low B too much, but I abuse the high C.

Hey guys

I'm looking for a larger strap, and I was wondering if there are any site whre you can have a look at them?

I'm after about 4 or 5 inches...how much do these usually cost?

do you mean 4 or 5" wide?

well, musiciansfriendhas alot of straps. I actually reccomend the Neotech bass strap. It's padded, and can get long enough for me at least, and it only costs 19.96 (USD). I've had it for about 2 years and it's still in great shape.

link:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=bass/s=accessories/search/detail/base_pid/367504/

some people say it doesn't go low enough, but because I play my bass a little bit higher, it doesn't give me a problem. And the padding doesn't bother your shoulders at all, I have played with my bass for about 5 hours one day and no problems.

hope that helps :thumb:

Yes, six string Quantum.

I don't use the Low B too much, but I abuse the high C.

I'd like two Skjold custom 4's on fretted the other fretless. And then a Modulus VJ4, Nordstrand pup, and either Aggie OBP-3 preamp, or J-Retro.

Im essentially making myself one of those vj4's.

Well, it was standard P-bass copy. I've already swapped out the P-pup with a DiMarzio Model P and then I had a DiMarzio Model J routed into the bridge position. I'm gonna change the tuners, the nut, the bridge, repaint the body and get an new pickguard for it. The overall construction is incredibly solid, so I don't need a new neck or anything.
