on power tab the program? yes there is... im trying to remember how... um... oh ya go to the beg. of the song where there should be a pic of a quarter not, click on it and you set your tempo and time signature, if theres no little icon lit up on the menu bar at the begginning, then click on the note on the menu bar and u can set the tempo and time signature

In case you need to be shown where to click and all that:
... Try to play along with the playback. If you can't, move the little blue cursor to the start of the piece (or to the particular section you wish to slow down. Have a look around to see if there are any changes of the time signature throughout the song/piece - you might have to change those too), click the time signature button (circled in blue on http://tdknights.com/trea/ptab.JPG) and slow the timing down. If there is already a signature there, you'll have to click twice; once to remove, another to add a new time. If there is no time signature there, the default is 120bpm.
100bpm is slower than 120bpm and so forth.
Play along with the slower midi then once you master it at a slow speed, gradually build it up until you reach the right speed...

This is the first ive heard of power tab, am i right in guessing that it plays a song (any song) and can slow it down without loosing any pitch? cause that would be bl**dy brilliant.
And if it does, is it freeware or do you have to buy it?

No.
Powertab is a tab editor and viewer. You can download tabs and it will play them for you so you can hear how it sounds.
Windows Media Player will slow or speed up songs (mp3s for instance) if that's what you are looking for.

It's a freeware program taht you can get from http://www.power-tab.net. You download the files for songs from http://www.powertabs.net.
The thing is, the playback is generated by what's written on the tab using midi - it's a kind of computer generated music form. So it's not the actual sound file of the song, but rather, a representation of what is written in the tab. Hence, when you're slowing it down, it doesn't alter the pitch because it's not in the typical wav of mp3 etc format.
Sorry if that's a bit rushed; gotta go.

But yes its free, and you can slow down songs. Or speed them up in case you want a challenge. Its also a useful metronome for the cheap ones among us.
