I just picked up a brand-new Washburn Taurus 4 String at my local little music shop. Any others here ever play one of these? Just looking for any thoughts on it. It plays very smoothe, very nice grunge at the low end. I've also noticed, it's incredible for slapping.

Hey man, that looks pretty cool! Congrats! Glad to see it's holding up well for you. :D
Washburns make great beginner basses. I've never played that one, but it looks pretty cool.

Well, its definately a step-up from my old Infinity 5-String I used to play (which, btw, I am almost completely sure was just an Ibanez knockoff or something to that extent). Beginner basses eh? I never knew that. If this is a beginner bass, I sure wish I'd had this when I'd started :D

^ We all wish we had Washburns when we started...or Warwicks...or Alembics. :p
Definitely post some pics/sound clips of your bass if you get a chance, man.

Here's a little pic, in all it's glory. I'll try to put on some sound clips tommorow, as it's rather late here.

washburns are great if a little unpredictable. Never would i buy one online. Some of the best basses i've played are the higher end washburns but some of the worst are higher end washburns of the exact same model.
Haven't tried a taurus though but i hear good things about them. Glad you enjoy
thats a very nice looking bass (just saw the pic sorry about the double post)

It looks like a Schecter Stilleto that's been over-inflated.
It also has a huge phallus sticking out the top

I played one of their old discontinued six strings in a music shop. It was like hawt finger sex. All it needed was a new set of strings. I went into the shop the next day to buy it and it was gone
Lesson? Always carry atleast 500 dollars of US currency with you at all times.
It was worth about 2500 too :(

I have a question if a neck through guitar's neck gets messed up is it possible to get fixed?

I put a deposit on one of these amazing for the price guitars last Saturday. Here's info for those interested.
Thru neck made of diferent laminates but I don't know what they are. Medium thickness with rosewood fingerboard wich is quite a bit easier than the crappy Samick I've got. The dots are off-center .24 frets 34". Good cutaway.
Stained Mahogany body (the guy said it was mahogany and teak or something) not that heavy but around average and it's not too big either huge.
Washburn ABT Pickups that give quite a good range for a passive.
Looks beautiful but the colours seem to vary quite a bit to the ones in the pics. (the one I'm getting is quite a bit lighter coloured than the one on the website and in the pics.)
Really long guarantee I think.:thumb:

I suppose I'd violate the guarentee if I put some EMGs in it?

Funnily enough, that's how the fretboard came. It's not really highly polished, I dunno if it's supposed to be like that or if they just skimped at the factory

I like those basses overall, but I cant stand the chrome hardware on them.

Ive played that exact bass, and i can tell you right now its damned good for the price! Plays really nicely, great woods and so forth.
But yes, i reckon some Dimarzio Ultra Jazzes would be awesome in that thing.
Great bass overall. Good purchase :)

Does it still sound good to slap with even with out active pick ups?

yeah punkbass have you thought about upgrading some of the stuff on there.

Purple Alien, the slap tone is pretty nice, the bass has a nice growl to it, but it would definately be improved out of sight with the addition of active pickups.
eguitaranlead, I've thought about upgrading the p-ups, got a quote from a luthier for some active EMG's and it'd be about $600 AUD including installation. However I'm currently saving money for a trip to India at the end of the year, and I wanna get a nice amp/head combination before any upgrades.

i personally think washburn is a complet wast of money, I think they are ugly and to blan sounding. But thats just my two cents
That washburn is so hott.
I enjoy washburn sounds. Thick, bland and juicy. Good fretless tone.
As for their fretted tone? eh, not so much.

I have a Washburn myself, and I'm really surprised at the quality, considering it only cost me about $300 Canadian. It's served me well for almost two years. I like the sound the Taurus gets, although I really don't like the body shape. That top horn just really annoys me. But yeah, Washburns are about all my local shop stocks.

I like washburn's low end models, very good for the price, not massive amounts of tonal variety but the tones they do provide are top notch
