Yeah, they've come up time and time again, but it's hard to find many with some real world experience with them.

I'm pretty sure that they're pretty high-end, so I guess that's why you don't hear much, most people can't afford them.

I think there are a few of them on talkbass, but I don't believe they're actually mass produced, so that limits their quality. More of a order thing, you know?

I saw the bassist of Hella using a Philjones amp with a 8x9 and a 12x9 and a Kubiki. I couldn't really hear him though, which made me sad, because I'm sure that was a kickass tone he had

Phil Jones makes this stuff in China and has had so much trouble with it only a few stores have stuck with him on it. Now he has to sell it direct....much to the thrill of the few stores ;-)

Many are under the impression it is USA made. It is far from that. Contact some of the people that have reviewed the equipment and you will find many of them don't have their PJB stuff any more even though their rave reviews still live on the internet.

There have been so many failed amplifiers even among his "endorsers" (some even starting small fires I have been told) that at one point the company almost went belly up like several other of his ventures.

There are a few "ringer" reviewers out there, but they will be found out in time.

The idea of the small speakers is great, but it will take a big name company to knock the idea off with some decent quality amplification to keep it alive.

I don't see PJB in business for the long haul.

Anybody else think the "Jay M. Lewis" reviews you see on most of the sites may have been written by Phil Jones himself?

Don't take my word for it....find out for yourself why he is not with any of the companies he has worked for including the ones he "founded" himself......

Whatever happened with Platinum Audio anyway?

Remember-these amps and speakers are made in CHINA. All Chinese parts, labor and quality control. Kinda like a cheap clock radio.........

OH just because he loves that trebely puchy sound.

I think someone told me he used to use SWR 8X8 but i don't know how relaible that info is.

Bass guitar Magazine said that the breifcase was a fairly good amp, just it lacks in volume.

wait, when did Tryxx become a mod?

I became one yesterday because Jorge needed a break.

i never heard anybody say anything bad about them. i wanted a six-pak really bad but now u have stopped me. please give some proof why i shouldn't get one, like links to the articles or something. on harmony-central and other reviews ive never seen anybody with problems. thanx for any help.

Radio stepped down as a mod which is why he only has 4 stars. It's the same with Subcontra(BassVirtuoso).

Well I can PROVE to you they are made in China. Go buy one and look at the MADE IN CHINA sticker. All of his junk is made in China, his speakers, his amps, his R&D and engineering team, his whole operation is in China.

Now go do your own research and ask all of the people who have reviewed them for their personal opinion. Chances are you will get Phil Jones half the time anyway, or a "ringer" reviewer he bribed to write a review. Go to the NAMM show and see for yourself....see what the people say as they walk away after his demo amps blow up in the booth.

They have had MAJOR design and quality issues on these amps. By far the briefcase is the best hands down no question asked. BUT it is still cheap chinese made flawed engineering low end junk. It is just really cool really unique junk. Go to his website and see that he has hired Randy Sloan to try and de bug the design flaws.....when Randy gets finished with him go ask Randy yourself what he has seen. I am sure he will tell you once he finds out how business is done with this company unless he signed a confidentiality agreement.

I have it on good authority that a major player in the amp world is coming out with their own small driver version of a bass amp.....that might be the product you want to wait for.

As far as links or proof.....just do your homework. You WILL find a guy that had one of these amps cut out or quit working or just cause too many problems to keep. That is the guy you will believe....the one you find yourself, not the one I point you to.

Harmony Central WILL NOT publish overly harsh negative reviews....I question that sites true intentions all the time. Most people that post there want to re-afirm their purchase anyway and convince themselves they bought the right product....very few want to say they made a mistake and bought crap.

Time will tell on these issues......

the whole thread is only 4 weeks old.....

O well....

No offense, but 4 weeks constitutes as pretty old, but seeing how productive your post is, I'll let it slide. :thumb:

Though, the testimonials from http://www.talkbass.com seem fairly positive.

not to re-bump an old re-bumped thread, but I have the briefcase thing and it's a pretty rad little amp. it handles the low b and F# strings and the sound is really good. Haven't played his other amps, and I'm aware his stuff is made in china. I wouldn't mind a second briefcase for doing stereo shows out on street corners.

conklin sidewinders for the 9's.
for the 11s - la bella and fodera strings (both basses have extra long scale 40+ including the bridge which needs special strings).

The Briefcase is by far his best amp as I admitted to earlier....they run about 50-50 on problems from what I have heard.

The rest are a sad sad story. The first shipments almost had to be scrapped.

The fixes suggested for the next bunch were shoddy patch jobs that shocked dealers and consumers. Many amps were sent back several times with no satisfaction.

That was the main thrust of my response to this post....Made, designed and engineered in China (yuk:lol: ), problem ridden, over hyped, companies future questionable for warranty or repair parts, but a very neat idea.

Oh and by the way, a lot of those guys on talk bass forum don't even have there PJB crap anymore. Many had problems after they wrote the reviews and after a few exchanges with the same problems occuring (or new ones) they sent them back for good. BUT they never seem to edit their posts to indicate this....after several times hearing the same story I don't need to look for any more proof. Gather your own proof before you lay down that kind of money for an amp.

That is all.

It seems the truth is rising to the surface over at talkbass as well......

Their wishfull thinking that these issues will get worked out is unfounded in my opinion.

BTW, even on the PJB website they are starting to post "incompatibility issues" in yellow warning signs with some types of cables....and they are disclaiming they will not warranty amps damaged by this sort of thing.....wonder what the next one will disclaim.....

I smell a buck being passed.

Also notice that the "warning" is in CHINESE !!!  You need to open the Microsoft translator to read it.......

Oh well.....free enterprise I guess.....
