i need help picking out a distortion pedal. I have a Fendere 212rFM amp and i play and epiphone les paul. I like to play a lot of new types of music like Senses fail and hawthrone heights. I had someone recommend a English Muffin distortion pedal. I was curious to see if any one has any other input on what i should get. thanx

if you don't have a lot of money the boss ds-1 or ds-2 is good.

I actually dislike the DS-1. Sounds too harsh and thin. But then again, I have yet to find a distortion pedal I really liked . . . I mainly play clean anyways.
I was planning to start a thread on this, and still may, but since it fits into this one . . . what does everyone thing about the Danelecto FAB Distortion? The plastic one that sells for $15.
I recently was going a gig where the amp provided didnt have a lead channel . . . and so I picked one of these up in a hurry, thinking it would get me through the gig with very little money wasted . . . and I was pleasantly surprised. I actually like it better than the DS-1. I wouldnt pit it against $100 pedals, but it seems like a steal at $15. Anyone else tried it?

Damage Control - Demonizer
or
Mesa V-Twin
*drools*
Radial Tonebone Hot British or Classic.
The Hot British has godly metal tones.

Zakk Wylde OD.
Those don't distort much at all, they just thicken tone/boost.

Throw it on top of the OD channel on the amp then.
Or just get an OD-20.

For that type of distortion a DS won't cut it, I'd say go for the digi uber metal or mt-2 unless you want something really nice then go with a demonizer or v twin

the english muff'n is the preamp of a marshall plexi with an added gain stage. well it basically is. i myself have an electro harmonix lpb 2ube, and while its not actually for distortion, i use it for that, and it gets my my vintage led zeppelin sound.

some of you suggested the MT-2 by boss. ive already got that pedal and its too much distortion. i need something a little less then that. im trying to get the sound of a tube rectifier with out actually buying one. im in college and im trying to start this badn so i have no money what so ever.

I've owned one of those and it is the muddiest thing I've ever played, you can hardly even tell the different notes apart, and 0 versatility. The only time I'd use one would be for Death Metal or something, definitely not SF or HH.
If you want an inexpensive pedal I'd get an OS-2, very versatile, good sound. I still use it on occasion and I have an El Diablo and a Hot British. The OS-2 a great pedal if you're on a budget.
If you want a top of the line pedal I'd check out something with a pre amp tube in it. You can definitely hear the difference. There's my 2 cents.
