There was a school thread, so I wanted to see what you guys play on in your drum lesson.
Mine has 2 kits, an old Yamaha and a Sonor Force 2003. They both sound great. The Yamaha is equipped with B8 Pros, which don't sound that bad actually. The 2003 has Sabian AA hats and crashes and an XS20 ride.

well, there are 2 sets in my teachers room, i'm not sure what kit his is, but i know it is mapex. the one i get to use is a Mapex V series i think in fusion sizes, Sabian AAmedium 17'' crash, and a 20'' B8 Pro ride, and 14'' sabian hats, not sure of the series. i belive he has a 16'' zil. A crash, 14'' amir hats, and i'm not sure of the ride. good sets both of them

My teacher uses this gretsch renown maple
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b26/one_beat/P9270278.jpg
But e only has an AAX set (Hats, cras and ride) set up in lessons.
I play on a Gretsch Catalina Birch which I nearly brought but i'm glad i didnt, thats one dodgy kit. With sabian PRO cymbals. The crash is painfully bright and I HAVE to choke or i get a headache. not bad really, but the kits not tuned to well.

Ancient 60's Ludwig bass with stock heads, mismatched toms that have been coloured with magic marker, and a cannon snare.
Unknown pedal, bent TKO high hat stand, and Dixon cymbal stands.
B8 hats, Paiste 101 ride, and a Planet Z ride thats been cut down to about 14" and designated a crash.
Yeah...innit great?

Right.
Ignore the fact that he's an amazing teacher who's taught me more in a year than I learned in 3 years of lessons in a standard shop, and drop him because he can only afford to give a less than spectacular kit.
I'm only paying $10 for 1-2 hours.

Old old Pearl, dunno quite what it is, it's about 28/27 years old or something.
12" 13" 16".. 18" or 20" bass I think.. probably 18 actually. It doesn't sound half bad in the room that it's in. It has pinstripes on all of the toms (eck) and the snare is so so deep and bleh. It's fun to play with rods though.
They have an old old zildjian ride (it's got black outlined zildjian written on the bottom). It's a cool ride but pretty dry and dull, bit too clangy, unlike my ride which is just sweet.
Pro Sonix hats which are awesome for rod playing, open they sound too clangy though.
Zbt 16" crash.. uhh.. yeah.. it works at least.
The pedal's a shocker and I can never get my feet right on the kit, so much more comfortable on mine (naturally.)

^Yes, they are indeed Pro M's. Personally, I think they are awesome(but that's to be expected)...but for good reason. The drums are extremely well built, look amazing, and sound better than I could have ever imagined. Try them out if you can. You might like them :thumb:

well, my experience with Mapex(ironically enough) is only with my drum teachers set, and i really like it, and it is at the lower end of the mapex line, and Pro M is gettin' up there to the top. and man, at mass music i found the rock set(13x11, 16x16 and 18x16 toms, 24x18 bass, 14x6.5 snare) for 1,019.95. i so know what set i'm gettin.

The Pro M is very high up on the Mapex ladder. It's one of Mapex's nicest kits, below only the Saturns and Orions, which are the absolute best Mapex offer...so yeah, it'd be a good invest indeed :thumb:

Well, in the room I take lessons there are three kits. Only one is really fully set up though.
There's an old Pearl, I guess his first kit, stacked up in a corner.
Then set up on a rack with one cymbal (he uses this kit for expplaining things mostly) is one of the Tama Exotix kits. He's actually got like three or 4 of those, all different models.
And the kit everyone plays is a Tama SC, not sure exactly what though.
I'm gonna guess the sizes, cause I'm not exactly sure.
8", 10", 12", 13", 14" toms
20" bass
12", 10" snares
And all Sabian AA cymbals.
6", 8", 10", 12" splashes
12" and 10" hats
14", 16", 18" crashes
20" ride
12", 14" chinas

My old teacher used an orange Yamaha Rock Custom kit.
3 rack toms, floor, tom, and a different coloured maple snare.
2 sabian stage crashes, paiste 2002 ride(i think), Paiste 502 hats and a large china.
Clear pinstripes on all the toms, i remember the bass had a foam ring around the batter with a large centred hole in the reso.
The students used a Sonor 2001 with Sonor ride and hats.

I use a 5 piece Yamaha Rydeen with Stagg cymbals. My teacher uses some sort of e-kit with rubber pads. Its quite a tight squeeze to fit 2 kits in such a small room.

a few years ago My music school used to have a Pearl Rythm Travler and a Pearl Forum, joined together by the bass drum (so both kits face each other) and on the students side, Paiste 101 hats + 101 Crash ride, and a K Custom Ride. on the teachers side, Z Custom hats, cant remember which ride, and there was a UFIP natural series 10" splash in the middle that you could hit on either side.
now we still have the Pearl Forum, with a set of Stagg Brilliant SHs, i think the other kits a Stage Custom Advantage, with the Z Custom hats and a cracked 8" A Splash, then a blue Pearl (probably an export, its from the 80s i think) with i think A New Beats, an A Medium Thin crash and an A Ping Ride, i havnt been taught on this kit for about 6 months so i t may have changed.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the grave. My drum teachers gives lessons on some practice pad set he had built custom in NYC back maybe 25 years ago. Its actually really fun to play on. The cymbals (well the two of them) are 14" A Customs hats (really old) and a 20" ride that I have no idea on the brand, but it sounds effing amazing. For himself he has a Rogers kit, from maybe the 60's or 70's, or at least he claims that is what he has...

My drum teacher has a Grech USA custom in red with a K ride and paiste sig 13" hats. He switches around his main crash all the time.
The kit I play on is an OLD yamaha recording custom in birch I think. I use some old vintage zildjian hats with an Istanbul ride and an old ludwig crash that has a chunk missing.
Fun stuff.
