It's one bar looped throughout the whole song, I can see how that would be boring but not exactly hard.

Doesn't say much for the level of talent amongst the ol' Cobain crew, eh?
They are so heavily praised because their singer killed himself. They're just an average band propelled to god-like fame.

I think the first song I tried to learn was Muscle Museum by Muse, mainly because it looked easy.
Probably because of this bit:
G --------------------
D 4-4-4-4------------
A -4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4--
E -----------4-4-4-4-
Then it got harder (my fretting hand wasn't dextrous enough and I could only pluck with one finger), so I gave up. :thumb:

Which is very prevalent in punk music especially. 3 chords and a 4 note bass line repeated for a couple minutes is a pretty standard recipe. It's not the music. It's what you do with it.

Fun Fact: The Clash made more than one album.
My first was Last Resort by Papa Roach. I will always use the excuse that I didn't pick it, and even at one month of playing I thought it was easy, but **** it, I liked the song as well as everyone else in my band.
I'd like to mention that some of the songs mentioned, notably Day Tripper, are a lot harder when you're singing and playing about twice as fast as the original recording. Yay punk rock.

Thats really debatable. Nirvana were just the big winners out of grunge - they didn't really start it. You could say Green River or Soundgarden just as easily.
Anyways, my first song was Guerilla Radio. Transferring from Sax to Bass is a bit harder...

On guitar, it was a very, very half-assed version of Enter Sandman. If I try to find my old computer, I might be able to put it off of it. It was terrible!
On bass, I'm not sure... I think I started by learning a ton of guitar riffs for some reason. Can't remember which one came first though....
Edit: I also have a version of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star I recorded on the same day all on one string.
