I mean like old green day is good.
Coheed & Cambria is pretty catchy

The closest thing is probably Kelly Clarkson and she's really good.

Glassjaw
I personally think they're an excellent poppypunky band, no shame there.

And if FOB or MCR comes on and I'm forced to listen to it it gets stuck in my head for a while because that's what they are made for.

to me glassjaw is anything but mainstream, most people i know hate the band 'cause they're "too weird".

I'm not particularly embarrassed by any of my music but if I have to, I'd say:
The Used (the debut)
Dashboard Confessional
Dave Matthews (& Tim Reynolds)
Bloodhound Gang (Jimmy Pop is probably one of the best lyricists around)

The Kaiser Chiefs, although the album was weak, they have had some great catchy singles. And why be embarassed of liking the Libertines, they have released two of the best albums this side of the millenium, imo anyway.

Muse, although it's not that bad.
Mindless Self Indulgence
Marylin Manson (I did slightly for a very brief time. He doesn't bother me)
Against Me! (other than don't loose touch, which is a terrible song, I really like this band)

All the ska music I listen to is pretty embarrassing too. It's so fun, and I have such a great time at the concerts, I can't help but like it.

Yeah I had a friend who gave me the :-/ look when I told him that Tool was a good band, but I knew if he gave Undertow a try he would probably like it because that's more his thing than he knew.

But you can't push Tool on anyone or you'll be a fanboy, and we already had one of those at our school who repelled a lot of people from ever trying to listen to them. So he found Undertow on his own and now they are on good terms :)

10-08-2005, 11:36 PM
The thing about my friends making fun of me for listening to against me! is that they also know that I listen to a lot of other good music. Infact, one of my friends decided one day that she wanted to get into good music with the help of me. So I've given her 20 or so CD's over the past month and she's loved every single one of them. I rock at recomending music.

But everyone has those bands that just don't seem to fit in with the rest of the good music.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with Tool. For awhile I liked them, and still listen to them sometimes.

Everclear. I really like them quite a lot. I first saw them 10 years ago at a record store performance and they just blew me away. I like literally like everything they have done. They veered into pop and I think that made some think they were a lightweight band. And then Art Alexakis (singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer) had a solo album he was going to make of pop songs, but made it an Everclear album instead. That didn't help things, and I'm not sure if their image ever fully recovered. And their last album with the original line up was hit and miss. But the songwriting was always really good, and Art tackled some heavy themes without letting it get weighed down. Good live band, too. But because they had a number of songs about families, f-up's, Art's childhood, relationships, and fatherhood, they somehow got a bit of a reputation as a kiddie band, of sorts. I went to a gig in Orange County and literally hundreds of 11 and 12 year olds showed up. Mostly girls because Art wrote some songs for and about his daughter. And he would have them come onstage and dance, and it was just good fun for them. Then I saw Art solo in Hollywood with just him and his guitar and figured it would be all serious music people showing up to hear the songwriter. Nope. Dozens and dozens of 11 and 12 year old girls turned up as well. And this guy is a near 40 year old who sings about the hard life to quite an extent. Some father figure.

But anyway, yeah. Everclear. A good band with a slushy rep. But I love them still.

I'm pretty sure that if I lived away from my family, espcially my brother, I would be a bigger punk fan. Until then, though, I've got my select few bands that I get minimal ridicule for. Even though my parents listen to a bit of punk.

I'm embarassed when I listen to stuff like Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and Neutral Milk Hotel in front of closed minded people. They make fun of me and I can tend to be self-contious. So that sucks. But I've gotten into the habit of planing the mars volta for them and they usually just pretend to like it so they will look cool. I really hate people who pretend to like music just to fit in.

Me: Yeah I've been digging the mars volta
Poser: yeah they ****ing rock
Me; *goes into a twenty five minute babble fest about Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt*
Poser:....Umm..Yeah the widow is sweet, I like the video...*walks away*

My biggest and only would have to be AFI. It's fun driving music sometimes.

I've still got a linkin park CD and a blink 182 CD. I don't know what to do with them.

I like the awful pop music they play at wedding receptions etc when I've been drinking. Especially the Grease Megamix. Can't stand it sober though

Everybody loves that stuff when drunk, it's the ultimate singalong music!

I'm not embarassed for liking any of the bands I do. But I do get a lot of crap for liking Elton John...

He rules. Only the ultra-hip indie kids like Elton.

Good. You should edit the post and put in Anal Cunt, because that's one of them funny jokes 'round here.

Half the time, I'm even embarassed to listen to the Smashing Pumpkins. Just because of the bad wrap they get almost everywhere. (except amongst a select few on these boards)

Speaking of them, I once heard this great song by The Smashing Pumpkins, don't recall the title though... I just remember the lines "Heaven spits me out, the sewers belch me up", anyhow that song is awsome, does anyone know which album it appears on?

Well... on this board... I guess new Metallica. Not many here are fans of new Metallica, but I like it. (NOT St. Anger... that just sucked)

Black Album - pretty good. Load and Reload... I liked them for the most part. A couple of pretty crappy songs, but I liked where they went with their style. I think Unforgiven II is one of their better recordings... a lot of little details in that song that really impressed me a couple weeks ago (as I hadn't listened to them for a long time).

Edit: Oh, and I guess DMB. No one really likes their music here either.

The name of the song is "The End is the Beginning is the End"... It appeared on Batman and Robin soundtrack and was released as a single in 1997.
