Xiu Xiu is pronounced "shoo shoo". I have that on high authority.

The singer pronounces it that way, but in Mandarin Chinese Pinyin it is technically "Shee-oh Shee-oh," with the 'ee' part going really fast and the 'sh' being palatalized. But it doesn't really matter anyway.

the first e is pronounced like a Norwegian "Æ" which is halfway between an a and an e
so its Ærlend.

That's why I said it was a guess. One Swedish guy I knew (I know, not exactly Norwegian, but still) said that 'rl' isn't really pronounced like that, but more like a retroflex l. And the guy put o instead of ø, which completely changes everything.

"sigur rós si-ur rose (the i is like the i in "hit". "rose" is said very quickly)"
