Hiya,

Anyone own one of these? What are your opinions? How much does it sell for in the UK?

TIA

Silly question - does Mike Dirnt play his signature bass on stage a lot, or does he use other ones?

do NOT buy one
they sound great but the necks are junk
i had one and the neck was crap and so was the other one at the GS so fender sent me another one and the neck on that one was crap too
buy a good MIA p-bass and just hot rod it with the same pup the md bass has, its a '59 p-bass reissue pup

If he used other basses it would be a p-bass. But yeh he uses his signature one most of the time.

Its got a nice tone to it, but I don't think you can really get a good range of tones on it.

He uses his sig, and other Precisions...

He used to play Gibsons, but the necks messed up his wrist...

So I'm presuming its a MIA bass?

I'm just looking at different instruments for when I can afford them (which will be soon hopefully).

It's MIM, I think...

If you're in that price range, check out the 60s Jazz Bass RI... I've heard nothing but good things about it...

I don't like it in the slightest bit.

Get a standard P over that thing anyday.

I didn't think it was MIM, isn't it MIK or CIJ?

I actually like it.

It's really thumpy, I actually think it would do well for old school rock or blues... but for sure if you are a Green Day fan the tone will suit you.

Some like the neck, some don't. I thought it was comfy, for a Pbass.

I prefer really small necks though.

It is MIM, I played one just the other day and checked. Its got an ash body, and with the '59 pickup and badass-II bridge its got monster vintage Precision tone. The neck was a bit thicker than the average P-bass but not obnoxiously big. Seemed like a solid bass...

Yeah, except that would run you like 400 bucks more. I don't know where you can buy those pickups, I've searched high and low, and since I haven't found it, I assume that you would have to order one from the Fender Custom Shop, which is notorius for overcharging.

Every SINGLE one of these basses I've played (at least 10 diff ones), I've loved. Solid construction, and awesome, beefy tone. Only thing I didn't really like was how thick the neck was (I have small hands), and I wasn't really looking for a bass that wasn't really comfortable to play. I will be getting one eventually, but not until I get a bass with a Jazz style neck first.

You don't need the same bloody pickup, heck, I'll bet it's just the '62 reissue with a different name.

Aren't all Fender necks interchangeable? If you love the tone and construction, but hate the neck, you could always get a jazz neck, or a regular precision neck. Of course, it won't have the old school look of the normal neck though...

Sounds like you should get it, then. Fender necks are interchangable, so you could just slap a jazz neck on it.

The neck socket on the Dirnt is square, and I don't know if fender makes a Jazz neck with a square neck socket.
