All the dates are now confirmed for the Crimean Tour 2005, featuring Propagandhi, Greg MacPherson (with band), and select dates with Western Addiction and Toys That Kill. See them on the tours page dinkerson! And please do NOT stop emailing to ask if this tour of the Western US is coming to your mid-western, east coast, Australian, Canadian, or European town. We LOVE repeatedly telling people that these are not the only 15 shows Propagandhi will ever play after releasing this record. (Famous last words!)

I like HTCE over every other album but I still love them all being HTCE > TETA > PCL very close and LTMR.
Here's the review I wrote for it for a SoCal magazine. I could have made it three times as long, but I was told to keep it under 200 words (which I didn't do).
Most people I know think of Propagandhi as that skate-punk band that sort of sounds like NOFX but are more political. How 1993. Since then Propagandhi has gradually left their skate-punk sound behind, maturing into a more hardcore/metal influenced punk sound that resulted in their last record “Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes.” On first listen, “Potemkin City Limits” sounded just a little more mellow and a little less inspired than their last effort, but after reading over some of the best political/issue-based lyrics I have ever read and giving the CD a few spins, this one has grown on me like mold on the cheese I left on the counter last week. Bassist/Vocalist Todd “The Rod” Kowalski has a greater presence on this one and takes the reins on one of my favorites, “Bringer of Greater Things”. Not only does he actually sing on this one instead of his normal screaming, but they’ve thrown in a Hammond Organ, something I never thought I’d hear Propagandhi utilize. The reason I love the song so much is because it shows how, although it’s more subtle this time, Propagandhi have once again tried something new and completely succeeded. “Potemkin City Limits” will be in my CD player until those assholes at Big Wheel ask for it back.

Rock for Sustainable Capitalism (Bashes the hell out of Fat Mike on this one.)
Cut into the Earth (Great mellow, jazzy feel to it; even in the harder parts it still maintains that mellow feel. Definitely a lot different from most of their ventures)
The album is a lot less Thrashier than TETA, that threw me off a bit on first listen; but the melodies, lyrics, vocals, drumming, etc are put together so well it floored me by the second listen. This album has so much undertone and various things going on, you don't really pick up on most of it by the first listen. Lyrically, I think it's their best to date, easily. It's a lot less angry in comparison to older albums, but it seems to be thought out a lot more. Not to say a single bad thing about past lyrics, these just seem more direct. Probably the best way I could describe the comparison.

Yeah, that'd be my one complaint about it. But they fill most of it with excellent lyrics (unlike a lot of other bands who wouldn't have as awesome lyrics to begin with, and then would repeat lyrics to elongate their songs).

I don't think it's over produced at all. The effects they put in compliment the songs completely, the mix is evenly balanced, nothing overshadows, it isn't muddy, yet it isn't too crisp, just crisp enough. The low end is just right where it isn't over bearing, but it sounds full. I thought they did a great job with the production.

so? who says you have to be a citizen of the country you want to criticize? and in the case of Propagandhi, most of the issues they raise are more global problems than domestic ones. even still though, a good portion of their lyrics does in fact take on Canadian issues ("Bringer of Greater Things", on the new album for example)

I don't think it's weird at all; you shouldn't either if you're an American. Our country criticizes just about every other country and how they are run, or are completely apathetic and couldn't care less about how their own country is run, never mind the world.
With all that aside, the problems they talk about are indeed more global (as stated before) than singular. I mean, even things that seem singular typically aren't for the US. The most powerful nation on Earth has that title for a reason; just about everything we do effects the rest of the world. You have to expect criticism when that's the case. So again, I wouldn't say that having a Canadian band criticize us is odd or bothersome at all. Besides, they have plenty of criticism in their albums about various countries as well, Canada included.

I agree with that all the way. Even Chris has said, "Everyone wonders why we only sing about America, and why we don't sing about our own country. Well, we do. Canada is a smaller version of the US" Besides I think a band should be able to sing about whatever they want to. Saying they shouldn't because they're Canadian is ridiculous, this is something people need to get over. I've heard they even use to recieve death threats when they were in Florida. Conclusion: They participate in protests in Canada and are aware of Canadian and world issues as well.

I was going to post that for whoever asked why they sing about American issues.

Fat wreck handles our cd's outside of canada.
Yeah, we don't really have solid distribution for G7 stuff in europe. There
isn't really a demand I guess.
Guitars/ amps: pretty much anything. It's different from record to record.
Empires was Ibanez's with Boogie's, Potemkin was Gibson's with Peavey's and
Marshalls, How to Clean was a Kramer with a Crate. So there is no constant
set-up. They all sound mediocre to me!

Thanks,
JoeI think it has to do with drunken brawls shouldn't be happening. Mouthed feet, eaten hats, teated bulls, and amish-phonebooks don't exist. Therefore, I'm assuming he's piling in drunken brawls as something that shouldn't exist.
The line goes "It never ceases to amaze me and as I'm suffering
your perfection it reminds me of my own race
to redress my own sad history of
mouthed feet
Eaten hats
Teated bulls
Amish phone-books
Drunken brawls."
So yeah, I'm not 100% sure, but it makes sense in a way.

To put your foot in your mouth is to make a mistake or say something stupid, "Eaten Hats" refers to the saying "If that happens I'll eat my hat" pointing to failed predictions, Teated Bulls and Amish Phonebooks don't exist and Drunken Brawls are just brawls.
He's referring to his own history of mistakes, anomalies and fights.

I type this assuming you know nothing about hockey.
The (Edmonton) Oilers and the (Calgary) Flames are hockey teams with a bitter rivalry. Since they both come from the province of Alberta, their rivalry is often called the battle of Alberta, but that's beside the point. The analogy is that they're the oilers, and the world bank (or insert any other evil corporation's name in it's place) is the flames. In hockey playoffs the teams face in a best of seven series, so the first to four games wins. If the series goes to game seven it's do or die for both teams, and with two minutes left the tension/need for action rises. I'm not too sure about Jesus saves, Gretzky scores (Wayne Gretzky is known as the greatest hockey player ever). One wrong move we risk the (Stanley) cup. The stanley cup is the trophy awarded to the team that wins the playoffs. Play the man not the puck is hockey strategy in which rather than trying to get the puck and score goals, you just try to keep the players on the opposing team off the puck. How that really relates to what they're talking about I'm not sure.
Also, if you're wondering who "Steve Smith" is, he was a hockey player who scored on his own net.
Has anyone heard "Curse of the MTV punks," as it's called on soulseek? It's them live in '95 (this may or may not be true, but it's before LTMR came out) and it's hillarious.
