View Full Version : Thoughts?
For popular albums, there are often several reviews. The comments are done individually per review, like a thread.
But what if:
All comments for that particular album were lumped together into one big thread that anyone reading any one of the reviews could see. That way, the discussion on the same album won't be fragmented throughout the different reviews.
In terms of commenting on the review itself, there could be a seperate 'review critique' section where this is done.
There are a few difficulties with this:
1) It could get confusing with two comment submit forms
2) Sometimes you not only want to 'critique' or say good job on a review, but disagree with the opinions and content in a review. IE... I disagree with what you said about Rush, because I don't think they sound like...blah
This last point may be insurmountable, but I'd like your thoughts
I really don't think people will get confused with two comment boxes, provided that they are labeled.
In regards to your second point: well, it's the same as the first point, provided that you clearly label the comment boxes (are you going to have them side-by-side, or one on top of the other, or what have you), there shouldn't be any problems.
While I do recognize that multiple-review albums are a pain in terms of remembering what review you commented in or to follow comments, putting them into one gigantic thread would be sort of nice, so long as it was organized.
However: that's going to be more work for you, Med, and Damrod to figure out which comments constitute going into the "big" thread and which comment goes into each individual thread, especially if you want this done to all the reviews that already exist on the site.
It'll be like when you brought all the reviews from the archive over to Sputnikmusic. A lot of the comments after the reviews were outdated, in a sense.

Basically, I think this is a good idea. I wondered: Maybe it is possible to keep it all in one, even the comments thingy regarding reviews. How about introducing a subject line above the comment? Something like "Review response: >reviewer's name<"
That way, it could all be kept central in one place, but reviewers could still be adressed in a relative direct way.
My two cents so far, I give it more thought, maybe I get another idea :)

I like it how it is. I don't think it's a big deal having several different reviews; I've never had a problem with the discussion or the posting going on. I'm just curious to know how you would merge the comments of all of the reviews into one big thing.

It seems unnecessary and could get complicated and confusing. The way it is right now works just fine.
And if you can't keep track of which review you commented on, you mustn't be paying very much attention...

I really don't like the thought.
and I never really saw the use of several of the same reviews :-/
if a posters keeps the review in the format, and gives a sensible (read: not fanboy like) description of the album, we don't need a 2nd review of the same album anyway

People can create at second review if they wish. It is silly to do it if you offer the same viewpoint as the other review, but even those cases people are allowed to do it at will.

Multiple viewpoints = way, way more useful. One guy's opinion means may mean very little, but it's easier to determine if you'd like something judging by several reviews.

I think it would confuse everyone and everything. The way it's organised now, I think, is perfect.
Thanks for the input guys
