I made a thread bout the movie "Serenity" awhile back, but that was before the marketing campaign had really kicked in, so no one really knew what i was talking about.
But now you might. Two days til this movie opens. Who's seeing it? As a very much avowed Firefly fan, i can tell you i will be the Star Wars geek equivalent for this movie. I just wish i owned a brown coat.

I like the Seinfeld episode that shares the same title.

Seems like the standard sci-fi comedy. But, I didn't watch the show, so I don't know if there's more to it.

If you like Sci Fi, action or humour at all, see this movie. Whedon, the writer, is exceptional at blending everything and the characters are timeless.
Just imagine a Star Wars film that centers around the world of a cynical Han Solo as opposed to those snooty Jedi. Lightsabers or no, it really makes for a better little universe.
I'm getting even more excited now too that the Tomatometer is up to 77%. Hope it stays up around there.

Oh man, I saw the preview for it a while ago, it looks SO much like the below average typical summer time sci fi comedy that usually sucks, like Deep Impact. Then I saw ALL These reviews and hype for it... I must be missing something.
Is this the movie where the captain is like "Do you want to be Captain of the ship" and the other guy is like "Yeah I do" and the Captain is like "Oh... well... You can't."

Yeah. It's got great touches of humour like that. Plays like conventional one liners and then throws what you won't expect at you. Trust me, see this movie. You will like it.
It's not even out and it has a huge fanbase already. The DVD of the TV show went on Sale in December 2003 and hasn't left Amazon's top 20 yet. Go to it. Now. What are you waiting for? Go.

Yeah seriously, this hype came out of nowhere. I've heard some say its the next star wars... and it looks.... so.... average. It seriously reminds me of Tomb Raider in Space. Yuck! I'll still see it I guess, this hype has brainwashed me.

The "big deal" about this movie is that.. it's gonna rock.. And everyone who's seen the series knows it.. Because basicly, the series was written as one long kickass movie.. And it's gonna be amazing to see it with a good budget

Thats because there are a ton of people like you, who haven't seen the show.
Then there are a few people who have seen the show and know what's coming.
The problem with the movie is that all of the humor is based on dialogue, not punchline kinda stuff.
The cast is simply amazing, the story is amazing, the effects in the show looked amazing considering they had a tv budget to work with.
This is the Freeks and Geeks of sci-fi.

Man, I've been waiting for this for so long.
Each episode was better than previous one, I love them all so much. I hope the movie begins to answer some of the questions I had after the series finale. Not just the obvious (ie: River), but also concerning Book his mysterious past, Simon and Kaylee, Mal and Inara etc.

I've never seen Firefly but I really want to see this movie. I love Whedon's writing, he has such a nack for dialogue.
Ok so now I'm thinking about picking up Firefly on DVD.
Anyways yeah, this movie looks like it will rock.

Today's the Big Damn Day!
It's got an 80% on the Tomatometer, 83% on COTC at the same site and 8.4 on IMDB. Bound to go down a bit, but not a bad starting point anyway.
Everyone go see this 50 times! Big money for this movie means a trilogy!

Would it be better if they made a trilogy of movies or if they uncancelled the series?
(I want to see this movie- even though I only saw the pilot ep. Was pretty enjoyable)

It isn't likely that they'll uncancel the series, as fox has only done that once and only when something did really well in another med...i...um...
oh....

Whedon said he won't work in TV again until his contract with FOX is over, which isn't for some time. Probably a good idea, but it likely means no series.
If he did resurrect Firefly, it'd probably go on the WB or something.

I thought that this would be average, but I was wrong.
All I have to say is WOW.

If this makes a lot of movie, there will be nothing to stop everyone from calling this the new Star Wars. It was absolutely amazing.
I mean, it was weak in a few small areas:
- Some of the supporting characters didn't get fleshed out
- Some emotional reactions that should have been played out weren't bothered with
- The second act wobbled a bit
However, these are only minor quips in comparison to how goldenly acted, written, and plotted the rest of the movie is. George Lucas can only dream of a time when his filmmaking talent was comparable.

Oh, my ****ing god.
spoiler below.
They killed him. They killed my favorite character. He ceased being a leaf on the wind.
I love the way they explain book. Not by any words but by making the other black guy go through what book obviously went through. River is made to be a bit overpowered, but god if they didn't set up a trilogy not known since Indiana Jones.
The only problem I had was the Chinese wasn't as seemless as it was in the series (I went with a chinese friend who told me that every time they used chinese, they then repeated the phrase in english, which I pretty much picked up on on my own.)
Everything else was stellar. I can see people saying that the special effects were weird, but only if you've seen the show. If you've watched the commentary, you know that the weird camera angles during ship scenes were purposeful, because while they are odd in sci-fi, they pay a great homage to westerns and add a lot of feeling without costing a lot.
