First impression of this was, excellent acoustic sound, what did you use to record? Is it an electro acoustic or did you just mic up a normal acoustic? Your playing technically is excellent and your style makes you want to listen to the tracks more so for that :thumb: I had trouble getting into the actual melodies but that's the genius of music, good work, I will put this on my mp3 player to listen to in more detail

After reading Indemoned's review I had to download the tracks
It is gorgeous playing  The melodies are lovely, everything is so calm and peaceful
The tone and recording quality is spot-on
I hope to hear more from you in the future
Ps.
the last one didn't download for me :(

Yeah, excellent stuff, by the way, threadstarter, do you go by an alias or a stage-name or something? I only ask to update the song info in iTunes :thumb:

Thanks everybody! Indemoned, I just go by Jeff Pearson. I use a Cort MR 727F just plugged straight in to the computer. Thanks everyone so much for the compliments, I'm glad you guys like it! Second poster, if you want, I can send you my first 'album' over AIM or something, Astrolove is on there. :)

Really good :thumb:
Maybe some reverb on the solo guitar would give more body to the sound.
panning the guitars is good too.

I really enjoyed The Red Room, so much so that I downloaded it. Do you have any other songs to that effect? I would have to agree about the reverd though would add the experience 10 fold

Very clean guitar playing... I hate when most people record acoustic guitar (like on soundclick). Some of the sloppiest playing I've ever heard.
I didn't listen to everything, but on the Red Room, the lower chords started to distort. A little buzzing, too...
That Untitled piece in F#m is pretty cool...

Thanks man, sorry about the buzzing, I was still getting the song down as I was recording it, so it was still a little foreign... It's nothing official, so ya know..anyway, glad you liked it! :thumb:

Great stuff, however, if I have one suggestion, I was not a big fan of the tone of the lead parts, sounded too... fake? Or something. I liked the sound of the rhythm guitar, but if I were you I'd do some tweaking on the leads. The tone sounds pretty good, (though I think it could be better,) when you're doing the lead harmonies, so if it were me I'd probably do some tweaking just for that part.
I'm mostly referring to the first one here. On the second the leads sounded quite good really, tonally.
I really enjoyed this music, however. Very very clean stuff.

Thanks dude! I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for the feedback. I'll try and tweak the sounds when I'm done with the overall project, I'm going to work with some panning and reverb and whatnot...

This is really brilliant stuff, I wish I had means to record my stuff to get feedback of the calibur that is showing up this thread.
The only thing that would make these songs better would be some good vocals and even so "Red Room" is just gorgeous.

Nice Job!

Pretty cool.
I listened to Red Room and enjoyed it. Everything about it is spot on, and it flows nicely, and it's a breath of fresh air for someone who listens to a lot of 80s Metal.
One thing though, it's a little TOO perfect, if you get my meaning. I dunno, I keep feeling that you need to throw somthing wacky or unexpected in there (by wacky I don't mean get someone to read out a recipe for cornflakes over the top of the verses, and by unexpected I don't mean a big cow moo in the middle of a solo), instead of running up and down the scale. :thumb:
But you really do know how to play your guitar mate, keep up the good stuff :thumb: .

good stuff... although I have to disagree with everyone the only thing I don't like is your tone. Plugging straight in the computer from your acoustic is not the way you want to record an acoustic, it sounds fake. I sugguest getting a mic and recording it live, it will sound a lot better.
Out of curiousity how long have you played?

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I've been playing for four years now.
Edit: I would love to try out new recording techniques, but I just don't have the funds to do so. Sooner or later, I'll delve deeper into the recording world, but I'm just having fun for now, trying to find a band to start up. :thumb:

Get yourself a nice condenser mic and a little Eurorack mixer, your guitar will come up a little crisper.
I'm in the same boat as you, I can't really afford any gear and I have to DI everything, BUT, I highly reccomend you take up singing (or find someone to sing for you) and tour your acaustic around some pubs to get some cash for some recording gear.

Wow. I just listened to red room.
makes me wanna give up straight away. ****ing incredible. I can't usualy listen to instrumentals. How many guitars did you use in that piece?
If you feel like giving me some of what I would consider almost profesional advice on either of my tracks, iv'e used some compresser thing on them...

Wow, you guys rock for saying all these nice things! To answer all the questions asked...no, I don't take lessons. I did for a month when I first started out, but they just weren't for me, and I wasn't learning anything. Crimsonpunk, I'll check out your tunes whenever this raging hangover dies down and I can think straight again... Nineaway, I added you to my list, so I could send you my first album if you really want. And finally, I'm really glad I struck a chord with someone to do their own thing, it's a great feeling to inspire. Thank you all again. :thumb:

That is really good yes. Superb playing.
+ reverb, + female singer and then get out there.
Aus_rock_god
10-02-2005, 08:13 PM
Dunno about the female singer dude. When I listen to this stuff, for some strange reason I keep thinking about trains:amaze:...
I'm thinking some John Butler or Teaparty style singer, but it's totally up to the threadstarter.

I think it sounded good. I happen to play acoustic myself. I just happen to be more of the muffled bluesy sound fan if that makes sense.
But I do agree with what a lot of people are saying. You need to have some reverb and a condenser mic for reasons you are already aware of by now... making this post seemingly pointless... Oh well. Good work boyo.
EDIT: Also, vocals would be nice. Don't screw up the guitar by doing it though. That could ruin it big time. I picture a mix between Billy Corgan (not screaming) and Dave Grohl for the vocals. Don't ask why... ;)
JeffP1717
10-03-2005, 01:36 AM
Yeah, I'm not too sure about the female vocals..I don't have anything against them, ya know, I just don't think it fits the mold of my ideas in my music. I could definately see something in the future with a female vocalist that can wail. She's an opera singer that I know, and she's seriously completely amazing. I think it'd be cool to have her on a song or two, definately, so look out for that I guess..
