Hi I didnt know where to put this, I thought maybe Drums and Precussion but then they would tell me to learn the Drums.... so....

I want to buy a drum machine to play basic rock and punk style beats. However I have no idea at all what im doing. Could you give me any advice on what sort of (or which) drum machine might be good to buy.

Or should I use computer software, I have tried using Fruity Loops but any beat I attempt to make always sounds really Drum and Bass (which can be cool, but its not what Im tring to do). Is that going to be the same if I get a machine. And should I give up right now?

Thanks in advance for any help, I love you.

Computer software man, machines won't give you realistic drum sounds, they are made for hip-hop and the like. Mac software is the best at realistic drums, specially logic. But I'm sure you cna find stuff for pc that will do the job.

Learn to play drums.... nah i'm just kidding

but seriously. Drum machines suck balls. I don't know why you'd want to use them except for midi composing.
You don't see drummers getting guitar and bass machines just cause they don't want to look for a good player.

nah i'm just kidding... it's all good.

seriously though, I'm a drummer and they are ridiculous to use.

I'm guessing the threadstarter plays guitar or something and wants a drum machine to practise over.

But moogoogaipan's got the point there. Drum machines suck if you want to record something properly that isn't midi.

I agree with moog, only use a drum machine if you do hiphop or dance based stuff and want that kind of sound.. if you want a natural sound, get a drummer.

Yeah, im not looking to record anything with one, or do anything live. Just really for practicing and working on songs when there isnt a drummer on hand.

Hammerhead Rhythm Station is ok and free.

The Berzerker used a drum machine in their first album, it turned out okay (awesome, actually).

Also, go to the Beats section here on MX's Drum Tab section and use beats from there.

acoustica beatcraft i got it...it was a 7 day demo but i guess they messed up..and ive had it for like a month now...and it keeps saying 7 days left..so i guess i lucked out..you can give that one a try...good and def realalistic...and you can make your own beats and render them to waves
