Just watched Advent Children, all I can say is that I'm dissapointed. Being a huge FF7 fan I had high hopes for this movie, but Square should really stick to videogames.

well, sorry to hear it, i'll rent it but it'll probably be a definite cash in on the originals success much like what Final Fantasy Spirits within was (god, that movie was awful)

i swear you made a thread about leaving here about a month ago...

i enjoyed Advent Children. it helped me understand FF7 more, and the animations and the voice actors were great. it was quite random at some points, but it was a good movie overall. i do think it ripped off The Matrix a bit though.

I enjoyed it as well. I suppose Sqaure had huge expectations to make, and it must be hard with such a popular game like this. I think they did a good job with make a story, and the fight scenes were pretty cool. It was quite cheesy at some times, but it was good.

I thought Advent Children was amazing, one of the better movies I've seen recently.

Well what I had hoped for in this movie was a good story, and the story dissapointed me to no end. It seemed like nothing more than an attempt for square to show off how good they are at making CGI movies look pretty.

In my mind it's on the same level as that other crappy Final Fantasy movie.
I was hoping to see abit of background on what all the characters are doing, but that wasn't to be, instead they all just show up at the same time and start throwin cloud.

While I followed what was happening (wasn't hard with an almost non-existant story) it just seemed to be all over the place. I was looking forward to this movie, I wasn't one of those fanboys that was saying, "OH noes they are ruining ff7 $quare Enix" and after seeing it I will boldly say, that is a disgrace to the world of ff7.

Edit: I couldn't tell if that main bad dude was a guy or a chick, in the end I decided it was a guy. Can anyone confirm this?

Most emotional scene in the film, Cloud loses his mobile phone...

you gotta admit when he cut bahamut in half....that was totally badass

infinate_ammo
09-19-2005, 09:54 PM
Meh, it wasn't "totally' badass. Also Reno and Rude seemed like they were trying to be funny, and they weren't.

Turkish
09-19-2005, 09:55 PM
So you didn't like the action or anything??

I didn't think it was THAT bad of a movie, I personally loved it.

infinate_ammo
09-19-2005, 09:57 PM
It's not that it was bad, it's just that it was so incredibly average, the action was way to exagerrated. I know it wasn't meant to be realistic but sometimes it seemed like it was trying to be DBZ. They should have made all the action turn based.

Turkish
09-19-2005, 10:04 PM
????

Why, that would make the expectations of characters so anti-climactic IMO. And it would make the movie slow.

infinate_ammo

Yeah I was joking about that

Zmev
09-19-2005, 10:07 PM
It was a movie about a video game.

What did you expect, honestly?

I saw it and it wasnt bad, Reno and Rude were sort of funny.

Kingofdudes
09-19-2005, 10:08 PM
I think you expected too much out of it. I am happy with it, and I think the Turks were pretty funny.

infinate_ammo

I think both looked badass, unlike Cloud or J-Pop as I feel he should be renamed.

Reno and Rude were about as funny as aids.

I wasn't in it for cloud, whilst I loved his fight scenes, I was in it for Nanaki and Vincent.

infinate_ammo
09-19-2005, 10:24 PM
Nanaki was in it about twice, I imagined him talking differently. I imagined everyone talking differently except Vincent, who was portayed very well. Barret sounded like a little bitch.

yeah, but I'm assuming you've seen the English Sub/Japanese voice acting one.

Which I love Japanese voice acting...but I'll have to see it in english again before I judge that.

infinate_ammo

Correct, but no matter hwo good the english voice acting is this movie is still very VERY average at best.

I absolutely loved the movie. The fight scenes were brilliant and who cares if they may have ripped off the matrix but the matrix was brilliant too. I must admit that I was a bit confused to start with and it may have been cheesy but i was extremely impressed.

Rude and Reno rule.

The guy was male as well, considering they're all calling each other brother.

I watched it twice in the past few days, and it's alright.
Vincent always has been a badass, but he is easily better than Cloud in this film.

I want to play FFVII again now, I'll have to get it off my brother.

I thought it was ok.

Visually it's very nice. The action is great. Fight scenes are well-choreographed. I enjoyed that aspect. But it's also quite ridiculous at times... they might as well just have given them the power of flight, the way they jump around and just run onto the walls of tall buildings to get to the top, or give eachother boosts right into the stratosphere. Not that i expected realism in a fantasy movie, but it's a bit much. I can't complain much though, it's pretty spectacular. A few more gigantic monsters would have been nice.

However, the story isn't exactly epic. It was one of the strongest aspects of FFVII and it had an open ending that left some questions unanswered, so i had some expectations regarding the plot, but it's just not that good. There isn't a buildup of suspense. Character development is minimal. Even though the characters were true to their game versions in the few things the did say, there's hardly any additional depth to them. I hope they don't hire a retard to do Red XIII's voice in the English version. Only one character shows aspects of his personality than were an addition to the game rather than a rehash. And it certainly isn't Cloud because all he does besides kicking people's ***, is have his lame flashbacks again. We get it, he misses Aeris and blames himself for her death... they must have hired Dr. Phil to co-write the script.

It was. Red said maybe two sentences, and he sounded like a teenager (which he is).

The story fit in perfectly with ff7, which i was very glad about, I'm guessing Kadaj and crew were failed Sephiroth clones that Hojo made when he thought Sephiroth was dead, as in the game, they all jump into the crater (the guys in the black hoods), and Rufus said they checked the crater, and no one was there, well thats the conclusion i came to, and it explains Kadaj turned into you know who ;) As the jevona cells were the only thing missing in the failed Sephiroth clones, because Sephiroth was the only one with a part of Jevona.

I was also glad about the way the worked Aeris into it, the way she had unfinished buisiness with Cloud and the others, so she couldn't return into the lifestream like the other Ancients. I found it funny that Cloud was the only one who seemed to still care about Aeris' death.

The only thing that i didn't get is how the rain cured them all... Didn't seem to make sense.

EDIT: The geostagma thing also explained how Jevona killed the original ancients with the "virus" they talk about in the game, when it/she first came to their planet.

Turkish
09-21-2005, 04:34 PM
The only thing I came up with about the rain is that it was the lifestream, which was the one thing that could kill jenova. Which would also explain why the church was the only place in the slums that could grow flowers, because it was a place the lifestream went through.
