I know for a fact that there are lots of other anime and manga fans on the forums and that there have been threads here and there about different series', so i decided to make a thread in which we can discuss different forms and shows, and also ask questions and share episodes.

Also, have abit of profile for yourself :

Naruto : Alot of us watch this, and we are currently in the crazy, generally boring filler section. Some of the things are cool though, like Hinata's new moves and the 'funny' episodes.

Hellsing : Probably the best vampire series ever, drawing alot from Vampire Hunter D, but improving action sequences, animation and storyline. Its brilliant.

Gundam Wing : The famous one, it got alot of people into anime when it aired on Cartoon Network, including myself. Awesome mecha battles.

Im not a fan, hence, I won't watch something *just* because it has those stupid looking eyes and pointy noses. But if I had to choose some shows that I have on DVD, they would be:
Cowboy Bebop Box Set - Pretty Cool
Hellsing - Really Really crap, stopped me from buying japanese cartoons on impulse
Fist of the North Star - Brought back old memories
Outlaw Star - Pretty cool
Neon Genesis Evangelion - tis ok

Hellsing wasn't particularly exciting, the voice acting was terrible, it made out it was violent yet it wasn't, the character design was atrocious, the fact that he can turn into a giant blob is silly, its a terrible show from a vampire story line sidepoint, need I go on?

Evangelion was ok, it didn't have enough battle scenes in it which was a shame because they were really good, I also didn't like all the pervertion in it, I mean, you have to remember that the characters in it are only 14 years old. Still was ok though

i have the boxset, and it wasn't very violent, how can you tell if the Japanese voice acting is good or not? its in japanese

i cant explain very well, but heres the plot taken from a website:

'Plot Summary: As the Pirate King Gold Roger was executed he revealed that his treasure, known as "One Piece", was hidden somewhere on the Grand Line. Monkey D. Luffy dreams of finding the legendary treasure and becoming the Pirate King, and after eating the devil's fruit gains the power to do so. But first he must find a crew...'

basically, it is set in the time of pirates, and this great pirate called Gold Roger hides his treasure somewhere and before he died, he told the whole world about it. Monkey D. Luffy (the main character) is one of the many people that sets out to sea, trying to find the 'One Piece'.

Naruto is boring me senseless now-a-days, need the time skip to take place.

I love the style and everything of Hellsing, but plot wise it is pretty flimsy.

On the other hand though, Evangelion has it all, amazing series, need to watch the films though.

Bleach is pretty good, although it's also really flimsy on the plot front and is dragged along with brilliant character design in my eyes.

Anyone read Monster? I'm about half way through now and I have to say it's very good, a lot different to the Shonens I usually read and what not.

I've loved Gaara ever since he made his first appearence....and all my friends always gave me guff about it. But when he made his comeback....everyone started loving him. Pissed me off.

However, End of Evangelion is such a bittersweet movie. Bitter in how beautifully cynical it is towards itself and sweet in how that was portrayed; Shinji's Catharsis is one of the most beautiful moments in an anime I've ever seen.

I bought the Eva Platinum Series, it was well worth the purchase. The colors in the animation is so crisp and vivid. The audio is wonderfully done in 5.1. Also, the commentary is so fun to hear, especially when Tiffany Grant (Asuka) is doing it, cause she sounds and acts JUST like Asuka.

I liked the "Mythology of Evangelion". It helps explain a lot of things and gives you questions.


And there's many memorable moments in that series, one of which is my avatar. The cool thing about the series is that it was a philosophical/psychological series first and a Mecha series second.

Ah I may look into getting End of Evangelion. Isn't it supposed to act as an alternative ending to the Anime as well?

I liked the Psychological/Mecha split but sometimes I hanker'd for more of the Mecha scenes, 'cause they were done so well.

It has some of the most creative fights outside of early naruto. The only problem with it might be that there is a lot of filler between awsomeness. It has a lot of episodes, I think over 300... But they've only translated up to 160.

And of course. The pirate ninja who fights with 3 swords

It's neat as that her eyes changed from blue to brown, and that her injuries were mirrored to Rei's in Episode 1.

I believe so, DB, DBZ, and DBGT are all pretty good animes (not a real big fan of GT though). DB was amazing and DBZ started great and ended bad.

I dunno, I thought the Buu saga just kinda got ridiculous...even though I loved the Supreme Chi. I just hated how it always seemed so helpless that they couldn't kill Buu.

Freiza saga was amazing and Cell saga was pretty good too.


EDIT: And it got real annoying how they would just kill off Goku and then a few episodes later just wish him back. Kinda took the flavor out of it when he died. Really anti-climactic.

Slayers was pretty fun to watch. My brother and I only had volumes 1-4 and watched them over and over. We watched it so many times we can sing the intro song.

Years later my brother bought the DVD set and we finally watched the whole first story arc.

i prefer blood over then hellsing cause of the nice gore, atmosphere and animation......i cant understand half of hellsing so well, i guess i threw the story factor out.

Yui was telling Shinji in a completely motherly advice, more one-on-one then the whole world. Shinji asked, "But what about the other people?". She said, "If they truly perceive themselves and wish to be back, then they will come back.".

Basically, Asuka and Shinji are the only ones left. Since everyone in the world accepted it because maybe Anno put in some religious tone in there. Like how there would be great famine and worldwide devastation (2nd Impact) and then the selected will be brought into a better place to live.

Which is what 2nd Impact did, it accelerated God's plan to purge the world of sinners. So, since a lot of people believe in transcending, in whatever religion they are a part of, they will unquestionably give up their form to be one with everyone else.

Rei was cloned with the cells of Yui Ikari and infused with some cells from Lillith (the Angel we think is Adam [Lillith is the large white Angel crucified]). So, in a sense, she is a man-made Angel. That is touched upon in the Director's Cut of Episode 23 "Rei III". When she brings the Angel into her Eva unit, and the part where she initiates Drive D. Right before her Eva unit blows up, she is a giant white body. That is also why Kaoru says, "You are Rei Ayanami, we are the same.", he knows that Rei is born from the cells of Yui and of Lillith. During his descension into Terminal Dogma, he sees Lillith, who he thinks is Adam and says, "Must one who is born from Adam return to Adam? Why would the Lillum use what has almost destoryed their entire culture". He then says, "No, this isn't Adam. Lillith! Lillum! I understand now...". He understands that Adam is not nailed onto the large cross, that it is infact Lillith, who supposedly bore Demons from Adam when had an affair with Lillith. The Evas are designed to look like the Barons of Hell, Demons they are infact. He knows that because they are using a being that has born Demons to destroy Angels because of the Humans' extreme will to survive.

Yeah, twas a sad moment in anime history...but Lee pwned him with the Lotus and that rocked.

A) It's a kids anime in Japan.

B) He didn't say ****, the translators are too imature to translate what he really said.

C) You don't need **** to show that kind of emotion. They just need a good voice actor...

ah, I asked 'cause I have recently got up to date with Bleach and Naruto (online) and have started reading Eva and nearly finished Monster and wanted something different to start with.

That program looks interesting though, although I have IRFanView and I think it does the same thing, will read over the description a bit more though.

EDIT: The Bleach anime was really **** good until the end of the Soul Society Arc, then it just went down hill really really quickly I felt.

He sounds like he's 10 in the anime!), messed up defining character traits, and messed with the plot flow and selected dialogue... I was very disappointed.

Yes, but take this as an example: Buggy the Clown is getting mad at a minion who he percieves has made fun of him. Buggy then uses some sort of telekenetic power to hold him in the air all Darth Vader-style, and decides to blow him up using a cannon loaded with his special Buggy Ball. The guy pleads for his life. Here's where the divergence is:
MANGA: He gets blown up, without remorse.
ANIME: "I'll spare you this time."
