So, having been raised on N64 but never having played a Zelda game before, I borrowed a copy of this game. I'm happy to say that is owns and is one of the best games I've ever played. I've had it for about two weeks and I've just entered the Spirit Temple (I've beaten the Shadow Temple already).
Discuss this excellent game.

So far my favourite dungeon is probably the Shadow Temple (though it was easy) or the Forest Temple (a nice challenge but not tedious like the Water Temple). The Fire Temple had the coolest music, though!

One of the finest games ever. Second best in the Zelda series, behind only the very great A Link To The Past for SNES.
I only played majora's mask but that in itself was awesome

Seriously the best game ever, no doubts. I don't think any game will ever be able to be as good as that game was.
Metroid Prime could have made a run if the story was better and what not IMO...

Jump off the ship. Shoot a Fire Arrow at the Bomb Flowers to make them explode. A statue will fall over and you can walk across it to the other side.

Iskandar
09-17-2005, 10:18 PM
The bosses are all fairly easy (Morpha? What a joke ... ) but I guess I would have to say Phantom Ganon. He was the most challenging for me. With the other bosses, it was fairly easy to locate a weakness and exploit it. Once I figured out how to see Bongo Bongo's eye, I defeated him on my second try (and that's with never having beaten the game before).

I remember facing Phantom Ganon was so cool. It was so cool seeing him warp in and out of the paintings. Very cool. And then the last Ganondorf and Ganon battles at the end, AWESOME music and a very badass ending.

Zelda: "Deliver the final blow Link!"
Link proceeds to slash Ganons face 4 times and then stabs him in the head, all the while red blood spraying EVERYWHERE. That my friends is badass.

I dont think there is a way to permanently mess up to the point of restarting the game. It always seems that way but there is always a key or something you can go find to progress. If you know how you can permanently mess it up, please explain or give a link to it. I'm interested in seeing that, because that would be horrible.

Amazing game. My favorite dungeon was the fire temple.
My favorite part of the game was when you had to infiltrate that thieves place (I can't remember the race's name, but I think you all know what I mean), and you had to release some of the prisoners. That part was awesome.
I pre-ordered the new Zelda game like 3 months ago. I've been anticipating it so much. I can't wait.

I got through the Water Temple without a guide. It just took longer than the other dungeons.
Dark Link was easy, though. Just whack him with the Megaton Hammer. A little Din's Fire wouldn't go amiss, either.
The race whose fortress you have to infiltrate are the Gerudos.

I know what you're talking about, using all they keys and when you get up you don't have any to go into the room where the waterfall with the bats and the acending platforms are. I had to start the whole game again because of that.
But I didn't use a strategy guide, to fix finish it tho.
Instead I used Nauru's (SP?) wind at the begining, created a warp point and then came back to the top, then jumped down to the second floor, used Din's fire and lit up the torch and acended the water to the second level. Thus, making me not use the key in the first floor and then loosing it and not being able to advance. After that, I just went up and did the rest of the temple. But in the map there is still a room were I didn't go.
I thought of doing this when I was only 12, but the thing that got me about the game was that Zora's Domain never came back to normal, it still stayed frozen. Anyone know why?

Blue potions? What do they do and where can I get them? I usually stock up on Red Potion before a boss battle.
So I just defeated Ganondorf and got out of the castle with six seconds to spare; I was in the middle of fighting Ganon for the first time and my brother walked in and kicked the console, causing it to freeze.

As was said before, I firmly believe that this is THE best game ever made. Everyone's different, but OOT was perfect in my eyes. I remember having one of the best times of my life as a kid playing this. I don't remember much of it other than I was on the edge of my seat, and I would get such a great feeling of accomplishment when finishing a dungeon.
God, are there any N64 emulators? I haven't played this game in years. It calls to me! My precious..

I was the first one in my school (I was a sixth grader in a K-6 school) to get this game, and I beat it in a month (one of the fastest games I've ever beat).
The reason why I got this game was when I was really young I played Link to the Past (the SNES Zelda) and IMO that is better, just because for me, THAT'S nostalgia, whereas OoT is more modern to me (even htough its almost a 7 year old game now, **** where has time gone?)

When I found out it was coming out I did nothing but play LTTP for months anticipating this game. This game far exceeded my hopes and dreams and was beautiful back in the day. Like many N64 games it hasn't aged very well, but it is still great to play. I don't know where I would rank this on my Zelda list because each game has something special about it that makes it great. Shiggy truely made a fantastic game with this OOT.

Nah, with the exception of Zelda II, none of the games in the series is difficult actionwise or puzzlewize. While some of the dungeons are definitely trickier than others (the infamous Water Temple in OoT and (coincidentally) the Water Temple in Oracle of Ages), I've yet to come across a dungeon that has me scratching my head for days.
My exams are done now, so I finally have the chance to play Wind Waker. It's a great, great game, although it has some minor flaws: the sailing takes ages and the two dungeons I've completed were a little linear. I was stuck in the first one (Dragon Roost Island) so I went through all of the rooms a second time making sure I didn't miss anything when suddenly my controller rumbled, I pressed A and the game actually told me the solution! That was NOT cool!

I felt so accomplished. What a great game.

The version I'm playing has red blood; but what's the Muslim prayer?
Anyway, I beat Ganon today. Awesome.
On version 1.0 and 1.1(i think) of OOT Ganon has red blood, and the music in the Fire Temple is a muslim prayer. This was changed in later versions.
The game also came out in different software release versions. All of the Gold Cartridge games that came out in November of 1998 are version 1.0, and some grey cartridges released soon after were also version 1.0. Version 1.1 grey cartridges began to be released in early 1999, in which Nintendo fixed a number of bugs and glitches from the first version. This was followed by a version 1.2.
The most notable difference between version 1.0 and the following versions is that version 1.0 contains a trick that allows one to play the game without Link's sword, which in turn allows one to use any item on Epona. Version 1.1 is a lot like version 1.0 except you can't do the above trick (there is a different known method that works on all versions, Including GameCube ones). Ganon's blood at the end of the game appears red in versions 1.0 and 1.1, but was changed to green in version 1.2. Finally, the original theme for the Fire Temple angered the Muslim community, who felt that it was based on an Islamic prayer chant. In response, Nintendo replaced it in version 1.2 with a new theme in later cartridges, considered by many to be inferior. Nintendo was later forced to change the crescent moon and star symbol of the Gerudo to an original design in the GameCube rerelease, again due to Muslim protest.

After playing this game once, the first dungeon is so easy. It takes less than half an hour. I love jumping down and breaking the web.
Did anyone ever use the glitch to walk past objects/people blocking the way. i.e. Mido blocking the way to the Deku Tree(child)/Lost Woods(adult)?

I actually got stuck in the Fire Temple, but everything else was smooth sailing.
Reason I got stuck was because there was this door you had to access whose ledge seemed inaccessible, but in fact when you jump towards it you can reach it. A glitch incurs when you do that, wherein your body actually teleports to the ledge (to a hanging position) even though it is clear that you can't jump high or long enough.
It threw me off for a while.

I got stuck in there too for a bit. I kept trying to jump onto a ledge from the front, which was impossible to make; but it was possible from the side.

I hated wall masters. It sucked if they got you. All you really had to do was run around though. The shadow temple was awesome. The part with the boat was cool. I used to be scared of the re-deads. In the room with the boss key, I didn't see it because it blended in with the wall. I was like WTF when in jumped on me.

It seems the Water Temple confuses everybody. While I found it the most difficult dungeon yet, nevertheless I got through it in less than a week.
I played the game on my own up to that temple. I got stuck in it though, luckily the kid i borrowed it from had a game saved right at the Shadow Temple. So I continued right from their and beat it.
Anyways, its definetly the best Zelda game and one of my favorites overall

getting the real big gorons sword is one ****ing hard side quest...
If I remember correctly, this is the series of events you need for the Biggoron's Sword.
I hope I didn't leave anything out:
1. In Kakariko, talk to the rancher girl that raises Cuckoos. She'll give you an egg.
2. Wait 24 hours, and have it hatch into a Cuckoo.
3. The cuckoo only crows when it wakes a heavy sleeper, so go wake up the Lon Lon farmer in the Kakariko hotel thing.
4. He will give you Cojiro, which is a blue Cuckoo.
5. Give Cojiro to the sad man in Lost Woods (where the Skull Kid used to be, first room on the left)
6. He'll give you an odd mushroom. Take it to the Potion Witch in Kakariko. You're timed, so make sure you have Epona.
7. The witch will turn it into a potion. Go back to the sick man in Lost Woods.
8. The man is gone, and a little girl is there instead. She'll give you a saw.
9. Take the saw to the carpenter in Gerudo Valley. He'll give you a sword handle for the broken saw.
10. Take the sword piece to the Biggoron on top of Death Mountain. His eyes are dusty from the volcano explosions or something, so he needs eyedrops. He'll take the broken sword and gives you a prescription.
11. Head to Zora's Domain and talk to the King. He'll give you an Eyeball Frog.
12. Hurry up and go to the labratory at Lake Hylia before the eyes expire.
13. You will get the Eyedrops.
14. Hurry your *** back up to Death Mountain and give the eyedrops to Biggoron. You will be hard-pressed for time unless you fly. Make sure to use Epona.
15. Give the eyedrops to Biggoron. He will dance and have an orgasm at the quality of the drops.
16. You will get a claim check for the sword.
17. Play the Sun's Song six times (so that three days pass).
18. You will get Biggoron's Sword.
EDIT: The nice thing about Biggoron's Sword is that it takes half the amount of hits for an enemy to die. Plus, having the Biggoron's Sword in the final battle is vital for your success. I won't spoil the ending/final battle, though.

You need the Gold Gauntlets, it's where Din's Fire was in the past.
As per my Ganon strategy, here it is(spoilers, obviously):
Stay at a distance and constantly move sideways with the Z target on the head. Then stun him temporarily with the longshot. Do this until you get the sword back to conserve magic. At this point, you can just do the Light Arrow + Master sword.

You need the golden gauntlets to get to the fairy. You have to wait till you get to ganon's castle. After getting the gauntlets, you lift up the big block where you got din's fire as a kid, and you get the 1/2 damage thing.

I Z-target his face and fire Light Arrows to stun him; then I roll between his legs with the Megaton Hammer (Biggoron's Sword works if you have it) and shift the Z-target to his tail. If I run out of magic, I just get him to destroy some rubble. There are several magic bottles in one of the rubble blocks.

I loved OOT, though there's still some things I never really worked out. Like those statues that told you the time, and took off if you bombed them. What were they about? Then sometimes I find random stone circles that don't mark hidden tunnels or anything, that are just there for no reason. And stuff like the dogs in the ranch. How random. I loved the Gerudu Valley and the Spirit Temple, it was so eerie. Can't remember what the boss in that was though...
I remember being a little disappointed at the linearity of it though (I'd never played a Zelda game before). I remember reading in a magazine something like "Link bombs a seal in a church, and discovers this vast chamber..." the seal was the circular thing on the floor of the Temple Of Time, and the chamber was the Fire Temple's boss room. I'd sort of expected being able to wander around and find wonderful random things like that, so I was a little disappointed with that, though the game was long.
Some things felt a bit half finished. Like the scarecrows by Lake Hylia, that would record a song and then play it back to you. I felt there was something there that wasn't completed, and I noticed it in other little niggles. Proud to say I managed to get the 30lb fish, though.

I force myself to beat this game once a year, it's by far the best RPG game I have ever played.
Favorite Temple - Spirit (That boss is SO FUN)
Least Favorite - Water (Hate EVERYTHING in this hell hole)
What was the boss in the Spirit Temple? All I remember is the cool look outside it, and the light moving and stuff.

Usually Hookshot or Longshot on the left, Megaton Hammer on the bottom and Ocarina on the right. Sometimes I put the Bow on the bottom. I don't like putting anything important on the right, because it feels too remote.

The Scarecrow's Song can be used to reach remote platforms. A scarecrow will appear where applicable, and you can Longshot onto it.
So right now I've started both the Spirit Temple and Shadow Temple, and I'm not sure which one to complete first. The Shadow Temple's easier, but the Spirit Temple is more enjoyable.
Justin

Are you supposed to do Spirit before Shadow? Since the song is before it in the game. But I always thought Shadow was before Spirit... that's the way it is in the guidebook.

Shadow before spirit. It was probably never fixed when they changed the Temples around. There originally was a sky and ice temple

Kind of. Well, you have to do Forest Temple first for the bow/hookshot. Then you can skip Fire I guess, but you need the longshot from the Water Temple for Shadow and Spirit.

Eh not really.
You need the bow in pretty all temples so Forest first.
You need the Hammer to complete Water, so Fire goes before Water.
I can't remember, but you probably need the longshot somewhere in either Shadow or Spirit, and you need the hover boots to cross the desert(I think?)
So the order is pretty much set from there.
Shadow before spirit. It was probably never fixed when they changed the Temples around. There originally was a sky and ice temple
My guess is the Ice Temple became the Ice Cavern and who knows what happened to the Sky Temple.
They probably found the whole 3 + 7 + Ganon's Tower would be too much of a rip of of LTTP so they scrapped a couple temples. That's my guess anyways.

This game is so ****ing addicting. I remember first playing it years ago on N64 since I used to rent it from Blockbuster. I now own the computer ROM version of it and play it on occasion.
I still remember shooting my own horse at the ranch with my bow-and-arrow. It sits there and neighs every time you do it.
And for some reason I LOVED "Epona's Song" so much that I tabbed it out by ear and played it on guitar. :thumb:

Gerudo Valley - Go to the first part, the area where you cross the bridge to find the spot with the Carpenter's Tent. Go to the VERY left hand side, and look straight down. You should spot part of a ledge. Drop down, and if you were right against the wall, you should now be on that ledge. Go to the end, near the rock, and look across the canyon. Use your Longshot on the crate, then break it open with either a bomb or roll. Inside is another piece of Heart. As young Link, you can also use the Cucco that is wandering about.

although i did find some pretty crazy rumors about the game, like one that said you could get a fire, ice, wind, and earth sword (that would be pretty cool) and another that said if you get a certain item you can get into the sky temple and fight a tougher ganon with a different ending, and one that said you could find the pegasus boots in the desert
