My wife is a really really talented singer. I bought her, her own computer, and would like to some how rig up her recording studio. I know alot of stuff is done with hardware like "mixers and such". I know some people do it through computer software. I would prefer the a latter. What do I need to buy ? Good sound card...mixing software? Good Microphone? Anything would help. We want her to cut her own CD.

Thanks

If you picked up a Tascam US122 interface, a T-bone condenser microphone, a mic stand and a pop filter, you have all you need to make high quality recordings, for a decent price.

With the tascam US122 interface moaner mentioned (Which by the way is excellent) you have no need for a soundcard as the microphone signal is preamplified, converted to digital and sent through usb to the computer, all in the interface itself. Moaner's list of equipment is right on. Although occasionally you might desire you had some dynamics control at tracking phase, in which case the behringer mdx2600 will work wonders. But go with Moaner's list until you find this is a problem.

Also check out the Edirol UA 25, a good alternative to the tascam :thumb:

I use a Lexicon Omega - $299 new with software - $150 on ebay. Gives you 4 channels of audio into the computer - 2 mic pre-amps with phantom power. As far as a decent mic - look at the MXL 990 from Mucisiansfriend.com. Great sound and only @$60. You should be in business for $200.

I've read alot of reviews that say the Omega has USB driver issues. Like, they make the M-Audio USB units look like steadfast systems.

You haven't had any problems at all?
