Recently I went with my band to a local venue to try and book a gig.But the guy at the bar didn't wanna risk it (I don't know what 'it' was) so he asked us for a demo.We had recorded 3 demos on my friends computer a while ago so we gived him that.A few days later we got a call saying we couldn't play because our song titles were so bad.The 8 tracks we sent were called:

Mick Jagger
(Heros For A)Weak Generation
Leaves On The Ground
Silent House
Counting Down The Hours
Dig Yourself Out
Wind In The Wires
Lost In The City

The only one I could see anyone caring about is "Mick Jagger" but even that is no big deal. The other's seem fine to me.

**** that venue...

That title comes from watching videos of the Rolling Stones peforming live and thinking how great the opening songs always were.We wanted a song like Start Me Up or Brown Sugar. No long fussy intros just a song that went bang in your face and started the gig off really well.We named it Mick Jagger in his honour. But the original title was 'At The Creek'.

I don't see any problem with it.

There was probably another reason that he didn't want to mention for some reason. Or maybe you misheard him and what he said was that your songs sucked.

No I do remember the conversation perfection. Here's what happened (some content removed for legal reasons).

(Ring Ring)
Me:Hello
Gig Guy:Hi it's 'Mr.Black' here from 'random gig venue'
Me:Oh what did you think of the demo
Gig Guy:Yeah the demo was great
Me:Thanks man
Gig Guy:Your welcome. It's just one thing.
(Silence)
Gig Guy:The title of your songs are a bit off
Me:How do you mean
Gig Guy:There pretty bad mate. It's bad enough we're putting a band of kids on.
Me:KIDS!!
Gig Guy:Yeah Kids!
Me:So your canceling the gig all because of the song title.
Gig Guy:Yeah the venue's new and putting a bunch of 15 16 year olds on playing songs called Mick Jagger is a bit of a bad start for us.
Me:****!
Gig Guy:It's really just the song titles change them and your booked.
Me:**** Off
Gig Guy:Come on don't be like that
Me:Your a arsehole you know that
Gig Guy:Calm down kid
Me:Kid! Your Fuc...(Line goes dead!)

I quite like your song names. Lost in the City seems like a slightly emoish name, unless that's what you're looking for. I wouldn't worry. Mick Jagger? My guitarist wrote a riff that he thought sounded like Slayer. The song ended up being called "Slayer". No one cares! Here's a list of some of our songs, and how we got them.

Wicked Ones (Black Sabbath's"Wicked World" and Foo-Fighters' "The One")
Tree of Genocide (A random phrase my vocalist made up)
Slayer (sounded kinda like a Slayer song. Also,mentioned/screamed in chorus)
Fortress (I havn't a clue. He just said it was called Fortress)
The Rarebreed (Ozzy's band before sabbath)

Don't change your song names. They're good as they are.

I think your conversation went the same way mine would have. "Mr. Black" is an a$$. "It's really just the song titles change them and your booked." ? Yeah, okay. I might do that for a producer but for Mr. A$$hat at the Douchehole venue? Oooooooo, what a career advancement opportunity. Yeah I don't think so.

There are two kinds of people in the booking business - Agents and Asshats.

Who you encountered was an asshat. Although, if that's truly how your conversation went, you can say goodbye to that venue for good, and you probably lost kudos with whoever he's contacted with.

Remember kids, don't lower yourselves to the level of an asshat! :naughty:

i dont think the tieles are bad. I just think hes an inexperianced club owner who thinks he can get sued for somebody saying mick jager. Screw him man.

I would have handled it differently though. I would have been like ok, i changed the name. Then introduce it as mick jager as your last song..lol. He probobly would have pulled the plug on ya. At that point you just started building some controversy and hype. I bet you would have had a bunch of new fans at your next show lol

It sounds lik he was just looking for an excuse not to let a bunch of 16 year olds play.
