Yeah, the first game was ace. Complex and tough, but great.

Pratchett's incredible. Sucks that Josh Kirby died, his art was part of the experience of the books :(

Who remembers the cartoon series?

I remember they did Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters, and they bothed rocked.

I wish they would make a Discworld movie, that would rock. But who could play Rincewind?

Chris K

it would have to be animated, obviously, and they'd have to get the guy who voiced him in the first game to do the voices.

Was it just me, or did he sound a bit like Rik Mayall?

It was Eric Idle, of Monty Python fame.

Do you mean CGI animation or traditional 2D animation?

Chris K

2D animation, no crappy CGI. It should look just like the first discworld game.

Just what I was thinking, I think an animated Colour Of Magic movie would rock so hard. I'm calling Hollywood.

See you auntie!

Great books (my favorite is Pyramids) but the Discworld adventure I played was plagued with bugs and incredibly tough.

Played the Game and read some of the books.

Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors.

'Soul Music' made me laugh.
I think there was something to do with a bell and a horse-radish that was *particuarly funny...

The game was incredibly tough, some of the puzzles were so abstract as well, I had to get a guide to finish the game.

I only finished Discworld 2, I downloaded the first one but it didnt had sound (which is the best part about the whole game) so I had to delete it.
Anyone remembers the easter egg In the 2nd one? where you could meet Rincewind from the first Discworld?

Pratchett books are excellent, although I wasn't massively impressed by 'thief of time' for some reason. He is certainly good enough to justify the criticism he aimed at JK Rowling. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts/4732385.stm)

I liked the discworld games, though I am having problems running discworld noir in windows 2k.

Yeah, played all of the discworld games, they were awesome. Discworld 1 was definitely obscure with it's puzzles, but I liked that and the humour was great.

Rincewind should, nay, MUST be played by Richard E. Grant. Think about it. He would make a FANTASTIC Rincewind.

The 'Death' books are by far the best... especially soul music. Recently, the 'Watch' books have taken a very unusual dark turn, especially in "Night Watch'

I don't care about the games, I want to know what the books are all about. And it's better to know the plot/setting from someone who has actually read it than by some site.

it's set on a world that is flat. disc-shaped in fact. and the disc is held up by four elephants, who stand on the back of a giant turtle called Great A'Tuin.

you have different story-threads - the 'Rincewind' books follow a wizard who is, well, rubbish at wizardry, and he sorta travells around the Discworld.
The 'Witches' books follow a coven of three (and later four) witches, who live in the Ramtops, a mountain range near the centre of the disc.
The 'Watch' books follows the City Watch of the largest city on the disc, Ankh-Morpork.
And the 'Death' books are about the Grim Reaper, and often his granddaughter (by adoption), Susan.

Tis good. If you're Australian, read 'The Last Continent' (though you should probably read the Rincewind books in order)

EDIT: That wasn't there when I started typing this out. Nevermind, mine goes into a bit more detail.

The books follow a series of adventures by a number of different characters that live on the Discworld.

The Discworld is a flat, pizza shaped world that rests on the back of four giant elephants, who them selves stand on the back of the star turtle, Great A'Tuin.

It is a world that mirrors many of the conventions of our own, and is best described as a parody of a fantasy world. There are wizards, witches, elves, dwarfs, trolls, and many other fantasy creatures.

The books are of a comedic, satirical nature with many of the novels parodying a feature of our own world, such as rock music, Hollywood, the press, or most recently the postal service.

The books can be split up into catagories according to which character/characters they follow, as such:

Rincewind Novels (R) These follow the adventures of Rincewind, an inept wizard who can't even spell 'wizard', and who's greatest talent is running away.

Witches Novels (W) These follow a coven of witches made up of Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg.

City Watch Novels (CW) These follow the Ankh Morpork City Watch as they solve crimes and mysteries. These books are usually written as detective novels.

Death Novels (D) These follow the adventures of Death, The Grim Reaper, and his granddaughter Susan.

There are also other novels that don't pertain to these categories but often feature cameos from the main characters. (M)

Books published so far in the series:

The Colour Of Magic (R)
The Light Fantastic (R)
Equal Rites (W)
Mort (D)
Sourcery (R)
Wyrd Sisters (W)
Pyramids (M)
Guards! Guards! (CW)
Eric (R)
Moving Pictures (M)
Reaper Man (D)
Witches Abroad (W)
Small Gods (M)
Lords And Ladies (W)
Men At Arms (CW)
Soul Music (D)
Interesting Times (R)
Maskerade (W)
Feet Of Clay (CW)
Hogfather (D)
Jingo (CW)
The Last Continent (R)
Carpe Juggulum (W)
The Fifth Elephant (CW)
The Truth (M)
Thief Of Time (D/M)
The Last Hero (R/Illustrated)
Night Watch (CW)
Monstrous Regiment (M)
Going Postal (M)
Thud (Unreleased) (CW)

New Vimes?!
YES!

Pffft

Vimes has been given too much prominence in the series as of late, IMO.

I want more books like Pyramid and Small Gods, creating whole new areas of the Discworld and whole new races/religions etc. Although, that being said, I was thoroughly dissapointed with Monstorous Regiment.

YES!

Yes, apparently its going to be partly a Da Vinci Code parody.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thud%21

I wonder why it's been released in America before the UK?

I agree there has been many City Watch novels lately, but Night Watch was excellent, his best in ages. I also didn't think much of Monstrous Regiment, it just didn't draw me in enough.

I hope he writes another Rincewind novel to follow up Thud.

Favourites anyone?

Mine is probably a mix up between Hogfather and The Last Continent.

Discworld Noir (the third discworld game) is without a doubt the best adventure game I've ever played.. The mix of discworld, and noir.. (and an H.P Lovecraft inspired ending) works amazingly well...

My favourite Discworld book has to be The 5th Elephant. I've enjoyed that hugey over the last 5 years and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

I played Discworld Noir and I got onto the second disc but I couldn't figure out what to do in a certain part of it which I don't remember... I DO remember getting through most of the game by looking at the script in the Wordpad file on the CD and trying to figure out which action could trigger which bit!
