I do. I'm obsessed with competative battling (Netbattle :/ ). When i first bought the game after being a massive fan of Yellow version i was having trouble, i signed up to GameFAQS forums, and hell before you know i'm hooked. There is alot of depth in the games and strategy. Hell, it has alot more strategy than FF games (which i love).
Yes it is sugar-coated with the anime and stuff and seemingly marketed for kids but hell, I can only remember two games i've been hooked on with as much strategy and variation as Pokemon, that's Advance Wars and Chess. Most people shrug it off, but the potential it has to hook even 18+ year olds is amazing. It is far harder to be an expert on pokemon than it is on alot of other games, and I think people should realize that Pokemon, at it's core, is a strategy games that is impossible to master.

I played Blue a lot, got all 151 pokemon and had about 15 level 100s (without cheating). Never got round to buying Gold/Silver because I'm always sceptical of sequels, and kinda stopped there.

The 2nd gen are ofte regarded as the worst of all the RPG's, but the new ones allow so much creativity, through selective breeding/effective movesets/Alot of oftenly ignored values (personalities - which raise one stat by 10% and lowers another by 10%) and the crapload of other hidden values.
Then you go battle other people on the net and that's where your true abilities show...

This is probably obvious, but how do you go about doing this? It sounds interesting...
And an even stupider question - which pokemon rpgs are the new ones?

my little brother has around 6 or 7 of em..I stopped after I pwned yellow version.
My bro has Blue, but I have Yellow, Gold, and Silver. I love them all, but I must admit, they get boring near the end, because it's impossible to have 6 Pokemon on higher levels than the gym leaders.

Download netbattle there, but unless you read some online or compettive battling guides you'll get annihalated by anyone who has.

That's the sort of ignorance that lead most people to not even try the games.
Ruby/Saphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green are the new ones.
FRLG are remakes of the first series with alot of extra crap added after you finish the Elite 4, but essentially it's the same upto then.
And the new gen is quite good. Sure there are now 386 (IIRC) but the variety and the many diffrent challenges really keep you hooked.
