The first MGS game was awesome, it blew everything away. I can still remember gettin owned by metal gear.
oh and its not Big Boss but Snake. The Game is set a few years after Sons of Liberty..The "Eyepatch" is a sort of eye-monitor which Snake uses to watch the view through a camera-robot.
(And Big Boss' patch is on his right eye if I`m not mistaking)

Looks really good, but as usual, they've already completely ruined it by replacing the character, why can't they understand that the only character us gamers want to play is Solid Snake?

When the Les Enfants Terrible project took place, they used Big Boss's cells from when he was old. This will cause The Les Enfants to age and deteriorate much faster than normal. Thus Snake is looking much older.
spot on.
You'll also see Snake injecting something into himself in the upper-right screenshot from the first picture..looks like an antidote or something.

But in the few-year gap between MGS 1 and 2 he looked basically the same.

I knew it. Famitsu gets all the good Japanese games first. The latest issue contains so much juice it'll get you wet. I mean it. Wear a bib as you read on.
First, Metal Gear Solid 4 for PS3 is announced for real and new art and screens seem to show Snake as...an aging cop? That's what I gather from the grey moustache and the wrinkles. Is this Solid Snake from the future? A brief interview with Kojima mentions that there will be psychological elements at play in the game. If you intimidate the enemy AI, for example, they may get spooked and be less likely to fire back.
If you've seen the scans floating around the web, you've seen Solid Snake an old man looking closer to actor Sean Connery than your classic Snake. With Big Boss' picture having shown up in the early artwork and this 'new' Snake wearing an futuristic eye-patch - we're not 100% sure who this really is. Is Kojima up to his old tricks again?
In a short interview with Famitsu, Kojima says MGS4 "...is a game for the old people. As a game designer in my 40s, I feel this is something I really need to do. I'll leave the teenage coming of age stories for my younger staff."
The setting for MGS4 is an intense battlefield with soldiers, tanks, and mini versions of the Metal Gear Rex walking the streets on patrol. A scientist we're guessing is none other than geek Otacon is also shown in the early screens.
What about everybody's favorite hero Raiden? Don't count him out yet. "This time around Raiden is really cool. He's completely changed. You'll see him in the TGS trailer."
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/650/650853p1.html
September 14, 2005 - In its last issue, Famitsu promised that its upcoming issue would feature the worldwide scoop on Metal Gear Solid 4, and sure enough, that's what we've gotten in this week's issue. The magazine offers a first look at the PS3 sequel, complete with details that we're sure will be solidified once the Tokyo Game Show opens its doors on Friday and we're able to view Konami's MGS4 trailer.
The magazine actually shares just a handful of details on the game itself, leaving most of the talking to the screenshots, which show one of the most realistic real time displays ever set to the game screen. In the screenshots, Snake -- or whom we believe to be Snake -- is revealed to be an old timer this time. The old character wields a gun and assumes Snake-like stealth poses in some shots. He's also shown interacting with a robot known as Metal Gear Mark II. If you've played one of Kojima's lesser known series, Snatcher, you'll recognize this robot, as it has appeared in that series in the past.
Raiden will also return, series producer Hideo Kojima reveals to the magazine. The new Raiden will apparently be so cool that you'll rethink your opinion of the Raiden from MGS2. The TGS trailer will give us a first look at Raiden's next generation debut.
Screenshots also show what appears to be an Otacon-like character -- that is, a guy with glasses appears in the shots and he looks just like one would expect Otacon to. Although, he's far more detailed than previous Otacon characters have been thanks to the new power at the hands of Kojima Productions. And, like the new Snake, he looks a bit older this time around.
Aside from character differences, MGS4 promises some changes in world structure. The world of Metal Gear Solid 4 is meant to be a war zone. While this was said of previous MGS games, this time you'll totally feel it. As you move through the game world, you'll see tanks, soldiers and fighter robots everywhere, indicating that you really are in a war zone.
In comments with the magazine, Kojima shared some ideas on what went into the creation of MGS4. First, according to Kojima, the game's philosophy went from "real" to "natural." As an example of this, Kojima suggests that the exclamation marks, that in past MGS games have indicated when an enemy has discovered the player, may disappear from the game. MGS4 is apparently capable of expressing such an event naturally, based on the facial expressions and the motions of the enemy.
The change to a more "natural" Metal Gear Solid takes on another form, Kojima reveals. Enemies, and the way in which you view enemies, will have greater dimension than the typical two dimensions of past games. Kojima doesn't reveal specifics, but does cite examples of Snake arriving in a battle field where country A and country B are fighting. Even though just two countries are fighting, it's possible that within one of the countries, there are different organizations that have different views and are also at odds with one another. What if Snake were to kill an A country solider. Wouldn't B country become Snake's ally? Kojima promises that we'll better understand this idea once we've seen the TGS trailer.
In addition to multidimensional enemies, Kojima promises a new element of psychological warfare with MGS4. In past installments, enemies have simply targeted the player with attacks, something that Kojima refers to as being unnatural. Kojima asks, what if the enemy were to threaten the player -- what kind of psychological effect would that have on the player's concentration and ability to move? Sadly, he doesn't go into specifics.
The shots revealed in the magazine are images running on actual PS3 hardware, and as impressive as they are, they will get better, according to Kojima's comments. While the images in the magazine are pulled from a demonstration clip, the world of MGS4 that you'll control when playing the game on the PS3 will look as good. And we assume the same can be said about the TGS trailer as a whole.
Expect to get your first look at Metal Gear Solid 4 once the trailer airs on Friday. Stay tuned IGNPS3 for more around that time.

heres a question though (now, keep in mind i havent played MGS2 or 3....but i have played the originals and MGS)
but how many times (and how much money can people invest) into such a seemly expensive armoured unit such as metal gear.....its just insane that Snake has to destroy...yet again, another metal gear
ahwell.....time to go find a copy of MGS2 i think
well, MGS1, 2 and 3 are pretty much a cohesive story, so play them :)

I've seen the trailer like 5 times now and I didn't see raiden at all? Or maybe he is there and i missed him? Either way i was one of those raiden haters back when sons of liberty came out but after i finished the game i didn't think he was that bad. O and about snake and being old and the 'stache I don't really mind that much because i know snake is still gonna be a badass. If you could get something in the game to shave it off though I probably would. Also don't forget that everytime we thought Kojima couldn't throw us another crazy plot twist he ends up doing just that and I remember liquid wanting the remains of big boss. Maybe he gets them and makes some vaccine to cure them of the advanced aging? Just a thought but I think we might see young snake again, you just never know what is going to happen in metal gear :naughty: man i love these games.

the "funny" trailer is on gamespot. Its got nothing to do with showing off the new game..more "setting" the scene. This game looks kick arse.
Im guessing raiden will be like a back up character eg both of you work together to destroy a camp and you have choices of where the characters go etc.
or something like sniper bit in mgs2.

I have an old EGM(Electronic Gaming Monthly) Magazine, and they talk about MGS4 in it. Here is what they said about the "nowhere to hide" bit.
"It does not mean that you don't need to hide. It will be a stealth game, like the ones we've produced in the past. Yo do need to hide. That is the purpose of the game. The concept behind the "no place to hide" is as you saw in the trailer: There was a building and then it was bombed, and suddenly there was no cover. That's the concept... there is no safety zone. According to the environment, things will always be changing, and there might be conditions where there is literally nowhere to hide."
I hope that makes everyone feel a little bit better. It seems like it'll be wicked hard, in my opinion.

You know, except that Snake will still be old.

It will most probably be his remains, or they've cloned him... again...
Snake was created by cloning Big Boss's cells, but BB was very old when they did that. It resulted in Snake's age progressing extremely rapidly.
It also explains why Octacon hasn't ages much compared to Snake.

I learned somewhere that the eyepatch is some kind of night vision thing. I don't know if its that, but I know he doesn't have it because he lost his eye or something like that
MrConeman
09-24-2005, 03:34 PM
Yes whoever mentiond the rapid aging is right, do you people even play the games...bear with me here
Liquid, Solidus and Solid all born (created rather) AT THE SAME TIME , fathered (cloned rather) from THE SAME PERSON, yet no one here wondered why Solidus looks much older than Solid and Liquid ever did in MGS2, these three clones have a rapid aging problem, it kicks in for each of them at a different time Solidus got it first obviously, and now its kicking in for Solid Snake, so it doesnt mean this game is set in any distant future, how could it?, the concept art clearly shows everyone else as being their regular age or slightly older with Otacons greys coming through a little.
They eye-patch over Snakes eye is not actualy an eye-patch he hasnt lost an eye or gone blind, its a device called the 'Solid-Eye' it will possibly replace his binoculars (as seen in the trailer...proving hes not blind in that eye aswell I might add) thermal goggles and night vision.
Something else I'd like to quell would be rumours that the main character is not Solid Snake, it clearly is Snake, just rapid aged older and with a device over his eye, not the same eye Big boss had an eye patch over so stop thinking its him, not only that but hes officialy dead so it might be a little hard for it to be him, not only that but Otacon talks to him from the mini Metal Gear Otacon only personally knew Solid Snake.
Another thing I'd like to put an end to, the trailer doesnt say 10 years it says "X years" X being a variable...has anyone learned algebra?! its not confirmed how many years later it is.
Thank you for your time, stop being silly.
Looks awesome. I find MGS games to be very difficult though.

You don't know if they are referring to the variable or the Roman Numeral. And, anways, in algebra, a lower-cased x is known as the variable. While if it was a lower-cased x, we would know for sure if it was a variable, but if it was an upper-cased X it, obviously, is referring to Roman Numerals. And if you learned how to read, you would know that Snake has the aging disorder from when he was cloned from Big Boss. And Otacon looks quite a bit older too. And don't be such a prick. So explain that one... dickhead.

Its so blindingly obvious that it isnt 10 years away even thinking it is frankly stupid, but this is all I'm going to say on the subject if people want to beleive its a Roman Numeral go right ahead :)

I really don't think you know how to read.
First off. How would you know what every other character looks like when it has only shown Otacon and Snake? Tow characters. And this picture definitely doesn't look slightly older.

Just say that you're just making crap up without virtually anything to back you up with. Just basing something off concept art that you can barely get you any idea of what the people actually look like in the game isn't a fromittable argument. Hell, the conecept art for solid snake and Otacon looks nothing like it does in the trailer and pictures. So I will say once again, stop pulling **** out of your ***.

Why does Hideo do whatever he does? He makes 40 minute cut-scenes and plenty of plot twists in one scene to make your head hurt for days.
The idea behind Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 completely changed from their initial ideas, and concept art, so it could all be changed, and all of us could be wrong.
I personally don't give a toss, you can all think what you like. I never even said i thought it was 10 years after MGS2, I just said X is 10 in roman numerals, which is why some people may think that its set 10 years after MGS2.

I've played some of it. Did they make it much worse then? the controls in MGS1 annoyed me though cos I played Sons of Liberty and then it was like wft no shooting in first person? how am I gonna play now *cries* but what I played of Twin Snakes seemed okay. I heard that its actually a few years after Big Shell. The reason snake is so old is becuase the ageing side effects, that happen to the clones of big boss, has finally kicked into Solid. Thats why Solidus looked so old, because the ageing side effects kicked in earlier.

The way Snake dodges Metal gears bullets, when ocelot shoots him, and when he jumps onto the rocket... It totally ruined Snakes image, they made him act like Neo... Just as stupid to boot.

I didn't like Twin Snakes as much as the original. The controls felt weird on GC and it just didn't feel the same. The music was crap too. However the scene after you kill Raven was absolutely brilliant in twin snakes, and the scene where Ninja cuts the bullet in half.
