Hi I'm a guitarist that's recorded on my digitech GNX3 several times before with decent results, but I was just looking throught a junk room at my school's music suite and found an old sony tape recorder (like with the two big reels of tape), a few nice big stereo cassette players, and a decent looking 4 track tascam portastudio with 8 channels of mixing capability. My music teacher has told me to go ahead, borrow any of it (they were going to throw some of it away) but I was wondering if these three items would result in a better recording when used in conjunction with my GNX3. Thoughts on if I should use them or not? If so what would you recommend the setup to be? Thanks for any advice.

Just give it a try and see how it turns out. It's not like you're really putting too much money into it.

You have the greatest music teacher in the world to let you borrow unwanted school property. When I was in school they just would said F you get back to class, so enjoy what you got. I use analog and it really makes you work at what you do cause there is less ability to touch up. I might just be stupid though and not know how to perfect analog.
