I've been looking around at software, and I cant quite figure out what the diference between an Audio Editor (eg, Sound Forge, Wavelab), and a Sequencer (Eg, Sonar, Cubase).

I can see the obvious differences, as Sonar is more of a song arranger, but I dont think you can multitrack record in Sound Forge, so whats the purpose of them both, and how do they work together?

At a guess, you record into Sonar, then export the tracks into Sound Forge to clean them up, add general EQ and compression, and add any envelopes/fades etc, then import them all back into Sonar, arrange them as you want, and then add any other VST effects, and maybe extra EQ to seperate guitar sounds etc if need be?

Anyone got any advice on this?

Thanks, Gaz

Audio editors you can change sounds on. My friend's dad has a small recording studio and he has one. It's great, I wish I had the program, it's like having 329843 pedals for guitar.

And sequencers just sequence music. I don't have much experience with those programs but FL Studios is a sequencer. You just put songs together basically. That's all it does. And you can use them together by playing something editing and importing it into a sequencer. Although, unless you're doing like electronic music, it's much easier to just have a program that edits audio and has a multitrack thing so you can just put the song together with one program. Rather than importing a bunch of tracks into a sequencer.
