Sooooo ive been waiting almost 9 months for my guitar to be in, and its finally here!!
so where shall we start
Durability 5/5
this guitar is a hard rocking tough beast, it is heavy, and the tuners are magnificent, the strings have been in tune for about 2 months straight now, so thats an effort within itself!
Everything is secured on properly (well wouldnt you expect that from gibson?) unlike a crappy second grade guitar thats been made from cheap wood to make a bit of money.
Playability 4.5/5
This guitar is a dream to play, the guitar has the most amazing neck, fretting is perfect, sliding up onto the 18-21 frets sounds absolutely astonishing.
it sounds VERY clear, and fretting the strings higher up on the neck is easier than you would think, the only downside is, when you are sitting down, the guitar seems to want to go toward your right, as most of the weight is in the butt of the guitar, but overall great playability.
Sound 5/5
The sound from this wood is phenomenal, the wood sings perfectly, and everything just sounds great together, even two completely different notes, that have no relevance to each other whatsoever, this guitar makes my small peavy rage 158 practice amp, sound amazing, no kidding, this guitar gives an AMAZING sound!
Pickups 4.5/5
The stock pickups are on the neck a 496R ceramic magnet humbucker and on the bridge a 500T ceramic magnet humbucker.
these humbuckers sound VERY good for stock, i was going to make a decision wether or not to put EMG's on it, but i have been told, the stock pickups, as they age start to get a better tone after about ten years or so, either way im happy.
Overall 4.9/5
This guitar is an awesome buy, you will fall in love with it, with only a few negatives like the weight of the guitar, and so on, this is one sexy axe, which I reccomend to SERIOUS players!!!!!!!!
Thanks

Why did you make 2 threads?
Anyways, i've been wanting to try out a classic. Customs have always been my thing, cause my store always holds em'. Anyways, post pics and good luck w/ your guitar.

the ckassic is my fav out of the bunch. and I agree the stock pups are great.
way way better than the burstbuckers im stuck with on my Std. I'll be upgrading those real soon prob to the 469/500's or a pair of super D's

i love my classic too. The weight and the problem with playing while you sit down, is something you just have to get used to. Now i would rather sit down with my lp than a strat for instance. :P
What colour is yours?

i ahve an epiphone classic, and it still kicks ass theres not huge amounts of difference between the high end epiphones and some of the gibsons, mainly just price and the name at the top lol, other than that they are all very good quality
I have a Gibson LP Standard, and I love it to bits. By the way, you forgot to mention looks - LPs look stunning IMO!
Like you said, about the only downside is that it's really uncomfortable to play sitting down (compared to my Strat, which is just a breeze to pick up and play). But that's not really much of an issue seeing as 90% of the time, I play standing up. When I sit down to practice excercises etc. acoustically I use my Strat as I don't want to risk damaging my LP by using it around the house unnecessarily!

No, I wouldn't expect that from Gibson actually. You're rather lucky that you found a good Gibson seeing as how their quality control is very random and horrible these days. It's a shame really. Good review though. Although I would suggest describing tones, etc. in more detail instead of just saying "amazing". But still a good review.

I'd say the Classics sound much better than the Standards, even though it is down to taste. When I was playing them both before I got my Classic I had my heart set on a standard but just hearing that neck pickup on the Classic... eargasm.

EMG's would totally ruin the tone of the Les Paul....which is essentially what most people buy Les Paul's for. I'm not saying EMG's sound bad, but you could put EMG's in a $100 dollar Squier, and a several thousand dollar Les Paul and have the tone basically sound the same.

I have a Gibson LP Custom, 1980 black with gold hardware. The sound out of this baby is amazing although I find at times its very bottom-end heavy through my JCM900. I wouldn't trade in this little guitar for anything ever!
Definately do NOT change the pickups! When buying my guitar one thing I didn't even need to check was the tone. Its the one thing you can definately rely on to be perfect! :)

Ya know something, SHUT UP! Your jibber-jabber makes no sense to me! Everyone has their own opinion, why can't you respect that?
By the way threadstarter, nice review. I wish I could have the money to buy a Gibson. But for now I'm happy with my Epiphone Les Paul Classic.

So why did you rate the sound and then the pickups? The sound comes from the pickups.
Anyways, Those are brilliant (though slightly overpriced) guitars. I'm happy for you.

Uhhh, yeah....I'm sure your LP is great, all I was saying is that you are lucky you found a good Gibson that you like...and their Q.C. HAS gone downhill. I was just stating a fact. I do OWN a beautiful '96 Gibson LP Studio(back when they were all made solid and flawless) along with an LTD Viper, Washburn Dimebag Darrell model(not the cheap one), $1000. Acoustic, Fender Strat, Mesa Dual Rec, Carvin MTS 3200, JCM800, Line 6 POD pro, a couple $400. basses, a Fender combo amp, and other rack gear...so don't f ucking tell me that I can't afford gear. I work my *** off to pay for my gear. I was stating a fact and most people on here would agree with me. Yes, SOME Gibsons are nice...but some suck too. How old are you anyway?

Oh, I see...you're 15...that explains alot. And you work at McDonalds. So mommy bought you all your gear. Nice.
By the way, I'm not bashing all 15 year olds. My parents helped me buy gear when I was in high school...but this kid is a dick and he deserves it.

What? Obviously if he works at McDonalds he's making the money to buy his own gear. If anyone is the dick, I'm pretty certain it's you for bashing his review.

good reading here, always been a Strat dude, until I inherited a '75 Les Paul custom it's the three pickup model, Man does this guitar have tone and sustain, unbelieveable.... It weighs a ton and is somewhat uncomfortable but for playing slide it is unmatched.... the pick ups are so hot that it will break up my speaker in my old Fender Deluxe at very low volume so very good for practising at home... I am a giant Gibson fan now !!:thumb:
