They are very good in my mind. Its a nice different sound from your everyday punk bands. Great songs:
T.S.R.
Rice and Bread
Turn those clapping hands...
You Look Like I Need a Drink
..and anything off the eternal cowboy cd

Reinventing Axl Rose was a much better album.

And a Brief but Triumphant Intermssion is better than any song on As the eternal cowboy.

Don't lose touch is a horrible song. And maybe some of his old fans turned on him. We didn't need an album with at least five songs where he addresses said issue like its the worst thing in the world. Or we get songs such as Pretty Girls and Problems (possibly their worst lyrical effort, seriously, look at the lyrics, you'll think your little brother wrote them.)

Wow, a few people don't like you, thats how it is being famous. Is Tom going to release a crappy album everytime someone talks s'hit about him?

I completley agree. But I guess Tom was just writing what he felt at the time. Songs like "Mediocrity Gets You Pears", "From Her Lips to Gods Ears" and "Even At Our Worse Were Still Better Than Most" really make up for it, to me anyway. The only thing I'm still mad about is how the back-up vocals sound, and how they ruined "Violence" by slowing it down.

I kind of like Problems still, even after they ruined it by slowing it down and overproducing. And you're right, "Pretty Girls" is the worst song Tom has ever written lyrically, but the music is fairly energetic so I can tolerate it.

What do you think Problems is about anyways? "Sometimes it's like conversations are a waking dream from a third party perspective. An audience to theself, you can almost see the sound traveling. It's caused a feeling of anticipation when all of a sudden you know what's going to happen. These are the paranoias, they rebuild your world, they neither eat nor sleep, they have no name."

Some of us think the album sucked, some of us don't. It has nothing to do with selling out, it has to do with making a bad album.

Personally, I think the 'stolen demo' was much better. That would have been cool had they just added a few more songs to that. It would be probably just as quality as say, As the Eternal Cowboy, but still be exploring some new sound.

I'm sure you've heard great things about them, but I'm also pretty sure the albums 'Reinventing Axl Rose' or 'Crime', or possibly even 'As The Eternal Cowboy' were mentioned as well. Dude, I never said i hate them. But now I do go back on what I said. I actually don't mind the video that much. I was just suprised that they made one cos ive never really seen them as a band that would, with their politics and songs about humility. I'm over it. Personally, I think the 'stolen demo' was much better. That would have been cool had they just added a few more songs to that. It would be probably just as quality as say, As the Eternal Cowboy, but still be exploring some new sound.

Oh, but Sid, you started the bandwagon. I'm trying to get you company! And you're trying to lecture me for addressing something that came up in this thread? You're a moron, I knew that before reading this post, but good god Sid. "No one called them sell outs, besides that one guy, so we're just whining about how Tom is a better writer than us, but not as good as he used to be!". Right. You rock. Go you. Woo-woo. Because that, in everyway, makes perfect, logical sense. I addressed something said, and you say it wasn't. But you still say it was.

Logic. Yeah. You used it there.

Wow, a few people don't like you, thats how it is being famous. Is Tom going to release a crappy album everytime someone talks s'hit about him?

Yeah, Tom, you loser! Way to write about things effecting you! You should be writing about things you've never experienced and revolution! Geez...

Don't lose touch is a horrible song.

Yeah! It sucks! The music video sucks! Against Me! now sucks! They sold out! Losers!

(possibly their worst lyrical effort, seriously, look at the lyrics, you'll think your little brother wrote them.)

Yeah! They suck!

You know Sid, I'd like to see you start a band that is better than Against Me!, then you can complain about lacking lyrics and guitar parts all you want. I'll even agree.

Til then, shut up.

Hilarious reply to everything I said

Oh so I have to start a band better than against me! to not like their new music? I don't like Bush (or any politician for that matter) either, do I have to become a better president than him to not to like him? More Brilliant logic from captain f'ucktard, great work. Yeah I'm the idiot, hahahaha. Everyone give this man a hand.

I don't like Against Me's new album. It's my personal opinion, not a f'ucking bandwagon. I don't care if anyone agrees with me. No one else's opinion on the matter affects my experience.

Again, I haven't said they sold out, I'm not sure why you keep bringing that up. They changed their ideas. That's it. Do want me to say they sold out that bad? Just drop it.

And yes, it's pathetic he wrote all these songs about what a bunch of kids on the internet think of him. Again, opinion. Deal with it.

Okay, you know other fans are going to get into them. You're aware of the scenesters that are on myspace, yes? And who was it that posted that the video is going on MTV (or already has)? Maybe that was another thread/forum.

And the information could be wrong.

I don't even know if I want to see them. Singing along to lyrics that happen to be against me and the rest of the fans? I think not. Why in gods name would I sing Don't Lose Touch, if there's 'something wrong with the audience.'

Sounds like real fun.

Speaking of AM!

I'll be seeing them on the 18th, first stop of the Fat Tour.

How much stuff off the new album do you think will be played?

I know i'll probably love the new album, but i'm just familiarized with all the old stuff, and i'd rather hear things off of crime and whatnot in exchange for new songs.

Can anyone compose a makeshift set list, or what you think it will be like?

Thanks

i joined this thread kind of late but i just want to say ive been into against me since 2001-2002 when i was in 6th grade back then they didnt have internet sites about them no plyrics not even albums to purchase online unless you knew no idea records but ive just watched them for years now get bigger and have a much larger fan base every year. i loved them becuase they had great energy incredible lyrics heart and just great music. for me this was the band . when as the eternal cowboy came out they lost some of that it was still there but you can see they were already heading towards a professional look and sound on the album rather then the usual static for 10 seconds at the beggining of songs. i will always love this band but now there new stuff has changed. tom trys to have poetic lyrics like the older albums but it just isnt there i think now on the newest album it was more what the label and the producer wanted rather then against me's thought they didnt do it there way with a whole bunch of friends singing backing vocals and just having a good time. i also hope there shows now will still have the energy and crowd singing to there songs. i dont think they will change live, maybe dont go see them until there done supporting there new release because expect a lot of new songs which sound like pop rock dance tunes. i saw against me a year ago at starland already a big place for them to play even a year ago and half the crowd was there for the boucing souls they never even heard of against me! they have gotten a lot bigger since them people who dont like there new stuff and got into them with reinnventing axl rose or crime just let them do it they deserve to make a good living out of what they done there older albums make up for the big change and loss of energy and heart in there music

No. Someone starts calling me an idiot or some other obviously witty remark and then maybe I start in. You can't expect good conversation when someone doesn't argue your opinion but instead insults you for it.

But thats your whole thing isn't it cheeser? Hollow remarks and then insulting people's intelligence for having a different opinion than your own. This whole thread, all you've attempted to do is take shots at me. You are sadly shallow, and I really do feel sorry for you.

And so I retaliated with the same stupid comments. Can't expect anything more. It's just pathetic that since neither of you could argue against what I had to say, you resorted to trying to make me look stupid. Funny that you both failed and ended up looking stupid yourselves.

I'm done with this thread.

anyone ever see them live? i saw them last night in Tampa for the first time and i thought they were amazing. They started off with "Cliche Guevara" and went on to play "Rice and Bread", "Losing Touch", "Sink Florida Sink" "Those Anarcho Punx...", "Reinventing Axl Rose", "Turn Those Clapping Hands...", "You Look Like I Need A Drink", and more. They ended with "Pints of Guiness Make You Strong", which i think was a perfect ending song. They only played a few songs from the new cd, which was good since the new cd is mediocre campared to Reinventing Axl Rose or The Eternal Cowboy.

I like how they had tons of people on stage singing, dancing, and just watching from the back corner. they seemed like the nicest people in the world. They played with The Exit, whom i thought were pretty good, and William Elliot Whitmore, a guy with a banjo.

So talk about Against Me!, live or the new album, etc.

I like some songs from the new one but some are quite poor.

Miami is great.

Shutup. They don't care what their fans think.

I love 'em. I've been seriously starting sort of my own folk/punk band, mostly like them. I really dig the usage of the acoustic guitar, and the lyrics, especially the way they do them in "Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterios", are amazingly well written. Rhythmically awesome, verbally awesome, and an overall astounding band.

I've given Searching for a Former Clarity 3 full listens so far and I can say now that I like the album. Miami is a really good song. And if you just get past they've evolved away from folk-punk, it is a really well done album.

Violence. Yeah, it's boring and slow and not good.

I dislike Justin, From Her Lips..., Violence, and Even At Our Worst...
I don't like, but don't really dislike Mediocrity.., Pretty Girls, and Holy ****.
The rest, I like.

I like Pretty Girls and Justin, infact Justin is one of my favorites.

I like Justin somewhat, but the lyrics are pretty bad.

Holy S'hit is pretty good, that's what playing for me right now.

Worst song is Violence I'd say.

I like how low. It's folky.

But Violence is definately the worst song on the album, possibly the worst song ever composed by anyone, ever.

Also, I hate all these painfully slow, long, boring introductions to almost every song. It's like Sleep, only worse.

The album kind starts with a bang then goes down to a folky sound, it's quite odd. And Violence just ****s itself in the middle.

Get over it, Tom Gabel isn't an insecure, angry 17 year-old kid, like you anymore.

You know, I pointed it out that it was a perfectly innocent 'joke' beforehand so that the morons wouldn't feel the need to respond. Guess that didn't work.

I never called them sellouts (or whatever else) in that post either, I just said to download it. D'amn, so ready to internet battle me. Quit being an insecure, angry 17 year old kid (over the internet). If the glove fits, you know?

Anyway, I pulled out the Acoustic EP today. The version of Pints is better than the one on RAR.

Andrew does the "like ballots drifting into the ocean." This guy named Dave Chamberland helps with the backing vocals during the yelling of "MIAMI!"

Ah. That's cool.

There's a song somewhere with some vocals that definately sound like James, but I can't remember hwat song, or if it even exists. I'll get back to you on that.
