It's funny, in the 8th grade I listened to that album 3 or 4 times every day, and I claim that AM! are my favorite band (though not as much anymore) and I still constantly screw up lyrics.

Also, stop correcting me. What I say goes.

I think they will break up within the next couple years as well. I don't hope they do by any means, as (I believe) they are still putting out 'good' music. I guess I'm just one of those people that thinks it's better to fade away than burn out.

The last album was average. It was a decent pop-punk album but their EPs and RAR show that they're capable of so much more. They've lost their former clarity and I'll doubt they'll get it back.

I agree completely, but y'know evet at their worst they're still better than most:p . Although SFAFC was (by far) their weakest album yet, I stilled enjoyed it. And I think they can still put out some 'good' records, just not great ones anymore.

I'm not expecting it to be bad, but I'm not expecting it to be great either. The thing is, one of the main reasons that Reinventing Axl Rose and their earlier stuff was so great was due to the lyrics, the sort of lyrics they can't put on a major label album without being incredibly hypocritical.

They are still great live. They like to mix up their shows too.
Saw them 3 nights in a row last month and when I was talking to warren on the first night he said they were playing a different set every night. The man came through and I had the best weekend of my life.

Friday night was a good mix of mostly old stuff with new stuff. Saturday was a brilliant set list with tons of old stuff..and my favourite Walking is still honest. Sunday they had a "secret" show. it was really small and casual..and I was falling onto the stage hehe. It was a fun set too..most of the new stuff, but the other half was older stuff you wouldn't expect to hear. Tom played an awesome new song that he said he had new played in front of anyone but the band, and they closed with the disco after the breakdown.

I had plenty of time to talk with the guys in the crowd and backstage. Nicest guys. New album isn't as close to me as the old stuff but I found it really grew on me.

03-19-2006, 04:29 AM
OK, AM! WAS ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING.

Seriously, so much energy, passion and stuff from the crowd and the band, they also picked such an aweosme setlist.
I got on stage and shook toms hand too, which was cool and my mate got his plectrum. The only songs i wish they played was TSR and Jordans first choice. They were selling the Disco before the breakdown ep, but it sold out and the end of the show, so i got the live dvd instead.

Setlist: (not in proper order)

Walking is still honest
From her lips to gods ears
Reinventing Axl Rose
Unprotected Sex With Multiple Partners
Sink Florida Sink
Don't Lose Touch
Miami
Those Anarcho Punks and Mysterious
Turn those clapping hands into angry ballad fists
Rice and Bread
Problems
You look like i need a drink
Pints of guinness makes you strong
and a song i didn't recognise, maybe a new one

Encore:
Impact
We laugh at danger (and break all the rules)

Best song live was probably Those Anarcho Punks are mysterious.

 I just wrote this, I hope some of you will agree with it:

You used to write songs that meant something to me
Made me believe in punk again, gave me some hope
But that all went out the window when you repressed the Crime EP
You've moved away from the you of old and I'll have to cope

Now you're concerned with the grander scheme
You've forgotten what you said, got up and moved on
Away from the idea of a perfect underground scene
Where everybody's happy and everyone belongs

Now your fans will grow in number with every single tour
They'll spend less time on your music and more time on their hair
Will they comprehend what you used to stand for?
Oh Tom Gabel do you even ****ing care?

Do you think about your ex-ideals, may I enquire?
Now you've abandoned all your sweet anarchist rants
You blown it all to hell, you've gone and signed with Sire
Now you're labelmates with Spongebob Squarepants

Now everything you say is suspect, every single word
You can no longer make me believe, no longer make me think
All that leaves your lips is now only a turd
Falling from your mouth, straight into my drink

Just another well-oiled cog in the elite system
Any integrity you had is gone, your new message is hollow
Shaking hands with business mean when you used to resist them
Just another strained chorus, another "WHOA-OH-OH"

Singing piles of money make you rich and Baby, I'm a Capitalist
But though you've abandoned it your old message is not dead
You introduced to idea into thought-dreams and there it still exists
The place where everyone's belongs will live on in your fan's heads

Because I'll still get your records and when you play I'll still go see
But I'll remember when you gave me reason to believe
As you ride off into the horizon of money and MTV
And mark you down as one more fallen at the altar of greed

One more band that I loved, that has turned against me

I like it, especially since they abandoned their politics a long time ago. Send it to them.

Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Rest upon your laurels, glad you've found your peace but
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me

Rapping at the chapel door
Sweeping up an enemies floor
Do not touch or make a sound
Keep your eyes upon the ground

I read your countless volumes
Shunned your many sins
But I cannot find salvation
In the rattling of your tins

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Rest upon your laurels, glad you've found your peace
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me

A flag is waved, a bomb is thrown
So many names and dates to know
Books upon the books are stacked
To get something so simple back

We're talking revolution
But spirals not the spins
Where you fall down dizzy
And forget where to begin

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Suiting you, suiting you
Suiting you, suiting you

Turn your blessings into weapons
And hold them before your chest
To you and all your comrades
I only wish the best

We may not meet again
For we are treading separate trails
But I'll cast off at dinner
You won't seize the roads or rails

From chapels to the army
Magicians to the knave
You'll either blaze your own trail
Or you're diggin your own grave

I wish good to your children
And their own children too
But your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

Your armour will not fit me
Your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you
Your armour will not fit me
Your armour will not fit me
Although fine it's suiting you

So farewell, good fellows
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Farewell, good fellows
Farewell, Good Fellows your ways are not for me
Not for me

1) Leaving Plan-it-X for Fat Wreck
2) Demanding PIX stop selling Crime
3) Shutting down their forums at the first sign of criticism
SFAFC gets **** because if you listen to the lyrics, 90% of the time Tom is bitching about their fans calling them sellouts, which by that time wasn't very many people.
Then signing to Sire put the final nail in the coffin for the punk elitists to cry sellout.

I think their music has gotten worse, but it's still good. There are some great songs on SFAFC, and the music matters above all else IMO. Now, I admit that some of their decisions have been questionable, but I also think it's wrong to point fingers. I don't agree with everything they've done (like not letting PIX sell Crime), but I also don't feel I'm in the position to judge. As for the Sire signing, I once read in an interview with Tom in which he said something to the effect of 'if I could sign a contract that would set my mom up for life and she wouldn't have to worry about money again, I'd sign it in a second', That's not a direct quote, I'm paraphrasing there. Now, to me that really hit close to home. I think if there is anything that 'justifys' 'selling out', that's it. Sometimes things are more important than Punk Rock. It's sad, but it's true. I wouldn't say a lot, as there are many bands on the label who just make music about the general things you make music about, love, life, friends, etc. Some bands have a sprinkling of politics, but none are completely political.

Riot-folk on the other hand goes almost completely political, added to the fact none of them are really that good, is what makes me dislike the label.

Please tell me what happened with that band Chumbawanba? Everybody is talking about them going mainstream and then back again. I know they did tubthumping, but what happened after that?

I wouldn't say a lot, as there are many bands on the label who just make music about the general things you make music about, love, life, friends, etc. Some bands have a sprinkling of politics, but none are completely political.

Riot-folk on the other hand goes almost completely political, added to the fact none of them are really that good, is what makes me dislike the label.

Have you listened to Rainy Day Record? That album was good.

Before Tubthumpin they were an anarcho band. When they put out Tubthumpin on a major label, everyone (especially those in the anarcho scene) called out sellout. Apparently though they donated all the profits from Tubthumpin to chairty. After that album they left EMI and went back singing about anarchy, adopting a more poppy sound, and eventually a folk sound with two of their latest albums.

I have no idea, I know it was discussed before, but I don't remember.

Something anti-Nike keeps coming to mind, but I'm not sure.

I don't think they were ever really 'anarachists' to begin with, they were just DIY punks. Only song that ever mentioned anarchy was a satire.
From the chorus of national myth
"When all I cry for is anarchy when all I plea for is to be free"
Oh and there baby I'm an anarchist. I dunno about the rest of the band but I think tom was an anarchist, he has that crass patch on his jacket, well had, not sure if its still there. Its the jacket hes wearing on the cover of cowboy. Something along the lines of "The nature of your oppression is the aesthetic of our anger."

Baby, I'm an Anarchist is satire. And wearing a crass patch doesn't make you an anarchist.

Like David Rovics - I'm A Better Anarchist Than You. That song was good.

"I don't have sex, and there will be no sequel/Because heterosexual relationships are inherently unequal/I'll just keep on moshing, to Rancid and the Clash/'Til there is no more difference between gender, race or class/All you other breeders you just haven't got a clue/I'm a better anarchist than you."

I think that Pints of Guiness is also much, much better than it is on RAR.

But the song Reinventing Axl Rose is better on the album than the EP.

I completley disagree. I think the Acoustic version of 'Pints...' is waaaaaaay worse than the RAR version. The energy just isn't there, and there is not as stong of a melody.

And I like both version of 'Reinventing' equally, they are both great but in different ways.
