Against Me! was a fad.
In SHARP contrast, the new Meat Puppets album is really ****ing good. Lets see, they've been making killer records since the 80's in a similar vein as Against Me, but are way more creative and interesting than they could ever be. It was hilarious when the regs in here went crazy over them and then sold out like I knew they would.

This album is almost decent if you listen to it at 1.5 speed.
The music doesn't flow like it used too. The choruses seem out of place, and the verses sound kind of choppy, short, and unfinished.
Stop is pretty much a garbage song any way you look at it. It's more repetitive than We Laugh at Danger, and not nearly as good.
Anyone know who's in Borne on the FM Waves?

Tegan Quin from Tegan and Sara.
Their video for White People For Peace is available on their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/againstme
I don't get it.
The two sides represent warring factions. They are portrayed as sports teams playing in a stadium to show that media interest in the war is basically used as entertainment for people ,and that interests in it dont go much beyond death tolls (thus the little sports counter thing in one shot). The cheerleaders represent blind patriotism cheering on war without really questioning the violence or reasons behind it. The cheerleaders bloody mouth even goes one step further to show that they actually ENJOY the violence and are cheering for more. The fat guy is a corporate nationalist who dictates the war to the soldiers in order for his own monetary profit. The weird acoustic guitar playing guy represents the individual who is against the war. He cant do anything (he is trapped in a dirty bathroom with a guitar) and is forced to watch it go on. He plays and screams as loud as he can, but the war just keeps going. He is trapped for good.
Oh, and for those that didn't catch it, this is Gabel:

If you haven't heard the album yet, but you liked Searching, I'll be willing to bet that you will enjoy New Wave. I do disagree with you about White People being terrible live though, I rather enjoyed it.
When it comes to live versions, I think Borne on the FM waves is better live, with James singing Tegans part. Oh, and if you're going by that guys review, ignore what he says about the song "Stop". I'm a huge AM! fan, and I have to say that Stop is my least favourite song. Which is saying a lot, considering the fact that before, I didn't have a least favourite AM! song.
Overall, I'd probably give the album a 7.5/10. It would have been an 8/10 if they released Up The Cuts as the acoustic version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_ycPql-GIk
I do like up the cuts better acoustic.

The album's pretty decent. It's not like old Against Me!. As far as I can tell, nothing they produce anymore will be. A lot of people aren't going to like that. If they keep making music that's pretty cool, I'll listen to it. When it gets downright awful, I'll put on older albums. The biggest thing I can't understand is people disowning the band. Just because the last two albums have been drastically different, it doesn't mean every single recording before that wasn't awesome.
For me it's kind of right now I'm burned out on old Against Me! and just not interested in the new stuff. So temporarily, I'm not really listening to them.

Ordered New Wave yesterday to get the 7", which I imagine will be difficult to get ahold of otherwise. After listening to the album a couple times, it really isn't that bad. Obviously, compared to RAR or w/e, it's nothing, but it's an okay record.

In October of 05, I think, I saw them at a smallish venue but I only knew like 9 songs by them, only what they had for download on their site, so I didn't really get into it. When they toured with Alkaline Trio (last April, I think it was) they played this smallish (but still kinda big venue) and I stood out in the rain for 2-3 hours only to learn it's sold out. Have since taken to buying tickets in advance if I really need to be at a show. Then they came to a super small venue in April and I couldn't go cos I was in France. Seriously considered skipping France for it.

don't make fun, but i made my family postpone our trip to florida by a week like two years ago so i could go to warped. I like the chorus, I just don't like choruses in general. After actually reading the lyrics to that song, it fits. The main reason I can't get into against me!'s stuff from the last two albums is they just seem to follow the usual format when before they did not so often.

the dvd on new wave i dont really like, because theres not enough audience. half of an against me! show is audience singing.

i heard 'don't lose touch' today on the edge (for those of you in southern ontario) thats. they mentioned the new album when it came out, but i haven't heard anything from it yet on the radio. i did buy it first day but haven't really listened to it much since i got the leaked and bought two better albums the same day.
Really? They played AM! on The Edge?

Well there are 3 singles from New Wave, White People, Stop! and Thrash Unreal. So I guess they're just releasing all of them at the same time pretty much? I know that they're working on a video for Stop! right now.

I always liked Ya'll Don't Wanna Step To Dis, and What We Worked For.
But Impact is by far my favorite song by them.
I think the new album is different, but only in sound.
They sound like they have their heart in this album, just like they did in SFAFC, ATEC, RAR, and Crime.
There sound has never been the exact same on every album, if you look closely the difference between each album isn't large, but when you compare SFAC to Crime, you can see the difference easily, they've progressed their sound each album.
As an actual anarchist, I haven't seen them "sell out".
Signing to a major label has nothing to do with selling out, it's when you start placing ads for all sorts of companies on their web page, or on their tours, that is selling out.
And until I see them start endorsing products, they haven't sold out.
Maybe they're singing about different problems now, but it's still Against Me!.

1. The new songs will never mean the same to me as many of the old ones have.

So I was just reading a pretty old interview with warren, from a little while before SFAFC came out.
Bobby: If you could pick one person or band, dead or alive to tour with, who would you pick to tour with and why?
Warren: I… Man, I think I’d really love to tour with The Replacements. Apparently they were a very inconsistent and volatile live band, but I don’t know, it seems just like there was a real energy to them at a certain time. It would be really awesome to be able to tap into that and witness it. Looking back at any band, you can kind of see, in retrospect, when was really their prime, you know? Like when was the time for like Guns N’ Roses, right at a certain point like ’88 or whatever; right before they had to start playing arenas, they were still playing clubs and there was this energy there. That would be an amazing time to see them play. Or getting to see the Replacements in the early ‘80s or getting to see The Clash when they were touring around the UK. Like there are these prime times where if you catch the band at that certain point, there’s that electricity there. It’s a tough call to make between them, those are a few.
I just thought it was kind of funny and ironic, him talking about that, right at the end of that phase for them.

Gabel sounds like a monumental prick now.
I thought non-violence was supposed to be an anarchist belief, or is Gabel no longer an anarchist.

You are a complete moron. Did you even read the article? BTW I am Michael Hurley. Those are my statements and I was there first hand. Tom's action were completely out of line. What was written is exactly what happened. Both Smith and I paid him no attention till he ripped down the article. Smith did not even realize who Tom was at that moment. We have been patrons to the cafe for quite some time now. If anyone else were to come in and had started ripping down articles on the bulletin board he would of said the same thing. He commited battery which is a punishable crime. No one has any right to do what Tom did.

I never saw the graffeti on the article. The cafe is called All Saints. Alot of punk/DIY/college students/scensters/ and so on hang out there alot. There is graffeti and writings all over the walls. Most articles on the bulletin board get written on at some point. As for Tom being sober, I have no idea. You are still responsible for your actions no matter what state of mind you might be in. I was at the counter next to Smith doing design work on my mac and was not paying much attention until Tom started argueing with Smith.

I heard in an interview somewhere either Tom or Warren saying somehting to the effect of "this isn't going to last forever, so we just want to experience as much as we possibly can while it lasts" Which, to me, is enough of a reason to sign to a major label.
Henrik

Though it isn't a good reason to start making shitty music.
That video is the first time I've heard Against Me! them selves actually talking about their choice about changing to a major label and defend it. Usually they kind of ignore the subject as for what I have heard.
Anyways, that crowd sounds awful! 16 year old girls all of them.

Like someone else on here once said: Imagine if they went on stage for some huge award show and then suddenly just announced that they still were anarchists and starting playing one of the old songs like Baby I'm An Anarchist, Impact etc. Then they would give all the money they earned to some awesome benefit and everything would be great again :p

I just saw Against Me! last night and it was an awesome show. I came home covered in sweat from singing and moshing with everyone. The best part was the encore when they played Baby I'm an Anarchist and We Laugh at Danger and Break All the Rules and everyone went crazy and sang every word. It was probably the best concert I've ever been to.

Started with Pints of Guiness, lots of stuff off New Wave, Cliche Guevara, Those Anarcho Punks are mysterious, Reinventing Axl Rose, Walking is Still Honest, that's all I can remember. I was disappointed they didn't play Cavalier Eternal.

Theres at least one new acoustic song though. The released the song "You Must Be Willing" on the Thrash Unreal single.

You Must Be Willing isn't really acoustic. It kicks in at the end. I remember thinking it would be better if they left it completely acoustic.
EDIT: Or is it in every chorus? I don't remember. Haven't listened to the song since I got the 7", which was like a month ago.
