My only complaint about the changes made lately in Sputnikland are that the reveiws don't show anymore how many times a reveiw has been veiwed. I know that it isn't a big deal and I'm probably the only one who cares, but it was nice to look at when I read a reveiw. :upset:

I agree with the 'viewing' thing. You're not alone, Kripes. I found the 'view' feature to be interesting and fun to look at, even if it isn't necessarily the most useful tool.
To Kripes: You are a bass player. You are cool.

I've got a pretty cool and usefull idea.
How about there is a report bad post link on sputnik and it would take you to the bad users/bad reviews forum along with the post in a quote box and then the person can explain why it's bad and why the user should be warned/banned. It would make things easier when people are trying to report a person for spamming or other crap.
Damrod
10-14-2005, 08:50 PM
Not a bad idea, but we kick the bad user thread regulary. That would have to go. The thread would grow immensly. I would not mind an email though.
Shadows
10-14-2005, 10:07 PM
I think it's a good idea, but it shouldn't go here. If we made a "Report Bad Post" thread and had and links on sputnik to post a quote and an explanation, that would be very useful.

OK guys, since everyone can log on now, I closed the other thread. If anyone finds any changes on sputnik as a result of the update (i.e things not working right), then post them here, and we'll let mx know. So far we have the following.
1. Vbulletin tags aren't working.
2. Avatars aren't changing.
Those are the user-related ones, so if there's anything else, then let us know.
I've got something.
When I click on next on the new reviews part to go to more of the latest reviews it just goes to the same page with the same reviews.

I like how now that Location is placed with every post people's pretentious locations are revealed. Hahahha. Anyways, I'm confused in general about my sputnik postcount versus my normal musicianforums one. Also, maybe you could have join date on the sputnik posts? That'll automatically make sputnik look much older and well-established than it already is. You can use the cred of mx to produce more sputnik cred as a solitary site.

Quick question for the sputnik mods:
Once I'm unbanned this Wednesday, I was wondering if I could have special permission to post a review. The album (Arsis - A Diamond for Disease) doesn't technically come out in stores until the 25th, but Willowtip Records is already shipping out copies to people who ordered online. In other words, the official thing is out, just not in stores.
So, since I can obviously be sure that I'm reviewing the real thing, can I post it this week (I've already written it), or do I still have to wait until th 25th?

We need a post-hardcore subsection of punk. There's a post-rock one and far fewer bands fit in that category.
Proof:
Thrice got moved to Progressive
Trophy Scars got moved to Indie
alexisonfire is still in Metalcore

I don't think it's necessary. I don't think there's many bands who'd actually fit it.

Hm, other bands from the top of my head that could be sorted into post-hardcore:

Thursday (in a way)
There would be enough to fit in I think.

Storm In A Teacup

DFelon204409

one for sure is that you need to get ATDI out of Post-Punk
Actually post-punk is a really fitting way to describe them and bands like Bear vs. Shark excepting the fact that post-punk has evolved in its own way. Post-punk was originally a "post-" version of 80s punk, which explains the sound of Mission of Burma and other bands. This different breed of "post-punk" bands that exist today incorporate the ideas of 90s melodic punk into their music. Also, some bands like ATDI are just really original and find their way into multiple genres, post-punk being the most fitting since they have little hardcore in their music, however, I do feel like their kindred spirits are post-hardcore and probably would belong in the post-hardcore genre.
Damrod, even if there aren't enough reviews now (even though Fall of Troy, ATDI, Trophy Scars, Thursday, Thrice, Sparta, and alexisonfire merit the inclusion and seem plenty) I and others will be writing more reviews in the future. By not updating now, all we're going to do is cause more genre problems when more reviews accumulate in the future.

Why does somebody keep rejecting this review:
Sleep Terror - Paraphile
Probe-a-phile?
Yes, this review leaves the listener with the distinct impression that the musicians involved are heartily appreciative of some good ol' anal penetration.
It's technical death metal mixed with jazz. It's completely unmemorable and featureless technicality mixed with utterly futile jazz breaks. It's ****ing pointless. Having listened to this several times, I can not remember one single riff, one single interlude, nothing. It's in one ear and out the other. The tech death parts are boring and indistinguishable. The jazz parts are completely unnecessary.
Most people cum over this for "mixing death and jazz", as if it were some new idea. Guess what, dumbass? Atheist, Cynic, and Pestilence did that in the early 90's. Furthermore, whereas those bands actually attempted to integrate the two styles, Sleep Terror just slap them together haphazardly. You'll be falling asleep during some part, and then right in the middle of a riff (or perhaps the beginning or end, I can't tell) they'll suddenly break out and go into some lounge jazz. It's clear that they're trying to be "random" and "creative" and "unique", but they're really none of these, and it shows. It is not "creative" to randomly mix samples of two different genres. Any dumbass with a computer and a mixing program can do that. The people that appreciate this are probably the same imbeciles who think shouting meaningless, unrelated words for no reason at all makes them "random" and "funny" and "wacky".
Basically, the band sounds like Opeth, except with technical death metal and jazz instead of whatever-the-**** Opeth do and acoustic ****. If that interests you, then please feed your simple-minded, easily impressed ignorance by obtaining this release. Basically, the guys in the band are probably sitting back now, laughing at everybody for buying this piece of **** that they cobbled together from an easy-listening jazz station and the latest Deeds of Flesh release within 15 minutes.
If you're looking for something that pretends to be new and progressive, but is accessible and easy to show all your friends so you can have cool parties with wicked awesome death/jazz music in between your 50 cent songs, get this. If you want something truly progressive, steer clear.
0.5 stars for technical prowess on the guitars. The drummer sounds suspiciously like a drum machine, so no points there.
Looks good to me.

Being cocky about it isn't going to get you anywhere. Writing a negative review is one thing, but relentlessly flaming a band/album with a lot of swearing like you did is no different than writing a completely kiss-*** review. If you don't like it, at least write coherent and descriptive thoughts about it, don't just write a bunch of paragraphs on how it's nothing but pure ****.
