I dont know how many hockey players are out there, but i've now been playing hockey for 8 years now, and i can't get over how expensive hockey sticks are getting. Now there are some sticks out there that are $100 that are better then some that are $200 **cough** new reebox **cough**. The worst one was the TPS response, it wears down so easily and quickly, dont get me wrong, its a great stick just definately not worth the money. So i was just wondering, what hockey stick are you using, and was it worth how much you paid for it??

I've been running through them quickly and Im looking for something new. I know, it MAY also be a personal comfort thing, but just to say which ones you think are more superior then others would be fine. I bought the mission M1 today, and just a warning, dont get this stick, it snapped within 7 games.

I used to use a Bauer Vapor V, Hossa, bought it in october, still works good($80). I currently use, yes like u said a TPS Response Rubber, got it in March or April 2 for $150, Tkachuk and M9 blades, havent broken. I want to get a Synergy, but not as much as I used to.

One company, Bauer. If you want a composite that won't wear, buy the Endure. Basicly the entire stick is a shock absorber, so it can take abuse, I like the 30 (XXX) also. I hate Easton, its very light but they break way too easily. The CCM Vector can't be fixed after it breaks. I don't trust Reebok in hockey, so I wouldn't buy their sticks. I personally like TPS, I just the the Response Plus, It's not much different then the original response, and the XN-10 is very light.

And since I got some good money my stick collection is

1. Bauer Endure stiff flex Lindros blade
2. Bauer 30 regular flex lindros blade
3. TPS Response Plus stiff flex, Nash blade
4. Easton Synergy regular flex, Lidstrom blade. (I was focred to buy it because I just broke my CCM, and I wanted a stick that I would use for 2 more games then the Tournement (4 Games). So it was the cheapest stick at the shop because they were coming out with the new models. So I got it and completely hated it.)

The Easton Stealth is lighter. And the TPS XN-10 might be also.

ah, but the stealth needs a special blade, does it not? or am i thinking of something else. It's late so dont be too hard on me if im wrong here.

Well, the Stealth is a one piece so you don't put blades in it.

Me, I use the Easton Synergy Si-Core (the orange one) with the Shanahan curve (I wanted Iginla) and it is an 85 flex. I have six of them right now since there was an awesome deal at SportChek where they cost $130 instead of the usual $300.

Okay my favorite hockey topic! Sticks!

My current legal sticks are Sher-Wood Momentums with the Crosby curve...I love these sticks, they're great.

In the OHL we got free sticks -- Easton Synergy's...the only one I could STAND were the Sakic Pro Curves (different than the ones in stores). The Synergy can go to hell. My short short training camp stint with the Austin IceBats -- CCM Vectors. Eh, not bad with a Thornton Pro curve I suppose. In the OPJAHL and NAHL I used the Sher-Wood PMP X 9950 Coffey curve (bent to be illegal), and these sticks are by alot my favorites out there, and I reccommend them to anyone who plays defense. They're only like 44 bucks, and just a fantastic stick all around. If I could find any of those anywhere near me I'd go back to them in a heartbeat after breaking one too many Momentums lately. I've used most of the sticks listed above and that's my .02 right there.

I don't trust Reebok in hockey
They bought CCM, so reebok basically is CCM under another name. Like Nike and bauer.

But on sticks, I loove to death wood sticks. All the one pieces I have tried just feel clunky to me. My faves are the Louisville ultra lite, the Easton Z-carbon (but they have to be 2 years old, the new ones I dont like) and the CCM vector-40 or vector something or other.

I broke a stick tonight...I hate is because they're too **** expensive and I break alot. No more than any serious hockey player but still, it's too **** many. Made me even madder that I got slashed twice in a row, opening up my arm and then breaking my stick with #2...I tell ya...I lost it.

Well..be like me and buy those cheaper sticks. Unless you're playing ice hockey. Those cheaper sticks aren't really that heavy, cost up to bout 20 dollars and when I wasn't in my "take the hardest slapshot you can against the paved cement floor" phase, it lasted me..7 months.

Haha I'm just bitter cause I used to play high level hockey with free equipment and now I'm washed up with a bad knee and have to pay for my sticks now...Just ignore me when I get cranky and bitter, I suppose. Everyone here has had to put up with it for the last few months, so by the way, welcome to being a regular in the hockey threads.

Haha I'm a Blackhawks fan but I'm a big Dion Phaneuf fan, I've had the chance to play with him a couple of times, and he's a great guy and a fantastic player. I like Iginla alot too.

And as for the smaller stick makers -- I try to stick to Sher-Wood seeing as they're still independantly owned (I think) and have always made the best product as far as I'm concerned. They make the ONLY wood sticks with any good pop anymore.

Yay! my 10 dollar sticks are Sher-wood haha.

Go Flames Go..

oh and that Nike stick with Mario's name on it is a GREAT stick. I think 15-20 dollars Canadian. I've gotten the hardest shot out of that stick by far. Durability..well I got angry and broke it on a shopping cart that was near my house after a friend had made an amazing save on me.

Uh, I hate you for having the chance to play with pheneuf?!

CCM Vector the old one. I use it with stiff flex I hate sticks with a lot of flex. I got mine for 100 but I'm seeing them now around 200. Are you using a senior?? Because they'll break if your not.

Fish

once you use a stick with stiff flex, it will take a while to adjust to one with lots of flew. Has anyone here tried the hesphler 9009? It was about $45 and it had the most flew in a stick i've every tried in my entire life. When it broke (after the 4th game) i had to use my back-up which was an Easton Grip at the time i think, and i couldnt handle the puck at all because it was so much more stiff.

Then I must be crazy, because I love CCM as a company, my favorite company. But I won't buy their sticks anymore after my experience with the Vector, when I found out that it's impossible to put a new blade in after it breaks. CCM is my favorite skate company though. If Reebok bought CCM, that dosen't mean that Reebok makes their equipment, it just means that CCM is just a division of Reebok, right?

What they're doing, and they hope to have this done by sometime next year, is have CCM make the lower end stuff, and have RBK markings on the higher end equipment. They're not done with this yet seeing as how you can still buy **** good CCM stuff and at times RBK's stuff is shoddy. The RBK helmets are pretty sweet, tho.

I just bought the CCM Pro Tacks. Those things are amazing. They are so light, and they have the clip on it that keeps the laces tight, so the won't loosen up under the clip, during the game. The footbed if really comfortable. A lot of ankle support, and there is a lot of protection on the skate. The only thing I don't like about it is it's a little stiff, but not bad. I'd definetly recommend it. By the way, I'm a defenceman, so I don't know how any of this equipment is for a forward.

Pro Tacks are fantastic skates from what I hear...I have really really wide feet, all I've found that fit me are older Nikes (If I can find new boots) or Eastons that I've been using lately.

Fish
08-25-2005, 04:09 PM
Yeah, if you have wide feet or need a little extra ankle support, go with the CCM tacks, most versions of them should do the trick, but careful because some can get pretty pricey, even into the $300 range.

Ha, I don't play with a stick that costs more than $50. I just use a Sherwood 5030 with a Coffee(sp?) curve. It works fine. It lasts me about a month, and I have 2 games and a practise every week. I'm never going to buy a stick that's over $50 unless it's like $75 marked down from $200, but that will never happen.

The new missions weren't very good, IMO, the vector is a nice stick but some can get pretty expensive. I still recomend the Sher-wood Momentum, find a curve that you like for it though, I dont remember which curve I had.

If you can't find any curves you like then try a 2-piece stick. Sometimes replacing blades can be a pain though, it depends on what make you get.

I'd still recommend the Bauer Endure, the name says it all. Endure, it takes abuse. The blade has shock absorber on the blade into the shaft, then there is more shock absorber going up to about half way up the shaft. The stick is definetly not the lightest. The stick has the Stick 'Em on it. I personally like the stiff flex on it, and I wasn't able to get a defence plade on it, so I got a Lindros Blade.

What color is it? The blue is Crosby, the Green is coffey, and the black is Spezza.

Even better on 2 pieces -- you can customize the curve if you like to, and have the motivation.

*shrug* never had a relibility problem with mine, love those things.

Some jerk at rat hockey tried to toss me out today for playing open faced...that was a pleasant arguement to say the least. 1) I'm well over 18 and 2) I play hockey well. It's not like I'm some hack who can't skate at all. I used that as an opportunnity to take off my helmet for the warmups, which just made him even more mad (if you're over 18, technically you're allowed to warmup helmetless if you want to as long as you're above midgets.) Any one else get any sass about facial protection or lack thereof?

I don't see why you really need a helmet during warmup, unless you are a goalie. It's not like your own teammates are going to charge you and paste you onto the floor, then throwing you head first into the ground.

Once again, I play street with my friends so no one cares if I wear a helmet or not :)

It's really hard to find good wood to make sticks out of these days -- they used it all up and didnt plant new trees, so it's hard to find good wood sticks with pop in them. Mcinnis switched to a composite a few years ago. I'm not sure about Aucoin, I'll let you know October 5th!

Very few -- less than 5% of NHLers still use wood sticks. The wood simply isn't good enough now to mass produce high quality wood sticks for use by players of that caliber. Northland, Victoriaville, and Christian have all gone the way of the dodo, due to the consistency of composites, and their poor reseeding of trees that they used for sticks. Without the same good wood it became alot harder to replicate the same flex and amount of pop in every stick.

I had a chance to tlak to Joe Corvo of the LA Kings at my morning skate and he seemed to be pretty much in agreeance with the above, saying he hadn't used a wood stick since he was about 12. He mentioned that Al McInnis had switched back to wood after using composite for part of 03-04, wasn't sure about Aucoin, and said that Brian Sipotz (Atlanta) still uses wood as well. He said that he hasn't seen a forward use wood in the NHL since he's been there -- all the users of wood are blueliners.

I too was disappointed with the Coffey curve on the Momentums. As someone who played defense for many years, I lived and died (when I couldnt have one) on the Coffey curve pattern. It's nowhere near the 9950 or 5030 in terms of quality. The Crosby curve is just great. Sharp looking stick and not too badly priced.

Al Iafrate recorded the hardest shot ever, I believe 107 in, again I believe, in 1992. Sami Salo, of the Canucks, broke 100 in their skills comp last season.

His team gets sticks he doesn't like, and because of NCAA rules, they can't pay for his sticks if they're not the ones they're contracted for (Easton I think). Sucks to be rich and good at hockey, eh?

Easton Synergy, that silver one. Its too light, I personally couldn't get a feel for it, and hated the stick completely. 0/10

TPS Response Plus- Seems like many of you don't like TPS, I like TPS. The stick's feel isn't much different then the original Response, a little lighter. I liked the stick. 8-10

Bauer Endure- The stick is heavier then all the rest of the composites. The stick was made to take abuse. There are shock absorbers going half way up the shaft, and on the top of the heel where it connects to the shaft.I cant stand the Maximum Stick Um on it though. I like the stiff flex, it helped my shot a little bit. It's more accurate but not as hard, and lower. 10/10

0/10?!?!? thats harsh, you could have atleast given it a 2

TPS Response - What can i say, the wear on this stick is terrible, it looked like ive had it for a year after about 3 games. The price when it came out was about $250. It has a decent flex but is very light, probably not good for defensemen or centres. Since im a left winger it treated pretty well, but wasn't worth the money. 8/10

I'm very bias about Easton sticks, that could have been the reason for it. The stick is known break like crazy.

CCM Vector V120- Last years model, it was a really good stick. I liked the stick a lot, good flex, good weight. Very good defenceman stick. But you can't put a replacment blade in if it breaks. Rating 7/10

Fish

KOHO revolution - This is a more affordable stick. Has a decent flex and weight. For the price its a really good stick, probably better for centres because it provides lots of power at the face-off (thats what i found). The accuracy is decent, but nothing compared to the higher priced sticks. Rating: 7.7/10

I use a Koho 590, Roy model. I also like the CCM (Heaton) sticks, Brodeur and Kolzig models. I've also experimented with Louisville and Itech sticks, neither of which did I like much......in case you cant tell from the names, I'm a goalie. The CCM's are the most expensive, about $70 Canadian, and they are definietely worth it. I think the Koho's are just about the same price.

In the rare instances I skate as a forward, I use a wooden Sher-Wood, 130 flex, Borque model. Nothing special, but I only play forward once in a blue moon. I think the stick cost like $18. Its a nice stick for that much....a little on the heavy side, but it's a defenseman's stick, so ya.

Defenceman sticks have a squared off blade so its easier to dig the puck out of the corner. A forward blade is rounded because they don't have to worry about digging it out of the corner.

Yes, all of my sticks are up to my nose (at least) on skates, I love having a longer stick because I pokecheck a lot. And it saves you if you get caught out of position. It definetly saved a few goals last year. My coaches told me to get it cut, i refused. The goalie also overheard the conversation and told the coach to let me keep the stick the way it is.

Seriously though, having all 5 cars in the chase could be suicide. Instead of racing like a team they're gonna race aggressive. And by no means are the Labonte's bad drivers. Johnson has a good shot also. With Gordon not in it, he's got a good racing partner.

oo, i see, my hockey starts on saturday and i still havent gotten my sher-wood momentum. :(

Just a heads up, Sher-Wood is going to/has discontinued the model...they'll be around for a another few years but are gonna be harder and harder to find. They're putting all their weight behind the R7 - the completely composite Momentum replacement.

100% behind you on that one. Thought the feel was awful. I've only had a good experience with one CCM stick, so maybe I'm a little biased.

i like CCM skates though because they have really good ankle support, or so i find.

good so we're all in the same boat, CCM isn't the best stick company.

No but I use there skates and pants.

Helmet- Bauer 5000
Chest- Easton Synergy 900
Elbow- Reebok 8K
Gloves- Jofa something, its the top of the line, or second down, i can't remember
Pants- Bauer 8000
Shin- Easton Synergy 900
Skates- CCM Pro Tacks (Amazing skates)
Sticks- Bauer Vapor 30, Bauer Endure, TPS Response Plus

And we got destroyed again, I'm not even putting the score down. Whatever. And I play defence, but I know it's not our fault, we do our job but the forwards can't get the puck deep, they seriously got 3 shots a period. And the center never gets back,When there are 3 guys cycling, and a defenceman pinching, you can't depend on 2 guys to carry the load. Its a good feeling when the coach gets pissed at the other team's lack of class and tells you to go out there and "make wallpaper" :thumb: . He told me to do whatever, as long as you show them to respect us. I asked him if I should play out of position, he said of course.

Yeah, oh well, the games don't mean anything right now. They're not league games. I want to win, obviously, but the coach was pretty pleased with the way we played. We kept intensity throughout the game, and we came out hard. But they had a full team, we had 2 lines. So we got really tired and lost a lot of goals in that last period.

i remember one game we only had 7 guys on the bench for a whole period because everyone was either hurt or kicked out.

We had 5 guys on the bench the entire game. And we were playing Brooklyn, which has much more people then Clarkstown. We did score though, the cheapest goal you'll ever see, my D partner for that shift just put the puck up and it got deflected by the other team. The goalie was on the other side of the net. This team definetly will turn around though. We were completely outmatched, but we played much better then the other games. We just need more offence, and to be able to get the puck past their blue line.

I did like the Thornton Pro Curve on the Vector, and I use a 3.5 lie...so not exactly a stick from the pro shop, but hey they weren't bad.

Equipment --

Helmet -- CCM Tacks 852.
OHL and CHL -- wore ITECH Pro Straight Cut visor. (both leagues use the new RBK helmets and different visors now (All players have have to wear a visor in both leagues.) Ditched that, but I do keep an ITECH Pro Wave mirrored sheild just in case I need to look cool.

Shoulder pads -- Easton Synergy 900 now. Remember in the Mighty Ducks 2 when they change uniforms in the locker room and all the players are wearing bright orange shoulder pads? I wore those FOREVER until they fell apart a year or so ago. Best shoulder pads ever.

Elbow -- Jofa something or another
Shins -- CCMs
Skates -- Older Nike boots, can't remember the model, with T-Blades installed.
Gloves -- Bauer Vapors...the original Vapors, I think they're V's.
Sticks -- Sher-Wood Momentum Crosby or Sher-Wood PMPX 9950 Coffey with a nice bend in there.

All our outerwear in both leagues was CCM...the pants I wear are whatever model they gave me in Plymouth -- dark blue.

ive never really been in a "big" fight before in a game. Usually only when its like all the guys on the ice around the net pushing each other around, ive never gone one on one at centre or something :upset:

Yeah, I don't play that way, but there was a game where my coach sat me for a few minutes because I was talking with a guy on the other team after a game and started a huge fight (for Bantam standards). I skated away and someone clocked him. But it wouldn't have started if he didn't call me a bitch and I didn't call him a fag.

It's weird how when teams have the same name as an NHL team they steal the colours and logo, like my team are the Stars, and we have the green gold and black jerseys and the same little star design on the bottom half of the jersey. Why cant small towns just make up their own names!!?

My club growing up was a little original -- Downers Grove Huskies.

Yeah, we have the exact same uniforms as the Caps, just it says Clarkstown Capitals inside the Eagle, and the black jerseys have an eagle instead of the Capitol Building. When we played the Brooklyn Stars the jerseys were orange and black. Bayonne Rangers had the same colors but the jerseys were different. The other teams in my region are the Pearl River Pirates, Bear Mountain Bears (now thats original), and the Ramapo Saints (Don't ask me to explain this one, I have no idea).
